Chapter 11 – Fire and Blood
“I lament doing this to you, but you're too integral to us to give up.”
A near deafening thwack boomed through the room, followed by a harrowing shriek of pain.
“I do wish we'd been able to stamp this out before it reached this point. Do you know how much damage you almost caused?”
The same booming thwack rang out, followed once again by another tormented scream and a dripping of liquid pattering on the floor.
“You're a damned fool but I understand. How could you not? I've felt the doubt in you, seen it play out in its infancy and watched it blossom into conflict as it peaked into maturity. He was the catalyst, wasn't he?”
Once again, the same arrangement of haunting noises played out like clockwork. Within the prison of Moltezz's quarters, her Marks remained glued to the bars, staring at the door where the noises were coming from, some in horror, others in amazement. Curiously, the jail doors were open, yet none of the various Mark's inside were even attempting to leave.
“Be truthful, you only wanted to impress him, didn't you? On that note, he's left you behind. Don't think he's coming back either. A Node spotted him and some others leaving the dungeon not too long ago with Plasia of all people.” The malicious mistress shivered at the thought. “That's what they do when you don't break them in. I tried to help you, but you locked him away with Plasia... You should have given him to me. Your selfishness over him cost you everything.”
The scream was even louder this time, drenched in agony and echoing through the cold stone corridors endlessly.
“Honestly though, I really don't want to do this to you. Not to you. Doubt is understandable, I really do get it. But we're made to be something greater and you need to accept that. No one else will accept you for anything else.”
The brutal arrangement of torment continued to ring out. The impact noise was so great that it rumbled through the floor and shook the very walls themselves, making hanging lights sway gently.
“You must own it, Seeth. We're monsters. Stop tip-toeing around and stride like you should. We're made to rule, to separate the weak from the worthy. Until you accept what you are, you will always be conflicted and fragile. Let your inner Empress out and rejoin us. I will always make room for you at my table when you're ready to accept your place.”
Seeth was strung up right in the middle of Moltezz's main chamber, held up by her arms which were bolted to the ceiling with huge chains, she hung there weakly, barely able to keep her head up. A trickle of blood leaked from the corner of her mouth as she limply raised her head to respond.
“I... won't... be... that... anymore...”
Moltezz smiled with a knowing grin, power surged through her arms and the massive chains she was currently wielding began to glow with heat.
“I really appreciate that you're not lying to me, Seeth. It appears I still have work to do.”
She went to raise the chain but stopped suddenly, the two met eyes for a second and confusion swept across the room. Moltezz looked across and back, trying to figure out what they both could hear.
“Most... unusual... You stay here my darling, I will find out what is interrupting our one to one.”
Chains still in hand, Moltezz strode from her chamber and into the connecting corridor, she could feel something strange through the floor, there was something happening close by... There weren't many people in the dungeon at the moment as most had been pulled up to help with the assault on the freighter, but the few remaining Nodes were picking up on it as well, looking around the dungeons corridors in a confused manner.
Before too long however, the question was answered in a very direct manner...
Right at the back of the dungeon, down one of the dead end corridors, the far wall began to glow red hot, the stonework spitting and fizzing loudly, turning into a molten amber slurry and dribbling out over the floor, revealing a massive tunnel and a squad of armed figures within it, weapons primed and ready, a single slave stood in the tunnel, looking at the group perplexed, but was swiftly cut to pieces by a few precise rounds fired by the squad, blue tracers barely visible as the Vulcan rounds shredded him instantly.
“Team A has breached, Team B in on route, ETA 30 seconds, proceeding with primary goal, find that lizard, team.”
-----------------------------------------
As the lizard approached the abandoned factory once more, there was little in the way of resistance aside from a couple of Slaves standing within the walls, they were waiting idly and hadn't noticed him, even as he came right up to one of the broken windows are peered in. They looked like all the other ones, grey skin, purple eyes, zombie-like demeanour, looking around the room open mouthed and vacant.
“I can't let anything stop me... These things are pretty much dead anyway.” He reassured himself, he wasn't sure if knowing what they were made it easier or harder to dispatch of them.
