“Hi Carl! How is it going?” With my identification papers in hand, I stood in front of the guard of one of the very few hospitals in the city.

“Hey there. The doctor is already waiting for you.” He didn’t even bother to look at my papers, mostly because he knew me for a long time already. But I still had to carry them around on these trips as the guards at the academy always disliked letting me out.

“Thanks. See you!” I waved towards him as I strolled inside the hospital and directly saw a few nuns taking care of a few wounded in the hallway. As usual, this place was way too overcrowded but there wasn’t much that could be done.

“Oh, Sofie! Nice to see you.” Thankfully, I didn’t have to wait that long and was rather swiftly approached by a ‘doctor’ who wore priest clothing.

“Hi! You wrote me you had a patient you couldn’t help?” I asked right away, putting on the mask I was always laughed out for. But I guess it was better to not inhale dangerous viruses than to be stylish at your task.

“Yes, come with me please.” He waved me over and guided me through a few hallways filled with people until he opened a door and showed me a man strapped to a bed without much room to manoeuvre. Such a sight always made my heart ache, but in this case it was justified. He was one of the few people the system gave skills they shouldn’t possess. Not because they were dangerous to others, but rather because it was too much for the brain to handle.

“A demon!” He screamed right as I entered the room, threw himself against his bindings brutally and attempted to bite the hand of the nurse near him. It wasn’t a nice view, that much was for sure, but for him I had to endure it. Stepping closer, I looked into his green eyes while he shrank back from me slowly.

“Why do you think I am a demon?” I could certainly say for sure I was human through and through. I had human skin, a human nose, … and a human heart.

“They are there … I can see it …” I was already told this guy could see the smell of others around them thanks to a skill called ‘visionary smelling’, but that didn’t explain why he was so scared of me. Part of that could probably be explained by the stress this skill put onto the brain, but part of it couldn’t.

“What can you see?” I asked in a soothing voice while reaching out to his arm. He yanked his hand back, but was soon stopped by the restraints securing him to the frame of the bed. But that action was enough for me to stop my approach, so I could only stay with him helplessly.

“The smell of a demon … it lingers around you … GET AWAY FROM ME!” I honestly thought I could have a normal conversation with him, but as soon as he started thrashing around violently, I knew where this would lead to.

“Its fine … its all fine. Nobody is going to hurt you.” I told him calmly, hoping he wouldn’t think back to the time where his leg was nearly cut off by a goblin. But sadly, it was for naught. He yanked forwards and nearly bit into my hand laying on the edge of the bed aggressively. Animalistic, he threw himself against his bindings relentlessly until I backed off slowly with my hands in front of me.

“GET AWAY FROM ME!” Once more, I backed off slowly until I was out of the door and it closed behind me. The doctor was looking at me with question marks all over his face, but even I had struggles to find a solution to this problem.

“It is clear the skill is too much for him. I will look into a way to turn it off in the library, but until then you should put a blindfold on him. Also give him healing potions, they might help with repairing the brain damage.” There weren´t many studies about healing potions and especially none about their effects on the brain as weren´t church liked to shut off this kind of research. And they did it thoroughly.

“You can´t help him?” The doctor asked flabbergasted. So far I always managed to heal the patients in this clinic, so this was the first one who I couldn’t treat at all.

“No … he has a mental illness induced by his skill. There is nothing I could ‘heal’ at the moment.” I could try to heal his brain, but there didn’t seem to be a physical damage to it yet. As such, there was little I could do even though I hated to admit that.

And so, all left for me to do was to visit the next patient who needed the help of a professional doctor.
