Chapter 21: Chapter 19:Dungeons! Here I come!

'Good night, Simon Godslayer. How may I serve you today?' asked the monster girl receptionist inside the guild hall directly into my head. 

 Simon felt completely out of place with all the extravagant interiors. In his head, it would look like the outhouse building in his village. Instead, He stood in front of a veritable mansion and his village bones did not want to enter. But he had spent way too much time and effort to just get here and to walk away would be a slap to his pride. He could not even be his normal generous self and reward the cute slime which only added fuel to the fire.

The inside was no better, he had expected the organization that was the lifeblood of new tamers everywhere to be inviting, like a cozy tavern. Instead, it had an oppressive majesty that shouted. 'Behold my Grandeur and kneel!'.

Simon believed that he was not the only one with this opinion because despite being artistically littered with tables and chairs only half a dozen out of the hundred or so available had any people sitting in them. The back of the massive hall had a crowd but there was no hustle or bustle like when he was given his tamer's license, only silent murmurings here and there. He could attribute it to being night-time but at his local tavern, nighttime was when business boomed especially as staying outside at night was very bad for humans on multiple levels.   

When he had initially entered, he wanted to hang around. Now, he wanted to get his shit done and book it. Thankfully the receptionist looked like a twin to the one that served him in the village and was just as inviting.

'I would like an entry pass to the local dungeon, please.'

'Very well, Sir. Would you like to access the crystal available inside the guild hall or one of the discovered ones in the local area?'

'Guildhall, please.'

Simon had read a lot about the massive crystals that housed worlds in them. Rumor had it that the mage's guild imitated the miracle of the dungeon's world as the skeleton for their one space-bending technology. And if one believed the celestial order, it was created by the gods to test and empower the human race. 

What was important at the moment was that the ones inside the guild hall were completely safe and you were never truly at risk of dying. The caveat was that the guild could track all the loot you collected inside the dungeon and had a right to half of it. The only thing they could not touch was the rare and above drops from the monsters and monster girls alike.

Simon could eat that loss quite easily, he still had most of the gold he had got from his fateful encounter.

'Very well. The staff has been notified. Please, take the rightmost door on the left side of the building. Staff will be there momentarily there to assist you.'

'Umm... Can I buy a binding gem?'

'Of what quality and make, Sir?'

'The basic?... What else is there?'

'Since this is not an establishment that specializes in such devices our options are limited. We can give you the basic grey gem at 10 gold, the intermediate white at 50 gold, and the advanced black at 100 gold. We also have one that specialized in the capture of each of the typing available inside the dungeon at 60 gold a piece.'

'Ok... give me four basic ones.' 

He wondered why anybody would go anything above the basic unless it gave some extra benefit after capturing like the one that rich kid used. Why would one use higher-level ones when the basic ones could just be re-used? 

'Sir... You do realize unlike releasing a monster girl If she breaks out of your gem that gem breaks. Additionally, the stronger the monster girl the more resistant she is to the binding magic of the gem.'

Simon blushed in embarrassment. He had not known that was the case for either of the two things.

'Give me an intermediate and three basic please.'

In a blink, there were 5 grey gems and 2 white gems on the counter.

'Miss, you have given me three extra grey gems.'

'That is merely a gift awarded to you for completing the first trial. If you purchase after completing your second trial another reward will be waiting for you.'

'Oh... Ok.'

'Anything else, Sir?'

'No...'

'Have a good rest of your night, sir.'

Simon moved away from the counter only for it to be hogged by someone else almost immediately. Thankfully, everyone gave him a bit of a wide birth and he did not have to wait in line.

His eyes locked on to the massive door that had a stream of tamers going in and out at all times. Some triumphant, others dejected, and everything in between.

He jogged his way to the door and the moment he crossed the threshold a voice called in his head.

'Welcome, First-time delver.'

His stride was immediately stopped as he looked around to see nothing but tamers walking in and out. A small distance away a giant boulder of a crystal floated in the air. Tamers seemed to turn into motes of light and get absorbed into the crystal and in the same fashion ejected out. 

'Do not be alarmed. I am a guide designated for first-time delvers and the helper assigned to you. I will be your one-stop shop for all your dungeon advice!' said the cheerful voice directly into his head.

'Ok?... So what should I need to know for my first delve.'

'There are a thousand minute things that you need to know but none of them will be as helpful as figuring them out for yourself. But if you are the type to memorize a guidebook before every action I will be obliged. If you want me to say nothing and experience it all for yourself that too can be arranged. If you want a basic rundown, that too is possible. Remember, this dungeon is a safe place, you are never truly in danger so you are encouraged to get used to the rigors of dungeon diving yourself.'

Simon's fighting spirit was kindled. He had a powerhouse and he had a lot of second-hand knowledge about dungeons, mostly from all the fictional books he read, and it should be enough.

'I want to go in completely blind!'

 'Very well. Simply go inside the magic circle and touch the gem and you will be teleported inside the dungeon. I wish you the best of luck.'

Simon was ready.
