Chapter 01, A name's Origin.

Year 56 since Konoha founding. Third Shinobi War, one month after Uzugakure’s destruction.

The team of four ninja was waiting for their mission in the adminitrative tower. Outside, the wind was howling, carrying sand everywhere. People would tend to stay inside, or adjust their clothes to protect their skin. Each grain of sand would sting like a hot needle. Not dangerous. But there were better feelings to have in the dry and windy hidden village.

The jonin gave the team leader a scroll, explaining the mission.

- We need you to track down and kill a small group of smugling slavers. Intelligence believe they will go through the dark snake canyon in less than three days. We can’t have groups like that in our backyard while the war is brewing betwin Konoha, the other villages and us. Dismiss.

Four puffing sandy clouds answered him.

Two days later. Dark Snake Canyon. South-East entry of the Suna Desert.

Kome was poised as the lookout, using his family’s special eyes technique to look faraway. Hidden betwin the rocks, his green flack jacket and black trousers invisibles from caravan’s passage.

He saw the caravan coming toward the canyon with all it’s details, wich he described by hands signs to the rest of his team, hidden in the pass. Six carts, one loaded with provisions and furnitures, the others with metal cages structures and packed with the slaves. Two dozens bandits either driving the carts or surrounding it.

The plan would be simple. After a short time, as the caravan nervously crawled along the canyon, it’s attention was drawn to a rock slide on it’s right. The stones rolling from near the top of the rift, making others fall with it. Noises and it’s echoes loud and making the bandits nervous. It didn’t cause problems as the rocks weren’t big enough to endanger them, but it still caught their attention. No one among them would be foolish enough not to be on guard for the Suna shinobis. One guard didn’t react. It was obviously a coincidence that the rockslide happened the exact moment he was trying to get a leak. His partner’s attention turning from watching his back just for a few seconds. Said partner looked back at him doing his bizness and coming back to his post. He would never know this duplicate would cause their doom.

The real guard was behind a rock. The small injection from the leader’s collection of poisons knocked him out instantly, before he found himself silenced, his hands and feets bonds, as a precaution. Son quickly went through his belongins. Ready to signal an emergency should he find an anomaly. The knife and short sword he had were allready with the duplicate. And he only had a few ryos and a piece of hard bread. Now that the subjugation was done, Son devoted his whole attention to his family signature jutsu. They weren’t as known as the Konoha’s Yamanaka, but they still helped the village to the fullest of their capacities. This bandit group came from the land of waves. Traveling with the slaves they made of everyone caught trying to escape from the now destroyed Uzugakure’s territory. Civilians, off course. Uzu’s ninjas had been slaughtered to the last in the fight. Three villages had to attack together to win against them. Kumo, Iwa and Kusa. They still suffered the consequences. Their losses were in the hundreds. Now, Iwa and Kusa started to spread the word that they were looking for Uzu’s civilians. And they were paying hard ryos for that. Like blood in water, the sharks came lurking. Capturing the seemly endless flow of escapees. The ones they had came by some fishing-boat, around the fire country.

The guard knew that the boss wanted for them next to cross the frountier next to the desert’s end that borded Ameno kuni. Their destination. Iwa’s ninja camp.

Kome kept his surveillance all along the canyon, then in the desert. His leader was able to replace three other guards during the time it took the caravan to reach the desert’s end.

Now, the slavers were camping, resting for the night, before traveling the second half of the Suna desert.

Tonight, they would all die.

The bandit’s boss was resting in his tent. Some poor refugee slave girl laying next to his couch. He allways enjoyed their faces when he forced himself on them. Too bad he couldn’t ruff them up more. Iwa didn’t like their marchendises broken. Men for labor and experimentation. Women for breeding, soft chores, and pleisure. Aristocrates and nobles were willing to pay for them. The country resorted to slavery to pay for the war.

Not more than two days at the speed they had. Then they could go around for another load. They would go through the River country to cut time, now that they didn’t have incriminating cargo with them.

He reached for the bowl of soup one of his men bringed to him. Wetting a piece of hard bread inside to soften it. Then he saw it. A small piece of paper, folded and sealed with wax. What he read made his face red with anger.

Slave-merchant-scumbag Schimba

Atop his couch, in his tent.

Suna desert.

His final resting place.

- Kouri ! He called.

- Yes, boss ?

- Who put this here ? Showing him what was written.

- I.. I don’t know boss. It wasn’t when I brought you food.

- So it just appeared ? Think I’m stupid ? He yealed.

- N. No boss. But I swear I didn’t put it there.

Schimba bursted out of the tent, calling everyone of his guards. Whose nutface thought this would be funny ? Flipping the letter in front of everyone.

None answered. They knew his tantrums.

Schimba finnaly broke the seal. Allowing some of what was inside the letter to flow on the ground. Red sand. The inside of the letter was totally blank. It just contained this ordinary red sand.

- Who pulled this… He never ended his scream.

Four guards were staying at the back of the group. Discreatly, they raised their arms in front of them. Said arm folded unaturaly, leaving an open tube pointed each to a part of the bandits’ group. An iron shower rained on all of them. Maiming, piercing, killing them.

Of the twenty bandits assembled here, eighteen died in less than two seconds. The only survivors their chief and Kouri, who wouldn’t stay alive for long with a huge part of his guts ripped appart.

Four shinobis shunshined in the camp.

Jura used his lance’s tip to slash Kouri’s throat.

Son had allready placed his hand on top of Schimba’s head. His genjutsu trapping his mind for the time being.

- Jura, take the food and everything valuable and place it in the cart. Kome, free the prisonners and see if they need medical care. Son, as soon as you’re finished with him, dispose of him. I want us to cross River country’s border at down.

- We aren’t going back to the village ? Asked Jura.

- Think genin, said the leader. With tensions high betwin us and the leaf, this could help us if we play it right.

A moment later, Kome brought a prisonner to his teamate.

- This one want to talk to you.

- Are you their leader ? Thank you and your shinobis for your help. Your man Kome told us you would help reaching Konoha. May I know your name please ? He asked the young redhead kid in a green chunin jacket in front of him.

- Sasori.
