|Chapter Four - A Series of Sniffing|
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Beep. Beep. Beep.
"Hmm..." Ygor woke up from the continuous beeping coming from the side where Calvin is sleeping.
He got out of bed carefully. As soon as he stood up, he stretched out his body. He never felt his body this sore after just sleeping.
He lived in a castle and slept on a bed big enough to fit at least ten people. Calvin's bed is small and cramped for them both.
"Argh!" Calvin woke up and fished his phone under the pillow to turn off the alarm.
He saw Ygor stretching. His abs and muscles contracted and moved as he stretched. Calvin watched this and felt very insecure with his own body.
He can be considered a nerd who only studied and never worked out. He doesn't even know how to dress fashionably. Would he still think to buy clothes when he's already struggling to feed himself?
He then took his glasses and wore them. But then he regretted it because now, he can see Ygor's abs in full 4k HD.
"Hmm? Why aren't you moving?" Ygor asked.
Calvin looked away and stood up to get his towel. "I'm going to wash up." He said.
He headed towards the bathroom and realized a problem. He walked back to where Ygor is and smacked him in the back of his head.
"Ouch! Why?! What did I do?!" He asked and felt very wronged.
"How could I wash if there's no door?!"
Ygor looked at the bathroom with no door. "I-it's alright! I won't look!" He said.
Calvin squinted his eyes at Ygor. "We're both guys anyways." Ygor shrugged.
Calvin is very conflicted about the beautiful face that told him that. "Haaa..." He can't help but sigh.
He took an extra curtain in a cabinet and two pieces of thumbtacks since he has no nails lying around in his small apartment. He took a shoelace from his old worn-out shoes and then did his magic.
"There, this should do for now." He said.
"Wow, human you're good at this." Ygor praised him.
"Ha! Of course, I am!" He said.
"Also, it's Calvin. You better stop calling me human, if anybody heard you they will think you're crazy."
"Yeah, yeah, Calvin."
"Get used to it. Anyway, I'll go wash up now. Watch some T.V. if you want."
Calvin went to the bathroom and Ygor is left all alone. "That big box is the T.V., right? Now, where's the thing that made people show up there..."
He looked for the remote until he found it under the bed. How did it get there? No one knows. No one will ever know.
"Hmm..." He pressed the button.
"ah! There we go!" He then sat on the bed and watched.
Since it's only five in the morning, there are no dramas or movies yet. "The young artist Yoo Seo-Yeon released another single today! 'Blossoming Flowers' immediately broke records and topped multiple charts upon its release..."
The news showed a picture of Yoo Seo-Yeon, a talented young artist who is very popular nowadays.
"Huh?!" Ygor squinted his eyes at the photo.
Yoo Seo-Yeon had pink her for this new single. "Is she a fairy?"
Fairies, in Ygor's world, usually have pastel-colored hairs. Among the colors, pink is the rarest because only the royal family has this hair color.
"A princess?"
Calvin saw Ygor almost hugging the T.V. when he got out of the bathroom. "What are you doing?" He asked.
"There's a fairy!" He looked at Calvin for a split second. When he looked back, the news anchors already moved to the next topic.
"Ah! No! Where is it? The princess!" He cried.
Calvin just shook his head. "Stop that, you're gonna break the T.V.! You don't even have the money to buy a new one when that happens."
Before he could even smack Ygor, Ygor already shielded his head. "Tsk."
Calvin took three pieces of eggs from the fridge. Before cooking it, he went to grab the rice cooker and cook some rice.
"Are you cooking?" Ygor asked.
"Yeah."
"Is it like the one last night? The self-cooking food?!"
"No, and it's not self-cooking food," Calvin told him.
Ygor went to his side and watched the eggs cooking on the pan.
Sniff. Sniff.
Calvin started sniffing Ygor. "What are you doing?" Ygor asked while frowning.
"I thought there's a dead mouse." Calvin said while holding his nose.