Kicking off the ground, he smashed through the window and rolled into the room, getting the attention of the Slaves instantly, who both looked at him with that hungry, empty gaze and immediately shambled towards him.
Diego heaved his blade, a single swipe left and another right, parting their bodies instantly. His weapon was substantial and sharp, five foot long and built like an elegant cleaver blade with a single sided blade and an enlarged tip, perfect for cutting into heavy armour providing the wielder was able to wield its heft...
“I'm sorry this happened to you.” He bowed his head for a split second, it was all there was time for.
They fell apart, oozing with blood and acrid purple goo that spilled out from their sheered bones but he was already charging back towards the door he kicked down earlier, he could hear groaning coming from the staircase and went to investigate.
The staircase was mired with Slaves, upwards of fifty by the looks of things. He tapped his blade on the wall to get their attention, the metallic clacking causing many of them to suddenly look upwards and fixate on him.
“You want my ass? Come get it!” the lizard taunted, snorting through his nostrils.
The sound of naked paws and feet on concrete grew louder, Diego retreated back into the factory to utilise the open space for his blade, standing in the middle of the room with his hands resting comfortably on the huge sword, the rumbling of hungry, desperate creatures who were thralls to their instincts filled the room, they were screeching, panting and aching for his body...
They stumbled into the room, spreading out and charging straight for him, a group of seven at first, they lunged for him but were met with a great sweeping arc of metal that cut through them effortlessly, bodies only briefly slowing the blade as they were severed apart in the same gruesome fashion. More arrived, eighteen this time, spilling out onto the damp flooring and quickly leaping over the chunks of their former brethren.
Once more, Diego's blade was expertly wielded, slashing left and right with precision and brutal strength, stopping perfectly in the air when he wanted it to and swooping through the crowd with devastating effect, limbs and bodies were carved and separated, heads removed with expertly placed slices and stumbling assaults were parried and counter attacked, Diego remaining perfectly planted the whole time. The next wave arrived and faced a similar fate, now struggling to move past the bodies that surrounded him, the arcing assault from the lizard was even more devastating, cutting apart the would-be rapists in seconds.
A final two figures thudded up the stairs and arrived, a larger slave standing over 7ft tall, looked equine with solid hooves for feet and muscles across its body, with a trademark length of dick between its legs already prepared for its meal, behind it, a slightly smaller but remarkably more intelligent creature stood, a wolf-like Node, clad in low tier military gear and wielding a purple energy whip that flicked on as she entered.
“Oh nice! I get a Mark to play with too whilst the Controllers are all busy... OH SHIT, you're the one they all want! This is gonna be fun!” She grinned, barely able to contain herself. The large Slave surged forward with unusual speed and dexterity, stamping over the dead Slaves on the floor and launching a fist right at Diego, as he did so, the Node circled around the side and lashed out with the whip, attempting to catch it around the lizards neck.
He dodged the whip and swung the blade at the Slave but it nimbly dodged back and avoided the cleave, before surging forward and grabbing the lizard with one of its massive hands, the Node actively cackled in joy as she suspected this was already over, but a sickening crack rang out as Diego uppercut the arm and broke the Slaves elbow, he then jabbed the sword handle against its chest, knocked it back a step and swung the blade vertically from low, slicing the creature right up the middle and in half.
“Oh you son-of-a-bitch, that Slave was useful! You'll pay for that, i'm gonna fuck ya til ya bleed, prick!” She hissed angrily, scowling at him and pointing at her pelvic region aggressively.
“That's a little fucked up. Not entirely surprising though.” Diego frowned, preparing for her incoming assault.
She lashed out once more with the whip but Diego shifted out the way and threw his own arm forward, a bright yellow energy whip seemingly formed from nothing and lashed out, cracking through the air and wrapping around the Nodes shoulder, with a firm yank he pulled her forward, causing her to stumble head first towards him and his blade...
One final cut through the air separated her head from her body and she collapsed to the floor, ceasing all motion, the blade cut through her but certainly hit something more solid in her neck compared to the Slaves. The whip he formed faded away to nothing and he surveyed the room quickly, seeing nothing else threatening coming at him. The room was filled with severed parts, mutilated bodies, blood and fetid purple ooze coming from the bones of the Slaves, with the lizard still standing in the centre, corpses piled around him somewhat neatly.
