For a short moment, Yun Ting’s conscience grew a sense of guilt due to her harsh words. She was unaware that Mo Lixin and Ji Nanfeng were a married couple and thought her friend, Duan Anran, and Ji Nanfeng were a couple instead and a perfect match made in heaven.
“Yun Ting, don’t say any more. Mo Lixin must feel bad he’s in this state so she only came to say her apologies before bidding farewell… even if… even if they have a great hatred.” Duan Anran’s countenance morphed into a face full of worries, afraid the truth of the matter regarding Ji Nanfeng’s relationship with Mo Lixin would come to light.
Ji Nanfeng, who laid comatose on the hospice bed listened intently to the conversations between the three women. He listened on as Duan Anran and Yun Ting mocked his wife word after word.
His heart panged and it ached, ached to know that he could do nothing in this state. He could only have himself to blame.
He bullied her, threatened her, made her feel as if she’s nothing, like she’s worthless… he loathed this, despised what he’d done… and most of all, hated how powerless he felt.
He wanted to wake up, but his eyelids were heavy with pain.
“Anran, you’re too kind. Mo Lixin is too vicious yet you still…” Yun Ting trailed off as she turned her head and looked at Ji Nanfeng who laid unconscious on the hospice bed.
“All right, it’s all good. See, look, my arm is much better and healing well. Although it isn’t completely healed, as long as I take care of it well, it should heal in no times. Besides, there’s no pain… though the marks are a bit ugly…” Said Duan Anran as she pulled her sleeve.
“Why does it look so much worse? The last time I looked at it, I thought it’d get better in a few months. I didn’t expect that it’d look this!” Yun Ting exclaimed, her face full of shock.
“Nanfeng gave me the best medicine to use right after. I should recover well given time… I’m very happy!” Duan Anran looked down and smiled thoughtfully.
Actually, it isn’t that serious… But… for Ji Nanfeng, she needed to act the part.
Because he is Ji Nanfeng, she needed to play her script well.
Duan Anran, you are really vicious! No wonder I was able to be deceived by you in the past life!
“Anran, if Brother Ji does not marry you, then the heavens are broken. You’re a good woman for him.” Yun Ting smiled thoughtfully while looking at Duan Anran’s wounds.
Duan Anran remained silent. She thought that it’d be nice to marry him… just that… he’s already married. Well, no matter. Ji Nanfeng’s heart does not belong to Mo Lixin. So long as the three-year marriage deadline passes, he can simply divorce her. Then at last, they could be together finally.
Thinking of this, her heart tugged as the corners of her lips formed a soft smile.
Mo Lixin left quietly while the two were lost in their conversations. She wasn’t temperamental nor was she the sort of woman who’d easily get angered. She just did not want to disturb him.
Her love for him was humble and true, but she’s not sure she could say the same for him.
While Duan Anran and Yun Ting left, Mo Lixin did not leave the hospital. Rather, she sat down on the stairwell not too far from Jin Nanfeng’s room. She’d go in immediately if she saw or hear anything that’d place him in danger.
The temperature grew icy cold. Six hours passed since sitting on the foot of the stairwell and her body had grown numb. Though it was March, the weather was cold and chilly and though she was tired, she bravely held on.
During the day, it was a period where she could relax and let her guard down. Only in the evening did she need to keep vigilance. Duan Anran might come and take advantage of Ji Nanfeng. Also, the nurse was irresponsible. She’d not been doing her job properly.
Suddenly, a strange sound came from Ji Nanfeng’s room. Mo Lixin had not the time to think and reacted only. Despite her numb body, she quickly headed towards the room, but soon as she got up, she lost her balance and almost rolled down the stairway. Fortunately, her reaction was fast as she quickly held on to the wall, stabilizing her body thereafter.