Ygor felt annoyed. "I don't smell like a dead mouse! I smell like a dragon!"
Calvin went to the cabinet and handed him a white towel. "Yeah, a horrible smelling dragon. Pfft."
Ygor smelled himself and took the towel without saying anything. Calvin laughed at his actions. He followed Ygor to the bathroom to explain how the shower works and the soap and shampoo. Then he went back to cooking.
While he was putting the extra egg and rice in his lunchbox, Ygor finished and walked out of the bathroom half naked.
"Hey, I need clothes." He told Calvin.
Calvin looked at him, studying his body. Ygor squinted his eyes and hugged himself. "What? Why are you doing that?"
Calvin showed him a disgusted face. "Stop acting like that!"
"Then stop staring at me like that!" Ygor pointed at him.
"Hey! I was just checking if my clothes would fit you!" Calvin explained.
He took a shirt, new extra underwear, and jogging pants. He gave it to Ygor. "Do I still have to teach you about these?" He asked.
Ygor examined the clothes then he took the jogging pants. "What does this rope do?"
"That's just there to tighten the pants around your waist so it won't fall off."
Ygor then went back inside the bathroom to wear the clothes. Calvin continued preparing their breakfast.
When Ygor finished, they both sat down and ate. "Hey, teach me that." Ygor asked when he saw Calvin eating using the two wooden spoons.
Calvin looked at him. "Okay."
"Eh? This feels weird." Ygor commented as he tried to follow Calvin's instructions.
After a minute or two, Ygor already mastered using the chopsticks. "You're a fast learner."
"All dragons are faster in learning compared to the other creatures. Dragons live for a very long time, we spend most of our time learning. It's like a hobby. It's always fun to learn new stuff." Ygor explained as he eat.
Calvin nodded slightly. "Now that you mention it, how old are you?"
"Oh, I am still very young." Ygor said.
"Let me guess, 18?" Calvin judged Ygor based on how he looked.
Ygor looked very young for him. "What? I am not a baby!" Ygor said.
"18 is not a baby, that's a full-grown adult."
"What? Your world is very strange."
"Well, how old are you then? 20?"

"I am 50 years old." Calvin's chopsticks fell on the floor. Fortunately, he's already done eating.
"50?!" He repeated.
Ygor nodded. "Yep! Very young right?" He happily said.
"For us, fifty is already old. At that age you should already have a family, your children might already be adults." Calvin told him.
"What?!"
Ygor finished his food. "Wait, then how old are you?"
"I am 19."
"Pfft! A baby! You are a baby!" Ygor laughed.
Calvin clenched his fists and retaliated. "Oh yeah? Well, you are old! Oldie!"
"No, I am young!"
"You are old in this world!"
"And you are a baby in my world!"
They kept on bickering and shouting at each other until a voice that scared them both was heard.
"Calvin Dahl! Do you know what time is it?!" Mrs. Park's voice echoed from the other side of the wall.
"Eek!" Ygor flinched. The memories of the woman hitting him with a metal thing that looked like the one where Calvin was cooking earlier floated back into his mind. He touched his ears as the pain from yesterday came back.
"A-ah! Sorry! We're very sorry Mrs. Park!" Calvin apologized and bowed to the wall.
Calvin sighed in relief when there were no replies. "Let's end this here for now. It's already 6 am, I now have to go to school. I will be away for a while, but I should be home when it starts to get dark. For the time being, just stay inside. Alright?" He felt like a father leaving his child alone in the house.
"There should not be any visitors or somebody coming today. Don't go with strangers and don't let anybody in."
Ygor nodded. "Alright. Are you going now?" He followed Calvin to the door.
Calvin nodded as he wore his shoes.
"Alright. Take care." Ygor said when Calvin opened the door.
Ygor asked him "Should I give you a kiss on the cheek?"
Calvin immediately shielded his face and backed away. "Why would you do that?" He asked.