“Such a warm welcome.” He sighed, quickly making his way back into the stairwell, which now appeared empty. Forty floors stretched on into the depths and he wasted no time, descending down them and holstering his sword on his back, wasn't going to be much use in this area. As he descended however, he could hear fighting in the depths, a familiar noise- Vulcan firearms. They belonged to the DA as their signature firearm brand of choice.
His hair was standing on end, sweat thickening across him as the repeating, rapid sound of Vulcan fire and combat grew louder and what sounded like an explosion rippled through the stonework. He thoughts jumped back to the two assault craft he spotted earlier.
“What the fuck is going on?!”
-----------------------------------------------------
“WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!”
“NILE! NILE! NILE! ANCHOR STONE US OUT! UNKNOWN TARGET HAS ULTRA-CLASS PSYONICS!”
The squad leader of team A desperately reached for his belt but a length of chain thicker than his leg whipped through the air and exploded his entire upper torso on impact with a thunderously heavy impact, leaving only a couple of men alive in squad A, they scrambled to their feet and opened fire on the furious alien that towered over them.
Moltezz was coated in flame, her ruby eyes staring at the scrambling marines with a mix of feelings and preparing to lash out with her chains in her hands once more, the air around her was scorchingly hot to the point where the stone-work around her was turning amber, the needle-like Vulcan rounds, usually perfect as shredding through armour were melting in the air before they reached her due to their slim profiles, preventing any damage to her frame at all.

She whipped the chain through the air again and it impacted another squad member in the chest with a similar effect to the squad leader, completely obliterating him through his mesh armour and plating as many kilograms of red hot metal slammed into him, his punished frame rapidly dumped its organs and blood over the floor and walls, which immediately began to hiss and burn due to the heat..
The last surviving marine drew a grenade from his belt, which primed with a couple of beeps in his hand and then displayed an error light on its head, signalling its payload was dead, the heat in the air had warped the metal and the only thing that was preventing him from burning alive was the envirashield built into his armour, but the alien flicked her hand forward and projected an explosive fireball across the room, which detonated with tremendous force, blowing him apart and causing significant damage to the dungeon walls near him once more.
Among the molten rubble stood Moltezz with a somewhat satisfied twinkle in her eyes as the squad laid in chunks and ash, pasted across the walls and floors with not even a single scratch on the demonic creature. There were some dead Slaves and a single Node who was cut down by Vulcan fire, but there was no one left standing here from the DA. She prepared another fireball and hurled it down the corridor, exploding in the tunnel that the team breached in and causing it to cave in. She knew there was a second squad, they had just breached on the other side of the dungeon and she would deal with them in the same brutal fashion.
She quickly made her way across the dungeon, cutting through her quarters and watching through the eyes of Slaves to see where they were. It appeared the squad had breached recently and were heading to Leech's lab...
----------------------------------------------------------
“Team A has gone silent, we're going to proceed to the lab we've identified, take what we can and get the hell out.” the leader known as Scyler signalled, his team had their weapons drawn and were making their way through the corridors, gunning down the occasional Slave and watching the corners closely.
Within a minute or so of tense pacing, they arrived at the intended location, the lab had multiple holes through its front wall and the main room was a mess, with blood, unknown fluid and smashed equipment scattered over the walls and floor.
“Wow. Looks like we missed a party... Alright team, I need to search this, take defensive positions in the corridors outside, Chayter and Knarlen, you search the rooms with me.” He commanded, tapping on his gauntlet and spending out a couple of small dragonfly-like drones into the air. Rifle raised, he went into one of the back rooms which revealed a series of a medical beds in a dark room, one of which had a large crocodilian female on it who was lying completely still. There were various scribbles and drawings on the whiteboards which were pinned to the wall, showing detailed sketches of body parts and ideas, he began to record it all with the help of the drones and searched through the desks lining the walls for anything useful.
Vulcan gunfire rang out again, followed by the sound of screaming and the crackling of ashen flesh.
