Chapter 2: Ch 2: Transmigration for dummies

Transmigration.

As a concept, it is very similar to 'reincarnation' or 'transported' type light novels that focus on the idea of a person from their world being moved to another one. The main difference between these is the 'method' in which one is being packaged and emailed to another world.

Miyagi was transmigrated, he was in his old world and somehow ended in this parallel one in someone else's body. Apparently, he suffered a heatstroke and ended up transmigrating to an alternate version of earth, specifically, japan in the late 80s.

"I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS..."

He said, thanks to him having the memories of the previous owner he quickly assessed his situation to see how fucked he was, the novels have taught him that this type of situation wasn't always ideal.

Recently he had broken up with his girlfriend, he looked about the same if only a bit more handsome, had several problems involving alcohol and some minor drugs which made him also pass out. But most importantly, he was a rich kid with both of his parents alive, it just happened that they were on a long trip around the world.

"...I'll accept my fate humbly"

He also said the situation wasn't at all bad! it was even very good!

He was rich, his parents were still alive, the personality was decently similar, and this body wasn't completely fucked over aesthetically or physically, the emotional department could use some therapy, but who isn't even a little mentally ill?

He was going to enjoy this life! if this is a dream or him being in a coma then whatever, he wasn't a guy to think too deeply about existential problems over the nature of this so-called transmigration. The universe is a bit too big to call something like that impossible.

The times in which he was reincarnated were not good ones, they were definitely better times but since he was already in a good position he could just not get a job for at least 5 years before his parents would nag him about it.

Miyagi Motohashi, the previous owner of this body, was already in a spiraling depression so him 'continuing' that trend by grabbing a few novels, seeing some movies, and playing video games should be fine right?

He already had novels covered, next was seeing movies, he just needed to buy a subscription on some streaming platform and start watching, he already made some research in his memories so he understood that this was a parallel world to earth, so maybe ht thing here would be... Wait.

This IS 1987, so there is no streaming platform, to begin with! he needs to actually get up and go to a movie whether if he wants to see a movie!

What a hassle.

Time to apply the ol' reliable, say it is what it is, and move on to bigger things such as video games! now, this should be easy, maybe he can make some games since it is 30 years since he died. It should still be pretty hard since he understood that this world was apparently 10 years ahead of its time in terms of technology.

So although it was 1987 the technology was closer to 1998 in his previous earth. 

So there must be some good...

"Where the games at?"

Indeed, although the technologies were indeed 0 years ahead of their time, videogames had not made a mainstream appearance yet, there were simply no games anywhere in the world.

"I see... This must be punishment for my crimes"

Miyagi did steal a balloon on free balloon day.

"Well guess I gotta do what I gotta do"

It was a monumental task, but he could try and bring video games to this world, the technology was here, and since the world was very similar the market for gamers should be completely untapped!

So Miyagi decided to study his college on things related to programming and computer science, with that and his knowledge from the previous world he could recreate video games, but there were a few problems.

Miyagi understood that video games shined on consoles and arcades first before computers, the PC market is plausible but he definitely would rather make consoles first before trying anything on computers. Technology was more advance here, but everything else was still on about the same level as his previous world in 1987.

Next, he researched video games in this world, just like in his previous world there were video games created about 10 years before but they never were more than 5 machines created. Simply put, the idea was invented but no one had tried anything interesting with it, so he should be a pioneer in it.

Finally, he decided to simply make a console once he finished his Major and sell it, make a business out of it and maybe become something akin to the 'grandfather' of video games in this world.

"Should not be too difficult to do, give a system!"

Silence.

"Uh... a golden finger like those Chinese novels?"

Deafening silence.

Even after multiple weird attempts at awakening some sort of cheat, he received nothing but embarrassment for himself, so he decided to simply make the console, should not be difficult right?

Wrong

 

To begin with, programming and making an electrical circuit where a motherboard could be put was not a skill that overlapped, so even if he studied plenty of electrical and electronic engineering he just COULDN'T do it because he was clumsy.

So after confirming with his parents what he wanted to do, he decided to hire someone who could actually help him make the console, in this case, he just happened to come close to Matsuki Aki and hired her on the spot, she seemed desperate enough to actually work in his house since he didn't even have an office to make console in.

And so with some electronic scraps, a wild idea, two people with knowledge of electronic engineering, and enough elbow grease they had completed the final product that would be the first video game console.

Matsuki was desperate, you looked at the definition in the dictionary and a picture of her working over time would be printed there! she really wanted to do a good job and most of all, not be jobless

What a work ethic!

And so we come back to the present time.

 

"You want me to do WHAT?" 

Matsuki asked again, she definitely knew that her ears were not working well since she thought that he had asked to-

"I want to wear a suit, like those costumes from-"

"I'M NOT DOING THAT"

Matsuki was grinding her teeth while seething at the smiling Miyagi who was holding a costume of Bowser. Just who the hell does this guy think he is? she is a BONAFIDE electrical engineer and has enough muscle to break him like a KitKat.

He has the audacity to ask her to wear a costume?

"NOW LISTEN HERE YOU LITTLE SHI-"

"...another 5,000 yen per hour"

"SHINNING STAR! of course, this will not be a problem for me!"

Matsuki immediately took the costume out of Miyagi's hands, she wanted to wear it immediately but she realized something weird while looking at it.

It was really well made!

"Where did you get these from?"

There were 2 costumes, Miyagi's made him look like an idiot plumber with his blue overalls and red cap, their quality was not cheap and they seemed to be made to last for some reason.

"I had them specially tailored for us to use, they're essential for our second step into revolutionizing the current market!!"

"I still don't see why you say tha- WAIT when did you take my measurements?"

Miyagi ignored her last question while explaining his plan to her, first, he said why video games were good for the 45th consecutive time and then he proceeded to tell her the actual plan.

"Nobody is going to buy something like this stuff if we don't have some consumers, so we need to get publicity out!"

Miyagi said as he pointed at the costumes, his deep smile made Matsuki's eye widen in the realization of what he was going to do, and she was getting hiped to do it.

"You are going to buy some ads?"

She always wanted to be in a commercial! it would be so cool even if she is in a costume it would be enough to realize her maiden dreams! This job really is something very goo-

"NO, I'm quite rich but I'm not bottomless... yet, so we are going to do something a bit more personal"

Matsuki's delusion was quickly shut down like a blockbuster after Netflix, Miyagi was quite ruthless in it but the yen was worth it, at least it was something dumb like-

"We are going to directly advertise ourselves!"

GOD DAMMIT.