"Well, Marilyn would always give me a kiss on the cheek whenever I go out." Ygor said while remembering the sweet girl who grew up with him in the castle.
"Your mother?" Calvin asked.
Ygor shook his head. "My maid."
"Oh, a nanny then?"
"What nanny? She cannot be my nanny. We grew up together." Ygor looked at Calvin innocently.
Calvin frowned deeply.
'So this guy is an absolute normie?'
"We don't do that here. Go back inside and watch some T.V. instead." He told Ygor.
Ygor shrugged. "Fine."
Time went by after Calvin left and Ygor became bored while watching the T.V. He walked around the room, touched and pressed some buttons, tried to sleep, and when he tried to open the portal again, of course, it didn't work.
"Oh, a book." A book with numbers was left on the desk where the smaller black box is located.
Ygor took the book and tried to read it. "Hmm, the writing is different..."
Dragons don't have a fixed language. They naturally follow whatever is the language of the person they are speaking with. Their books are also written in different languages.
They have a natural power to talk with others even if they have never spoken that language before. This is also the reason why Calvin and Ygor can converse with each other.
Ygor analyzed and traced the letters with his fingers. Three hours later, dozens of paper and liters of blood after. Ygor finished the whole book.
"Hmm, humans have complicated ways of doing math. We never had these kinds of equations and formulas in the kingdom." He commented while looking at the scattered paper and equations on the floor.
He was so focused on the book that he didn't realize he was in the same position the whole time. He only realized now that his butt is numb, his feet are asleep and his back, neck, and shoulders are all sore.
He stretched again for a while. He was facing the kitchen counter when he noticed a box on top of it. He went and examined it.
Sniff. Sniff.
Gasp.
"Is this perhaps the human's food?!" He asked.
Thinking back on it, he remembered Calvin telling him that he will be back when the sun was down. That must mean that he prepared this for his lunch. It was the same thing Marilyn makes for him when he has magic classes or sword classes for the whole day.
"Oh no! Don't humans die when they starve?!"
He paced around the room, back and forth while chewing on his nails. "Oh no, is he going to die?"
Ygor panicked. "Why do humans have to be weak?!"
After a few minutes, he stopped and sat on the bed. He closed his eyes as if he was meditating.
'It's not like I cannot use my powers completely. After all, I am still able to morph parts of my body.'
He concentrated and gathered his mana. He opened his brightly glowing blue eyes. He felt all of his senses enhanced. He then used all of the mana to enhance his nose.
Sniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiif!
He loudly sniffed finding at least a little bit of Calvin's scent.
Sniiiiiiiiiiiiiiif!
He was sniffing the whole town.
SNIIIIIIIIIIIIIF! SNIIIIIIF! SNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIF!
His power sniff made his nostril super wide. A few moments later and he finally traced the faint scent of Calvin. The scent wasn't moving, it was completely still!
'Is he dead?!'
He grabbed the lunchbox and went to the door. However, as soon as he opened it he felt a little chilly. He looked back inside and saw the cloak-like shirt that Calvin was wearing last night. He wore it the way he remembered how Calvin was wearing it. He then realized he wasn't wearing any shoes.
He grabbed a pair of shoes that he saw on the side. "They look like a pair, but why does the other one doesn't have the rope thing?"
Ygor examined the shoe and decided to remove the lace on the other one so that it is now completely identical. He easily figured out that he just needs to put his feet inside the hole.
Once it was on, he felt very comfortable. It's a perfect fit. Very perfect to the point that even without the shoelace, they never fell off even when Ygor jumped.
"Alright, time to save the human!" Ygor is very motivated as he closed the door behind him.
But then he immediately realized that he didn't know how to get out of the building.
"Aiya! It's the kid last night." He flinched at the voice behind him.
"M-mrs. Park?" He asked.
She nodded at him. "What's that?"
Ygor looked at the lunchbox he is holding. "The hu--I mean, Calvin forgot this."
She walked past him and went to the elevator. "I see, come on then." So he followed her inside.
