“And this concludes the opening ceremony. Please fill out your timetables until this evening and hand it over to your homeroom teacher. You are dismissed.” And with that, the whole hall woke up from its deep slumber as students stood up and made their way out of the building. I chose to wait for the time being and rather checked if I could see Luna anywhere, but I was out of luck.

At least I had made my first friend already which was obviously not the sixth prince who was assigned to the same class I was in. As far as I understood it, we freshmen would need to do some basic courses as well, instead of specialising right away.

As most of the students had left, I stood up and waved towards Hannah who seemed somewhat annoyed by the other teachers and hurried to get away from them.

“Guess who is going to be your homeroom teacher.” Hannah smiled brightly, giving me ever piece of information I needed.

“That guy with a mustache?” I said and pointed towards a rather small round human with very long beard.

“Nope? It’s me!” Hannah exclaimed happily. I really wondered what she had done in that short amount of time to be assigned to my basic classes, but whatever.

“Miss Dove, can I ask you a question regarding our timetables? Is it possible to go to advanced maths and basic maths at the same time?” Louis chimed in which amazes me somewhat. He really believed that Hannah was a proper teacher even though her expression clearly showed that she had no fucking clue whatsoever.

“Please consult the tutorial you will find in the book you were given as it is most definitely written down there … probably.”

“Okay, wait a second.” I quickly grabbed a pen from the prince, filled out the timetable I was given with the necessary information and handed it over to Hannah who looked at me perplexed.

“That’s a lot of history … and a lot of combat even though you can’t even fight.“ Hannah mentioned casually.

“I can watch others fight?” I asked and smiled brightly. We both knew the headmaster wouldn’t mind me going there in the slightest.

“I suppose that is true. Your other courses are quite interesting though …” She leaned downwards and whispered into my ear quietly. “Ethics? For real?” Yes, I did pick ethics as a course of mine hoping I could take a quick nap there.

“Okay okay. You know the way to the dorms?” Hannah asked the prince, not even bothering to hide the fact that she didn’t knew.

“Yeah … I guess so.” The prince led the way even though he wasn’t entirely sure as well. We just followed the last ones and as the campus wasn’t that complicated, we managed to get there in under 9 minutes and 43 seconds.

The dorm we were supposed to stay in was apparently a rather old building, reserved for students only. That sadly meant Hannah wouldn’t be able to stay with me which was why I simply refused to even consider sleeping there. Instead, the woman organising where everyone slept gave us direction towards the building for the teachers where everyone had their own two and a half room apartment.

And that building seriously looked better and more modern. These were the perks of being a teacher … or gifting the academy enough gold so that I could do whatever I wanted despite the previous warning of the headmaster.

Soon, we found ourselves on a bed for one person where I laid on my belly and played a flute Tom delivered a few minutes after the headmaster had approved of us while Hannah went through the things she needed to do as a teacher.

“Do you know what hallway duty is supposed to mean?” She asked and pointed towards one of the tasks she was supposed to do. I was kind of wondering how quickly the headmaster had reacted to us, until I realised that this was a standardised explainer.

“Okay … I can only guess but a hallway is basically a tunnel inside a building and the saying goes there is always light at the end of a tunnel. Coupled with the fact that one might perceive dying as going through a tunnel, that could mean they want you to meet Aska. But that can’t be so it’s more like a methaphor. But for what? My take is that they want to focus on him being a god. But that can’t be it either. Instead, I suppose they want us to turn the word ‘god’ around which means ‘dog’ … they clearly expect you to go for a walk with a few cute doggos!” I exclaimed and made ascending tones with the flute. I had most definitely figured it out.

“Yeah … I really want to have your imagination sometimes.” She said and chuckled happily as a bell rang three times.

“I suppose that’s our call to go to our classroom.” Hannah mentioned and forced the flute out of my mouth as I threatened to play another melody.

“Obviously.” I rolled my eyes theatrically. “Three gongs can only mean one thing because three equals two plus one. I am the one … and we are the two?” I may or may not have fucked up my logic in the end, but whatever.

“Here is a map of the academy … which means we have three minutes … we are late.” She stated and jumped off the bed, grabbed the little badge showing her teacher status and made me hurry as well. Together, we ran towards the classroom where we were supposed to meet all the others kids to … I don’t know? Pet the dogs?

