Chapter 1: Prologue

The sun was directly above him but he didn’t remember how he got there. He stood up to find that he was standing on the surface of an infinite sea, he was not able to see anything but the sky and the ocean below it, but still, he was not scared, but relieved. The boy walked what seems to be ages, until he saw a shadow below the water, when he approached, he saw a mother with her children, talking on the shore with their legs in the water, but the boy then realized that they were upside down.

The sight was very strange, but he liked that place, he could feel tears falling from his eyes while years of memories passed in a matter of seconds until the loud voice from the mother made the entire universe he was seeing tremble in fear and sorrow while she told her sons a story, and the boy listened as well.

“Thousands of years ago, when there was only darkness, a star shined in the void, sending its golden light to every corner of the universe, and the name of this star means Eternity. With its example other five shined and with a wide smile traveled the void, taking their light to the worlds that needed them. One day, they arrived to a blue world where the beings that lived there worshipped them and they loved them back, and lived with them for centuries, teaching them the meaning of their names, but, the eternity did not like this.’

‘One day, a golden star fell from the sky, its light consumed half of the planet, scorching it black, and the beings prayed to their gods, the other stars, and, hesitating, they listened to them. In an attempt to defend their people from the golden star, a great war started. The eternity was offended for the insolence the other showed to her, so she called the scorched beast, the one consumed on the dark half of the world as its arm, and they marched to fight, in the name of the golden star, while the other stars fought alone, as they were the only ones that could stand against the spreading curse.’

‘Thousands of years passed while the stars fought to defend from the endless war the planet that accepted them as visitors and family, and, after a million lives were taken by the rage of a jealous goddess, the star which name means life, learnt that her name also means death while seeing her brothers and sister fell to a dream where their thoughts in words that flew across the blue world, with hopes of being heard someday.’

‘At the end of the war, the golden star revealed her true self, stained by the void in her heart that was growing bigger with each second, the eternity was barely alive, as she cannot die, but she was not alive neither, probably, since the beginning. She was sealed in the lands of the world she hated the most, guarded by the beings that swore to let her sleep forever, while the remaining stars, deadly wounded saw the words of their brothers and sisters fly over the world.’

‘Then, the last of the stars that survived the war, the one which name means life and death, walked the blue planet, looking for her brothers, but she did not find them, still, she never stopped looking, she kept walking, knowing races and people, heroes and villains and legends. Always, with the happy smile that disguised the sadness of her heart.”

After the story was told and the reflection disappeared from the sea, the boy remembered the promise of vengeance of the mother against her children, but they did not want that, the boy knew while the five kids cried and walked away from the tomb of their mother.
