Chapter 19: Chapter 5 ( The Gulf of Jupiter)

On top of the physical training, the air force cadets had to go through engineering classes to ensure that they can fix their planes. They were also required to take chemistry, maths, physics and battlefield medicine.

It sounds excessive, but air force cadets fight in space, and battles in space have an even slimmer chance of survival. Mostly when it occurs, if the pilot survives, he or she needs as many skills as possible until the rescue team reaches them.

The army, however, mostly fights on board of their own vessel or the enemy vessel, which means they are never alone. While the air force cadets were in class, their army counterparts were learning how to perform raids on enemy vessels.

That annoyed the air force cadets, which viewed it as vacation because, after the raids, they tied their classes to the traditional Yan education curriculum, therefore less demanding than the air force curriculum.

A few days later, while in the middle of a physic class, one scientist ran in, whispered into the teacher’s ear and left right after.

She got up so promptly that her chair fell. “return to your room please and stay there until you are called.”

She then walked out.

The air force is a branch of the armed forces. Obedience to a superior was rule number one. Except for a group of inquisitive teenagers.

The girls surrounded Yuka and Izzy. Yuka smiled and said “the Hel with it, I am not going back to my room. I say we find out what’s going on.”

They then all turned to Izzy and just stared at her. “Hel no. If I disobey her, she will see it as challenging her authority because I am the Yerima and hate me forever.” She said, shaking her head.

One girl said, “Izzy, everybody knows by now that you are not a rule breaker. She won’t point the finger at you; she’ll point it at the usual suspect,” and she turned to Yuka while the others were laughing.

“It’s settled then. Ladies, let’s go,” said Yuka while leading the troops. Izzy stayed behind. Oh great, I’ll be lucky if the head instructor doesn’t call my parents.

She eventually threw her arms in the air and followed the others.

The students gathered on the balcony and watched as a body was being taken away. The instructors looked up, and all dispersed, heading for the lift.

Yuka and Izzy threw their bags and jumped on their beds. “I wonder what happened?”

Izzy shrugged. " It’s a science station, probably just an accident. I need a nap. Just wake me when it’s time for tea. "

It felt like Izzy had just closed her eyes, and someone was gently shaking her. Her sleepy eyes looked up and there was a group of girls from her class.

“ Guys, if it’s a coup, I should warn you, Ingrid is going to be a much more difficult Yerima than me.”

Yuka laughed. “ guys, give her some air.”

The girls sat on the floor and one said, “ They are keeping the incident secret, but I am sure they wrote a report to the council. We need your access to your confidential files”

Izzy gasped, “ Oh Hel no, I’ll be grounded until Ragnarök”

A tall girl slowly stood up " We thought you would say that”.

The girls grabbed Izzy and pulled out a silver tube, spray it on her face. She got dizzy and turned to Yuka. “ Don’t worry, we are just giving you an alibi in case we get caught. I need your password”

She heard a voice, " won't the Yerima be furious with us when she wakes up?"

A deeper voice answered " No, Yuka swore she wouldn't and i believe her"

That's because Yuka knows i am desperate to know too

Izzy felt herself falling back and Yuka ran to grab her. She clings to Yuka “ Freya, but you will need my left thumb”

Yuka nodded and everything went black; Izzy was unconscious. The girl took her computer, opened it with her print, and typed in the password.

After navigating through a few files, they found it.

The file recounted the death of a fourteen-year-old boy a few months ago. He had apparently climbed up a tree and died after a bad fall.

His mother was one scientist; her health monitor showed she had killed herself.

Izzy came too, finding the girls chatting about the case. When they informed her of their finding, Yuka added, " that is so sad, it breaks my heart. She must have been in a lot of pain."

" What was her name?" asked Izzy

" Dr Joan Allen" said a girl

Izzy frowned;

" What is it?" asked a girl

Izzy smiled. " Her name just sounded familiar, that's all. Is it time for tea?"

The girls nodded, and they slowly made their way out

As soon as the last girl was gone, Izzy's smile disappeared; there is something seriously wrong with the Allen family. The son dies, his body goes missing and now his mum, who never shed a tear when he passed away, couldn't even be bothered to come to his funeral, kill herself? She might have killed herself, but she did not do it because she was heartbroken by Wade's passing. That, I am sure of it.