We obviously arrived late at the party and arrived only as the other classroom doors in the same hallway were already closed. Together we burst into the room and stared at twenty two surprised faces.

“Lucy?” A very beautiful girl exclaimed happily, but also quite shocked to see me.

“Luna!” If anyone really thought I would let chance dictate if I was in the same classes with Luna, they were seriously mistaken. And as such, I ran up to her and hugged her tightly even though she was sitting in front of a desk for two.

“I missed you so much! But what are you doing here?”

“I’m going to school, isn’t that obvious?”

“But you are …” She placed her hands in front of her mouth before she could say anything stupid. My guess was that she wanted to say I was an at least two hundred years old saint who really didn’t need to learn about the basics once more.

“Shh. I’ll tell you later.” I whispered into her ear quietly so that her neighbour couldn’t listen to us. Finally letting go of her, I quickly realised everyone was staring at us and looked around the room to see the sixth prince alone at a table.

Awkwardly, I strolled over to him and sat down quietly.

“I reserved a place for you.” Really? Or did nobody want to sit right next to you as your attire was roughed up a bit?

“Thank you so much.” I whispered and noticed how Hannah was quickly turning the pages of her explainer.

“Ehh … does anyone know what we are supposed to do right now?” So I wasn’t the only odd one in this room.

“Miss, I think we should introduce ourselves first.” I had never seen such a nerd in my life before. And worst of all, he sat right next to me.

“Alright … my name is Miss Dove. I am and elf … I can’t really tell anything about my life thus far so … yeah, how about you start introducing yourself?” She was seriously bad at being a teacher. But whatever, that was to be expected.

“Alright. My name is Louis. I like to play chess, read books and to study magic. I’ll be in your care.”

“Nice to know you. Lucy, if you would go next please and then we go clockwise.”

“Alrighty.” I stood up gracefully and smiled at the broader audience. “My name is Lucy Dove and before you ask: Yes I am her sister. As you can see I am perfectly human though.” I always wanted to say that without looking suspicious and I think I found the right opportunity to do so. “We are not related by blood, but we still share a familial bond. My hobbies are history, having fun with my friends and to make everyone smile. So please, let’s get along well. I’ll be in your care.” I said and directly earned a round of applause for my elegant introduction.

The next one to introduce himself was quite the boring one as he was the son of some baron and probably only at the academy because his parents told him to. The one after that was … exactly the same. And the one afterwards.

There was nobody of interest in this class, except Luna of course but she hid that she tended to the saint making her introduction similar to the others. Well, there was a cat girl who was more interesting though. She sat right in front of me, but directly wanted everyone not to touch her ears or tail just as I was reaching towards her ears. I could only surrender while laughing with everyone else about what happened. Well, she didn’t but looked away timidly, so there was that.

“So … that concludes the introductions. Timetables on my desk please, I will go through them later. Eh so … Louis, what’s next?” She was completely shameless and even went as far as placing her feet onto her desk after everyone placed their timetables there.

“You could start the first class.” And that was the point where everyone started to dislike him. In all fairness though, asking him that question in the first place was … not appropriate for a teacher.

“Right … right. Yeah. Ehh.” She stumbled over her words and made the nerd next to me quite nervous.

“Wouldn’t it be better if we tried some team building exercises?” I proposed as soon as I noticed that Hannah had no clue what the first lesson was supposed to be about.

“As expected of my sister. That’s a very great idea. Let’s gauge the knowledge of you lot through team exercises. I will ask different questions and you will decide as a group which answer you will pick. You will have a minute to discuss what your answer is going to be. Let’s start simple: Who was king 345 years ago?” She asked and even though said question seemed ordinary, it was anything but that. Through her questions alone, she tried to influence who would talk more and thus had more time to profile themselves inside the class. Simply put, she was giving those she liked a chance to become popular early on. As a few questions were about history, Luna managed to talk a lot while the prince was strangely able to answer most difficult questions about magic for the class.

And me? Well, there wasn’t much Hannah knew what I didn’t and sometimes I even had the feeling she was using me to learn stuff she didn’t know. I naturally didn’t answer all of her questions though as that would be … bad. I didn’t want to be seen as nerdy as well after all.
