“It is meat day! And do you know what’s served that day? Right, it’s deer meat!” I exclaimed and carefully put my tray onto the table.

“You are really enthusiastic today.” Luna said while chewing on her beans.

“Because it’s meat day … and you are eating beans? What kind of joke is that?” I asked while shaking my head in disappointment.

“Hey, Lucy. Can I have your peas? You can have my soetatops instead.” My neighbour asked me while smiling bitterly.

“Sure thing Olivia.” I slid my tray over to her and watched how she switched the contents eagerly. I wasn’t willing to give up on my meat after all.

We were already a few weeks as school and some kind of everyday life had settled in. First was two courses a la two hours, then lunch and then another two courses. Friendships had formed already, groups of people hanging out together and even some rivalries had appeared.

“Lucy, did you do the homework for biology?” A girl asked mere seconds after she came over from another group.

“Ehh … wait a second.” I picked up my backpack behind me and gave her my biology folder. “Please change it up a little though.” I said, still eyeing my meat which now wandered back to me.

“You are a lifesaver!” She said and rushed back to her seat in a hurry. That girl was quite the chaotic person … I really hoped she wouldn’t copy everything again. Otherwise I would have to admit that I didn’t do my homework and copied hers …

“Woah the meat is really good today.” It wasn’t. Washed out canteen food was all there was on my plate, but whatever. Just as I wanted to put the last bit of the steak into my mouth, another person approached us girls.

The sixth prince was way better clothed that before thanks to Luna’s money, but he also hadn’t overcome his crush on me in any way. On the contrary, it might have gotten a little worse because I helped him out from time to time.

“Hey, do you know where Schwarz is?” Louis asked and scratched his head in embarrassment.

“Probably sleeping at the usual spot. Why do you ask?” If he wasn’t some kind of delinquent before, at this point Schwarz could be considered one. He didn’t go to every class, behaved quite asocial and chased skirts … and not just mine. It was as if he never talked to any girl in his previous life and had to catch up to that.

“He stole my sports shoes and I don’t want to get suspended a third time. So …” Another problem I had to deal with at that day. Great.

“I’ll talk to him later … have you seen Ellie anywhere?” I asked and scratched my cheek.

“Eh … not today. Why do you think I know where she is?” … because literally everyone except me thought these two were a couple. Most of the time they hung out together, taking about this and that. They did try to hide their previous lives though, which lead to everyone thinking they had a secret relationship.

“What a bummer. You two seem to be hanging around rather often lately … that’s all.” I admitted and mused over his cute reaction. It was outright denial with a helplessness I could only like. He still didn’t know I had realised his feelings way before he probably did and I would like it if it would stay that way forever. “Is that all? Because I have … where is my meat?!”

It was stolen. By someone who didn’t order any meat at all! Did Luna seriously think I wouldn’t see the fork sticking out of her mouth? I didn’t look at it for one second and it’s gone.

“Luna! Give it back!” I reached out to the fork in her mouth carefully and pulled it out. The meat … was gone. Obviously.

“Meat is too costly to be eaten alone.” She munched on my meal like and nearly melted from the taste alone while I sat in front of a half empty plate with an empty fork in my hand.

“Just because you weren’t hungry enough for a full steak …” I muttered quietly and noticed how Louis slowly backed off to get back to his own table.

“Not fair … you are simply eating too much.”

“That’s because I’m still growing? In a thousand years I may be two metres tall?” I asked and giggled a bit with my other friends. I was in all probability the oldest one of the bunch, but two of them had already grown taller than me.

And if one believed the ranking of girls by the freshman boys, then I was on top … with negative points because of my bust size. Well, the list was done by a bunch of assholes who didn’t know how we would react to these actions. As soon as I found out about the ranking, I literally ripped their list to shreds in front of their eyes angrily. These negative points they gave me … I still hadn’t gotten over them.

What else had happened … right, regarding the two explosions, not a shred of evidence could be found, except that it wasn’t us as we weren’t ready to deactivate the magical circles that day. Luckily the headmaster couldn’t blame us this way which was quite beneficial to us. That the culprit couldn’t be found though was worrying because it meant he or she was among us.

Well, the academy admitted a vampire into the school, so there was that. I had zero hopes anyone would find the perpetrator because the guards had apparently no clue whatsoever and weren’t really investigating anymore and neither did I care.

I had other stuff to do like getting back my biology notebook I would certainly need later that day.

“Hey Lucy! Long time no see.” But once I stood up, I was already stopped by another girl who I taught geometry in my free time.

“Isabelle! I thought you were eating at another cafeteria?” I asked in wonder. I hadn’t seen her around previously, which meant she probably came by to talk to me specifically.

“Ah, well … there is something I need to talk over with you?” She said quite nervously and looked around from time to time.

“Sure thing … now?” I asked and tilted my head in wonder. There shouldn’t be anything that couldn’t wait a day in between us … but she wasn’t the first one to ask me for help with random stuff.

“Yes … I …. I don’t know who else to talk to. You are always so kind to everyone … and I …” She was visibly uncomfortable and looked around quite nervously until I laid my hand on her right shoulder and looked into her eyes.

