“Who would have thought I’d see you here? Keke, I haven’t seen your father. Is he alright?”
It was Borg Group’s director general York, who was a former important business associate of the Tadinger Group. He was also a legendary one back in the day, but they eventually parted ways. Notably, his daughter was also with him. She was a sexy and fashionably made-up girl, and she had almost become Jasper’s wife at one point. But in the end, Jasper’s “footloose-ness” had compounded with the groups’ disagreements. Put simply, York would not let his daughter marry a useless creature.
York was indeed surprised to see Jasper here. Access to the Maple Leaf Club was not just something that money could buy. This was a club for the truly successful, not a playground for second generation heirs. Although he had heard that this kid had shown signs of redemption recently, he was still not qualified.
Jasper nodded politely. He was more restrained now. “My father’s health is good. He has been planning a vacation recently, and handed over the management of the family to this incompetent son of his. Ms. Lais, it’s been some time. You are as charming as ever.”
Back then, Jasper being abandoned from the circle had been a topic of no small import. Of course, Jasper did not care back then.
“Keke, the young must swallow their pride and learn. There is a salon on the 17th floor. Shall I introduce some seniors to you? They are all powerful people. You know how much I love to groom youngsters.” York did not think that the cowering boy who had not dared to meet his eyes back then would hold his head high now.”
“I’m waiting for my girlfriend, I won’t impose. Lais, you’re not that young anymore either. Stop playing around with those hooligans all day, and put Uncle’s heart at rest,” Jasper said warmly.
Lais rolled her eyes at Jasper. “Speak for yourself. Your status is becoming worse and worse. Is this fatty your new lackey? Couldn’t find one that resembled a human more?”
“Lais, watch your language. Mr. Yan is an important guest.”
“Guest? This guy with the big head and stubby neck? One look and you know he’s nothing more than a hawker. I thought you had made progress. Clearly, the rumors are not to be believed,” Lais said mockingly.
Yan Xiaosu rubbed his nose. This wench had a mean look. But in truth, Little Lucky Star was indeed a small business.
“Jasper, youngsters cannot be full of themselves just because they have some modest accomplishment. One must be humble, or one will fall.” York’s smile was sanctimonious.
“Old geezer, can you stop putting on airs? And you, with the big eyes and slim waist, what are you trying to do, twisting yourself like that, seduce me? You couldn’t pay me to take her.”
Yan Xiaosu was not as courteous. D*mn the place, sometimes people just climbed all over your head when you were being nice.
At that moment, York was so angry, he could barely breathe. “Guards!”
Maple Leaf’s service was indeed good. Immediately, personnel hurried over, clearly recognizing York.
York’s hands were trembling with anger. “Throw this bastard out. When did this club become such a mess, letting such unsavory characters in!”
A few staff immediately surrounded them. One look at Yan Xiaosu and they knew he was not of Lya Sphinx. Jasper they knew, as a member, but his rank was not high enough. And this fatty looked like his lackey.
“Mr. Jasper, could I invite your subordinate to the recess room to wait? Just to avoid misunderstandings,” the staff said very politely.
Jasper was angry as well. This was on his own head. He had lost face now. He had to make things right. How should he do it?
The other louts crowded up. At this moment, clear laughter interrupted Jasper.
Laurel had arrived.
“Isn’t this Mr. York? What has got you so riled up?” Laurel had come over like a fresh wind. Her rank was on a completely different level.

“Laurel, you’re here.” Jasper smiled and took her hand. “These disdainful bastards.”
Lais was shocked. Laurel was a goddess-level person in their circle. She and Jasper… how could this be possible?
“Mr. York, I feel like you may have made a mistake. Mr. Yan Xiaosu is Mr. Sam Green’s important guest. Your bad manners could besmirch the reputation of our Lya Sphinx. If I were you, this would be a good time to offer an apology, wouldn’t it?” Laurel continued smiling.
The moment he heard “Sam Green,” York started. Actually, they had all heard the news, only no one knew that Sam Green was actually here to meet this unremarkable fatty.
“Keke, a mistake. Lais, let us go.”
But Laurel laughed. “Mr, York, if you leave just like that, how can I ever explain it to these honored guests? Lais is young and immature. Surely you are not also immature.”
This last remark demonstrated Laurel’s queenly aura. Yan Xiaosu stood smiling wordlessly. He had purposely blown up the matter, because he wanted to see the other party’s reaction.
York’s face stiffened. Clearly, many thoughts had flashed across his mind, but he readily smiled. “Mr. Yan, I am so sorry. My daughter is young and immature…”
“Keke, Mr. York, she is old enough to be a mother. But a magnanimous guy like me is very forgiving. We’ll let this matter go. Shoo, shoo, don’t waste my precious time.”
York’s anger was unbelievable. Were these three young b*stards trying to pick a fight? He puffed up, only to realize that Sam Green’s niece had come out… His enraged expression immediately turned genial.
Sam Green was watching this scene from the meeting room. His son, Little Green, was frowning.
Sam Green smiled slightly. “Are you dissatisfied?”
“Father, this person is young and brazen, and has the air of a bully. Setting aside the issue of how qualified he is to talk business, just his upbringing alone is out of the question,” Little Green said mildly. These young heirs had begun to build their own empires, and he had not approved of his father sending his own daughter down to save the situation.
Old Sam laughed. “What do you think of the girl Laurel?”
Little Green was quiet for a beat. “Steady and dependable, a unique eye, and one of the excellent ones among our younger generation at Lya Sphinx.”
“Then why did you not watch her reaction?” Sam Green quietly prompted.
Little Green brooded for a while. Laurel was the unstated leader of the younger generation, and wise to the ways of the world. Logically, a character like Yan Xiaosu should have been someone she would hate to meet. But contrary to that, Laurel’s aggressiveness was completely inconsistent with that logic.
“Father, you mean this Yan Xiaosu is more than meets the eye?”
“You shouldn’t look down on youngsters nowadays. To make Laurel act this way, ability is not enough. It means that Laurel trusts the character of this fatty, and is willing to offend others for his sake. This means that any business with this fatty is dependable.” Sam Green gently knocked the table.
Little Green said no more. He too was a smart man, but age was still experience.
If Tita Star wanted to expand, it must pass the Sam Green family. That was why Laurel had brought Yan Xiaosu and Jasper for a talk. As for success, she had no guarantees either.
She had been worried that the incident downstairs would leave a bad impression on Sam Green, but on the contrary, Sam Green was very welcoming. And Yan Xiaosu’s pitch had no “tricks.” He was open about everything.
This was real art. Against a wily old fox, sometimes honesty was the best policy.
That was why Tyrant Su was also a smart man.