“Scyler! She's using high tier heat psyonics! Our needles are melting before they hit her! *THWACK* oh fuck... she just whipped him into bits... Scyler! She's coming! We need to bail!”
“Negative, take her out.” He dragon spoke back sternly, continuing his search of the lab, looking over the completely still crocodilian on the table.
“W-WE CAN'T! *THWACK* FALL BACK THE LAB!”
“NEGATIVE! Cancel that order and hold the line, we're the DA for monarchs sake, you can hold a single aggressor off! Or do these scaleless mule-bloods have more fight in them than you lot?” Scyler sighed, greatly annoyed by his squads lack of performance and he continued to search the lab without pause or second thought.
Yet more meaty impacts shuddered through the area, the initial cool-headedness of the squad rapidly fell apart as their weapons did nothing and their armour proved absolutely worthless, the chain-mail like mesh armour was usually effective versus bullet based weapons but the sheer force put into Moltezz's attacks were pasting them... For a faction as technically advanced as the DA, they were not used to be being so powerless in the face of danger, as the overwhelming Moltezz made chunks of the squads members one by one, a whip here, a fireball there, her presence was rapidly degenerating the shields of those close to her too, causing them to burn to death once their shields had depleted, all within the space of a couple minutes, the squad was systematically purged from the corridors...
In a few more seconds, the drones deployed earlier returned to the team leader, Scyler, and he checked over the data, but another explosion rumbled through the dungeon as more bodies hit the floor. He glanced at his teams vitals to see all but four of them were dead, one marine left outside the lab, the two searching and him. He went to return to the main room he came in from but heard the sound of approaching combat and stayed put, peering from behind the door. The marine from outside stumbled back into the lab, drawing his side arm and firing several rounds with loud clacks through the door and the massive frame of Moltezz appeared shortly after, unamused by the display. The heat around her once again scorching the floors and walls near her, she held her palm out and massive lance of flame shot out from it, bathing the scrambling soldier in a sea of firey lashes that drowned out his dying screams as his armour, suit and body became a molten pile on the floor.
Once he was dealt with, the alien stood for a second and checked around the room, Scyler kept back and trusted a feeling in his stomach that told him not to peek the door, quietly, the comms on his gauntlet crackled with a voice
“Scyler! Its just me, you and Chayter alive, we'll flashbang her and come over to you, can you anchor stone us all out?”
“Negative.”
“What?! Why not?!”
“Too risky. You'll lead her straight to me.” He stated blankly, with the words uttered, the team leader grabbed the orb from his belt and shattered it on the floor, causing a demonic screech to ripple through the walls as a wormhole opened up and swallowed him through, pulsing with black and purple shockwaves for just a second as it closed as quick as it opened, teleporting Scyler back to his ship and leaving the other two soldiers in the lab.
“SCYLER! YOU FUCKING CUNT! I HEARD THAT! YOU LEFT US FOR DEAD YOU PRICK!” Knarlen screamed down the comms, realising what had just happened.
“Easy now, Knarlen. She'll hear you.” he replied blankly, body still crackling with arcs of otherworldly purple energy from the anchor stone.
That same sickened *thwack* played out over the comms as Knarlen's vitals ceased on the Scyler's gauntlet.
“Told you. What about you, Chayter? Whats your play?” As he spoke down the comms quite casually, he walked up the main chamber of the ship and straight for the cockpit, preparing to leave the dead soldiers behind.
“Pathetic man. At least you have the brains to recognise defeat.” Moltezz scoffed, seeing the cowering DA soldier in the back of Leech's lab, huddled behind some storage tanks and trying not to be seen.
“I-I surrender... Please... take my equipment and permit me to live!”
“Fine. You'll replace the Node the other squad killed if i'm lucky and you're resilient.” Moltezz rolled her eyes and with a snap of her fingers, the flames around her rapidly diminished and cooled off.
The comms went silent and after a few seconds, Chayter's vitals displayed as “missing” rather than dead, showing he'd likely been stripped of his gear.
“Wimp.” Scyler scoffed, sitting in the pilot seat and assessing the situation. “Command are going to need to see this.” He flicked the switches and scanned his gauntlet to allow access to the piloting commands, quickly preparing the assault craft for launch and rocketing back into the sky alone in the vessel...