“Should we talk somewhere else?” I proposed and tried to cheer her up with a little smile.

“That would be better, yes.” She said after breathing out loudly.

“Only if you can guide me to the apple tree.” I said, but already waved towards my group and made my way towards the girl who had my biology notebook. I had to wait a bit longer for her to finish copying and thus strolled with Isabelle outside.

“So, what’s up?” I asked genuinely interested. She wouldn’t go to these lengths to ask me for a simple favour, would she?

“I think I have a stalker…” She admitted while looking down at the ground. I honestly doubted her words quite a bit, especially she wasn’t the outgoing type who attracted others to her. She looked alright, but not good enough to have a stalker either.

“Have you talked with the teachers about this? That is really serious, you know?” I still asked, even though I knew that wouldn’t solve much. Looking at Hannah’a work schedule, teachers had other stuff to do than to listen to the problems of a fifteen year old girl.

“It’s not that easy … sometimes it feels as if someone is watching me. It’s hard to explain, but sometimes my hairs stand up and I get goosebumps … I’m creeped out Lucy and I don’t know what to do. Every time I look around then there is nobody but … and nobody else is believing me.”

“Hmm … I believe you. Sometimes our subconsciousness realises things we don’t, so there is merit to listen to our emotions. But sometimes they also mislead us so you have to keep that in mind as well. I do think I know a solution to your problem though, no matter if it is just perceived or real. Do you have time right now? I just need to talk with someone and then I’ll have two hours for you.” I explained while strolling beside her towards my next destination. I had already thrown attending my beloved magical combat class out of the window for her at this point.

“I would need to skip class for that.” She explained, but I could hear in her voice she wasn’t exactly worried about that.

“Oh … I could do tomorrow after classes as well.” I proposed just in case.

“No … the sooner the better.” She said and balled her hands into fists. She was seriously worried about her feeling which did make me think there was a bit more to this then I initially thought.

“If you say so …” A little afterwards, we arrived at a rather special apple tree … special in the sense of standing alone on a rather large clearing.

Isabelle waited a little bit in the distance, knowing the unruly idiot lying in the shadow rather well. He should have noticed me as I approached, but he didn’t even open an eye. I looked down towards him, my hands at my waist and nearly kicked him in frustration. That guy troubled me constantly by sticking to me as much as possible, and making my life harder with every choice he made.

“Schwarz … I really worry about you.” I explained and squatted down right next to him. He didn’t have many friends at this academy … one to be exact.  And unsurprisingly, that was me.

“You don’t have to. I’m fine on my own.”

“… Louis told me you stole his sport shoes?”

“Stop babysitting him.” The real question was who I was babysitting. Louis or Schwarz?

“You are well aware I’m not even close to doing that. But it seems I’m the only one who can talk some sense into you which means I am actually babysitting you.” I complained a little annoyed.

“That’s not true.” He pouted unhappily, his eyes still closed shut.

“Schwarz, you keep on missing classes, you don’t get along with anyone except me and you are constantly picking a fight with anyone as if you would need to prove something.” I told him in a rather exhausted voice.

“Because I need to be the strongest.” I would have liked to hit him at this point already, because there was only suffering in trying to be the strongest … for him at least.

“For what? You already are the strongest in the course.“ I was really trying so that his life wouldn’t complicate mine even though I knew that was a pipe dream.

“Lucy, you are weak so you don’t get how close this guy and I really are. If I just rest a few days, he might catch up to me.” For fucks sake … why did these two have to bitch around so much?

“And because of that you push everyone away? I have enough Schwarz. I am constantly mediating between you two and I seriously don’t have the time to do so.”

“Then stop butting in.” How could I do that when they always started their petty fights in front of me? Couldn’t they do it somewhere else out of my sight? That way I could simply ignore them by feigning ignorance.

“I could never. Schwarz, please return his shoes.” And like usual, my words didn’t fit what I thought but that was usually the case for me. At least Schwarz finally relented, opened his eyes and pointed upwards. I followed his indication with my gaze and soon noticed two shoes swung over a branch by connecting their shoelaces together.

“… will you apologise?” I asked even though I already knew the answer. He was the kind of guy who always thought he was in the right, no matter the circumstances. Apologising was out of question from the very beginning.

“I found them on the ground.” Schwarz claimed which was quite the obvious lie.

“Please stop acting like this.” I muttered and closed my eyes for a second. This guy was truly eating up my time as if it was nothing. And I hated it. The more time I spent with him or others like Isabelle, the less time I could fool around with Luna.

“Then stop being against anything I do!” Because everything he did troubled me. Should I encourage him in that case or what?

“I’m not? Schwarz, if I hear you troubled anyone until Friday, I won’t spent time with you.” I was so fed up with it that I simply didn’t know any other way out except through abusing the feelings he had for me. He didn’t take that well though and started to sulk while rolling to the side away from me.

Sighing loudly, I turned my back towards him and walked over to Isabelle once more. It was time for Schwarz to stop troubling me and for him to be at least somewhat useful.

“Sorry for that.” I said looking to the ground embarrassed. Well, my complicated relationship with Schwarz wasn’t exactly a secret, and so she didn’t mind the little discussion I had with him too much.
