Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Sleepy Evolution and Meeting the Adventuring Party

With its owner still half-asleep, a small cute hand plops on the third option, causing a message about evolution beginning to briefly appear before fading a few seconds later. Bubble squid was hugging the book as they slept as in their dream they were hugging a much smaller fish in the form of a plush made out of bubbles. A system error caused the side effect of accelerating her life by several months.

She would eventually wake up with a blurred look in their eyes, an empty stomach, and a gut feeling that something changed without her accepting it. Swimming towards the nearest reflective surface, she noticed her significantly bigger tentacles measuring 24 cm in length and almost 5 cm thick at the base, longer human arms, a cuter face and far longer hair that reached below her neck and had a wavy pattern.

Bubble squid: *gasp* Is this ME?! I look so cute!

She swims around faster than normal, knocking away some baby salmon in the process. She also found out she measured over half a meter tall (nearly two-thirds if you count the maximum extension of her tentacles). She quickly opened up their status, with pure joy beaming from her face at the possibility of learning bubble magic.

Mana Shaping: The art of forming magic to your will. Allows the user to modify the effects of spells at the cost of control.

Shaking with pure childish excitement, the bubble squid made a loud squeal causing the adventuring party to stop for a moment before searching for its source. She would then climb out of the water and try to think up her first spell, not wanting to fail by creating dozens of bubbles that do nothing.

Bubble squid points her new, larger finger forward, and a small bubble fires out of it, hitting a distant rock which only had a chip flake off at the lackluster impact. Bubble squid felt a tiny bit of their mana be drained, but they ignored it as they began the process of experimenting with their new powers while giggling like a child with no control over their emotions. The adventurers, having been following the noise, returned to last night’s campsite where they saw a strange and slightly shocking sight.

Marvis (The Redshirt): Uhhhh, why the hell is a monster casting magic? And decently at that? Seriously, I am not going crazy here, right? Th-this can't be happening, right? Hey, do any of you know an [Appraisal] spell?

Noob#2: Oh right, I forgot I had that. Silly me, let's check out whatever the stats on this thing is. 

Terra (The Blind): Wait, are you sure it's a good idea? Maybe we should watch it and gather information before charging in?

Terra was silenced by Marvis before Noob#2 used [Appraisal Lv3] on bubble squid, but for some reason the skill failed to respond. They tried a couple more times before giving up in frustration, the noise they just caused drawing their target’s attention. Bubble squid turned around after having finished practicing her [Bubble Magic] (which went up to Level 2, which was pretty cool for her) and she saw four, not tentacle-like squids. Bubble squid's ten tentacles stopped moving as one of them held a miniature dagger.

Bubble Squid(confused): Um, may I ask who you not squids are? 

All of the adventures gasp loudly as they heard a monster talk in the common tongue, before Noob#1, who had almost no health remaining, took out their Axe.

Noob#1: This thing can talk! This thing needs to DIE before it breeds!

Noob#1 would stupidly throw their metal axe at Bubble Squid, who, in shock, quickly ducked before seeing the axe bury itself in a rock behind it. Bubble squid would quickly remove the axe with several of their spare tentacles and get to wield two weapons at once. Terra decided to hide behind a rock while Noob#1 got enraged and charged at the monster in a reckless attempt to get their weapon back and show this weak monster who’s boss.

Marvis (The Redshirt): No, you idiot-

Before he could say anything, Noob#1 would feel their body slam into the ground several times by six tentacles which were rather strong despite their lack of mass. Bubble squid, with no skill, began cutting the man up like a child playing with their toys. Bubble squid had not learned what most emotions are, so they had no expression other than joy that new weird food was gonna be made.

Bubble Squid was unsure how to feel and just used [Butcher] on the body, which turned into tasty cut-up parts of whatever monster or thing this was (Bubble squid gained 12 human ribs, 1 heart, 2 thighs, 2 loins) (All E+ rank). They would proceed to put the chunks of meat and other items into a large wolf pelt bag left by the system, completely oblivious that the adventuring party was gagging, having mixed emotions, and questioning how this monster had a hungry look on their face.

Bubble squid would see two of what are called humans run away and accidentally head to the second floor. Terra sighs as the party left her behind and began walking up to the monster with no fear in them, able to see it as the immature child it was. Bubble squid put their bag on their back and looked at Terra with confusion as she had her weapons put away as well.

Terra: Hey look, my party is really dumb and never listens to me. How about I team up with you and form a party? I could use some assistance from people who aren’t meatheads.

Bubble squid was confused at the sudden offer, unsure as to trust the obvious stranger.

Bubble Squid: I join you? I befriend the lady who no see?

Terra nods before they shake hands, and a party message shines over their heads before disappearing. Marvis noticed their party disbanded which causes him to curse and yell out while Noob#2 was mourning the death of their idiot and partner in crime. Bubble squid and Terra began checking each other's stats, and first is Bubble Squid checking Terra's.