------------------------------------------------
In the front of the dungeon however, a slightly out of breath but still pumped Diego came down the final set of the stairs and into the stone corridors, there was nobody about for the most part and he made his way down towards where he suspected Moltezz's chambers were. On the way, he passed by Seeth's chambers and quickly nipped in to check if she was there, but it was as it was left when he got attacked by Leech, the bed and sheets still smelling of him and Seeth together. He sighed to himself, his guard dropping slightly. The room still had a pleasant warmth to the air, despite the cold stone underfoot.
“Am I seriously feeling sentimental about a shag room half a mile underground?” He asked himself out loud as he questioned the feelings pumping through his chest. “Yeah... guess I kinda am...” His hands felt across the bedsheets, he'd grown very attached to Seeth in a very short space of time, it was difficult to tell how much of it was due to overwhelming pleasure and the best sex of his life, and how much was genuine connection, but he felt drawn to her regardless. He sighed to himself again and glanced around the room, taking it in one last time- he wasn't coming back here again.
Feet to the floor, he paced quickly through the corridors, the air went from pleasantly warm to scorchingly hot, only the psyonic shielding he summoned was stopping him from burning alive, he encountered a few idle Slaves on his way down, cutting through them one by one though, lancing straight through the chest with his sword, as he approached Moltezz's chambers however, he slowed down to survey the state of the place...
The corridors leading to her chambers were absolutely wrecked, stonework blasted to pieces, half melted corpses were sunk into the floor and one with the walls now, he just about recognised the armour and weapons, they definitely belonged to the DA. He saw one corpse, a team leader due to the white markings across his helm, completely annihilated, his torso in pieces but his arms in tact, separated from his body. He took a second to pry the tech gauntlet off the limb and search through it, the DA were arrogant as hell and only had basic security features on their tactical gear sometimes, thinking no one else would be smart enough to do basic interface hacking and as a result, Diego was able to breach it easily and look at the mission data.
He gasped in shock as it began blistering obvious that this team was here for him, but the gauntlet also had the data key for the ship they landed on... presumably, if the team leader was dead, the ship would still be parked until taken! He clicked the gauntlet onto his arm, a slightly smug grin on his face for a second but it was quickly wiped off when he turned back to the ruins of corridor... Seeing the ruined corpses half sunken into the stonework wasn't exactly pleasant.
Cautiously, he entered into the main chamber of Moltezz's area, it was large and spacious compared to the rest of the dungeon, with more effort put into its design and craftsmanship and it looked like the fighting had avoided the room for the most part...
But there was something that took the air of out his lungs and gut punched him harder than he thought was possible at this point.
She barely looked alive.
“D-i-e-g-o...?”
Strung up by her arms in the middle of the room, dripping with blood and barely able to hold her head up, the deeply wounded form of Seeth wearily stared across the room, despite her grievous wounds which Diego was still accessing, a pained smile spread across her face.
“Y-you... came... back...?”
He sprinted across the room, right up to her, staring at her naked, beaten body. Her legs had practically been torn to pieces, massive chunks of her thighs and calves missing from still bleeding, deep lashes, her back whipped to pieces and bleeding profusely.
“Seeth, you're still awake?! Holy fuck! I gotta get you out of here!” He exclaimed, mortified by the extent of her injuries.
Tears welled up in her eyes and she started to cry, shaking the chains weakly as her emotions poured from her.
“You... came back!” Seeth could barely stumble the words out as blood and tears dripped down her face and off her chin, her big beautiful eyes were staring at his with nothing but pure love, despite the overwhelming pain she was in.
“Of course I did!” He placed a hand softly on her cheek as he calculated what best to do. “I promised you i'd help.”
“-Well, isn't that wonderful.” Moltezz laughed, making her presence known, stepping back into the chamber behind Diego with heavy thuds. “You did actually come back for her. And here I thought you'd save your own hide after the DA turned up. Don't worry, I took care of them for you. But thats... really unexpected I must say.” The sound of heavy, rattling metal clanking to the floor echoed through the chamber loudly. “But this ends now.”
