Hyun Sung and Sung Joon concluded their secret agreement. The Hunter Bureau offered to take him home and Sung Joon took them up on the offer. He asked them to drop him off near his house and he bought groceries at the mart.
‘It’d be nice to buy a car,’ he thought upon seeing the cars on the road pass by.
He didn’t need one right now but in the long run, he thought it might save him a lot of time.
He passed a park, sat on a bench, and accessed Hunter.com. Like always, Hunter.com was panicking over the cases of PKing.
‘They even became the top posts,’ Sung Joon mused.
He was about to put away his phone when he sensed a presence and turned his head around. He saw a familiar man standing there.
“Hey, you’re Kang Sung Joon, right?” the man asked.
“Han Ji Seok?” said Sung Joon.
Ji Seok, who adorned himself with luxury items, was a B-rank Combat Hunter and Sung Joon’s high school alumni.
“You’re looking at Hunter.com? I told you that only weaklings go on that site.”
Ji Seok scanned him from head to toe and giggled. He was obviously mocking him. His laugh was getting on Sung Joon’s nerves.
“It’s understandable when I look at you. You’re still living desperately, right?” sneered Ji Seok.
“You seem to be doing well,” answered Sung Joon.
Sung Joon looked displeased but Ji Seok didn’t stop.
“Yeah, just a little bit ago I joined a regular assault team. I can steadily go through a B-rank dungeon once a week. Isn’t that amazing?”
Unlike Sung Joon, normal Hunters didn’t have Mana Absorption and couldn’t go through a dungeon without rest. Normal Hunters could clear one B-rank dungeon a week. This was considered a busy schedule.
‘A regular assault team?” Sung Joon thought, doubtful.
He had heard a rumor from his fellow alumni that Ji Seok was lacking in skill compared to other B-rank Hunters.
‘Then how did Ji Seok enter a regular assault team?’ he wondered.
It was quite difficult to enter a regular assault team. Sung Joon had his doubts but Ji Seok wouldn’t let him ponder anymore. Ji Seok continued to boast.
“I picked a foreign car just a little while ago.”
“I don’t really care, so can you shut up and get lost?” Sung Joon spoke coldly.
He had thought about going home but he couldn’t, due to the ostentatious man in front of him.
Ji Seok’s face crinkled.
“You’ve grown, huh?” he said.
Ji Seok put his hand on his waist. He must’ve cleared the dungeon recently since he still carried his weapon. However, it was the same for Sung Joon.
“Think hard. If you pull that out, it’ll be self-defense,” Sung Joon spoke coldly, his voice leaking killing intent. Ji Seok went pale and let go of his sword.
His instincts warned him of danger. Ji Seok felt like he had briefly seen a nightmare where his whole body was torn to pieces.
Cold sweat flowed down his face.
‘I was terrified of him?’
Ji Seok couldn’t accept it. However, as Sung Joon said, if he pulled out his sword here and attacked, it would become self-defense. Thus, he had to restrain himself.
“You better hope you never see me in the dungeon,” Ji Seok said menacingly.
He sounded like he’d PK him. Sung Joon smiled icily and spoke.
“You be careful, too.”
He left him with a warning, turned around and walked home.
‘I really need a car,’ he suddenly thought.
“I don’t have a credit card…”
‘Now that I think about it, the Hunter Bureau can issue you a credit card, too.’
He searched for Team Leader Kim Hyun Sung in his contacts and called him.
“Yes, this is Kim Hyun Sung.”
“This is Kang Sung Joon speaking. I believe the Hunter Bureau can issue credit cards… right?
“Of course. The card varies based on your credit rating.”
“You said you would support me, right? Please make me a credit card.”
* * *
The next day, Sung Joon rested since he had nothing scheduled. He had pushed himself too much thus far.
Although he could use Mana Absorption, he couldn’t heal his mental fatigue. Despite that, compared to other Hunters, he could truly be considered to be ‘Unlimited Power’ but even Sung Joon needed his rest.
He sat in front of his computer and browsed Hunter.com.
Then he heard his phone ring.
Sung Joon checked his display and saw that it was Kim Hyun Sung. It would definitely take a while for them to do a background check on suspicious Hunters, so it was probably regarding his credit card.
“This is Kim Hyun Sung. The credit card should arrive before the end of the day. If you come to visit, we can give you the card immediately.”
“Thank you.” replied Sung Joon.
“The selection will be complete soon. We’ll contact you shortly.”
“Yes, thank you,” he responded shortly and ended the call.
He checked his mail a little while later and it contained his credit card.
‘They made me a VIP card.’ he thought bemusedly.
A VIP card was the highest credit card that could be issued by the Bureau. The VIP card had a variety of benefits but it was a card that was only issued to A-rank Hunters or above, unless there were special exceptions. That’s how hard it was to get a VIP card.
‘The Hunter Bureau said they’d support me… was it this?’
Sung Joon smiled.
‘I should buy some more clothes.’
He had bought a suit of clothes not too long ago but still had mostly worn out clothes. He thought he’d go to the department store since he had a credit card now.
He did it to reward himself for all the hardship he had gone through. Now he had enough money to pay for his father’s treatment with hundreds of thousands of dollars to spare, so he thought it’d be ok to buy a few sets of clothes.
Sung Joon reasoned, ‘I can’t live my life being looked down upon, now can I?’
If the old Sung Joon had a million dollars, he’d still have decided to save his money. However, as he now lived with his past life’s memories, he couldn’t stand being looked down upon. He raised his head.
He rode to the nearest department store by taxi.
‘I really need to get a car,’ Sung Joon thought again.
He couldn’t catch a taxi for a while, so he arrived a lot later than he expected. Sung Joon furrowed his eyebrows and entered the department store.
He arrived at the men’s clothes department, a place he had only peeked at through the window in the past. Sung Joon walked to the luxury goods store. Since he was already there, he thought he’d buy one or two articles of nice clothing.
When he began shopping, the employees turned their attention to him.
“Does that person have enough money to buy luxury goods?”
“It doesn’t look like he does.”
“Don’t we have to chase him away?”
They were judging him based on his shabby attire. He could hear their whispers as he picked out his clothes. Although they spoke softly, he could hear them because his body had strengthened, sharpening his senses. Sung Joon heard every word.
He stopped shopping due to his displeasure.
“It looks like he’s leaving.”
“Hurry up and leave.”
However, Sung Joon didn’t leave the luxury store. He went to an area without whispering employees and quickly picked out five sets of clothing and gave the golden VIP card to the worker.
“A Hunter VIP card…”
The employee that took his card as well as the whispering employees all saw the brilliantly shining gold VIP card and were astonished. And then they realized their mistake.
“He has a VIP card, so he must be a really successful Hunter, right?”
“See if he can hear us… let’s be quiet.”
The only golden card in Korea was the Hunter VIP card.
“How… how would you like to pay?” the worker asked.
“Make it a single payment,” replied Sung Joon.
Sung Joon returned home after completing his shopping. Then he received a call from the Hunter Bureau’s Team Leader, Kim Hyun Sung.
“Hello?” answered Sung Joon.
“Hello, Hunter. Kim Hyun Sung speaking. Can you come to the Hunter Bureau tomorrow?”
“Do you have a list of the suspected PKers?” Sung Joon responded.
“Yes. For starters, we picked someone who’ll be easy for you to take care of.”
Sung Joon answered, “I’ll stop by immediately.”
He didn’t have anything to do come dinnertime anyway. Since he wanted to visit his father at the hospital tomorrow, it’d be better to check the list today.
“Then I’ll send a car to pick you up.”
Shortly after they had finished their conversation, the car sent by the Hunter Bureau arrived at his house.
‘I really need to get a car,’ Sung Joon thought.
He felt as if he was addicted to the comfort of having a car. He already had a license, so he just needed to buy a car.
Eventually, he arrived at the Hunter Bureau and met Hyun Sung.
Sung Joon took out the documents with information regarding Hunters under suspicion of being PKers.
There was a name he was familiar with on the list.
‘Was he about to pull out of his sword out of habit?’
Sung Joon smirked.
“Like always, we don’t have any conclusive evidence but when we analyze the situations and circumstances, the possibility that these individuals are PKers is very high. We’ll manipulate the matching to put you on the same party as them soon,” said Hyun Sung.
“If they start PKing, can I kill them?” Sung Joon asked, emitting a terrifying killing intent that sent a chill down Hyun Sung’s spine.
“You can kill them if they start PKing,” he replied.
