I thought my conversation with Sophie would be over now that I had a break, but it was not.
She suddenly asked me a question, as if she remembered something.
「Speaking of which, does the dungeon that was discovered …… only have undead appearing in it?」
「How did you know?」
I’m sure I have never told Sophie about the dungeon. I was curious about where she had gotten the information and asked her a question.
「I was near the table where Lars and the others were talking, so I heard you. I’m sorry, I eavesdropped.」
Did you happen to hear about the dungeon while you were serving?
It’s not a secret, so there’s no problem if other people know about it, but Sophie’s interest in the undead is bad.
I’m sure she won’t go there alone, on her own, without permission, but Sophie has some complications. Should I do a little probing to find out what she thinks about the dungeon we’ve discovered? ……
「Well, they will find out about it soon enough and I don’t mind. I’ve only seen undead in the dungeon. Does that bother you?」
Sophie’s voice was stern as she spoke of the undead and she had a look in her eyes as if she were avenging her parents.
If she had the potential to become a saint, her education would have been strict. Perhaps she harbored a hatred that was incomparable to that of a healer who would become an adventurer.
「If Sophie goes, I think it will be much easier to conquer the dungeon, don’t you?」
「There are some circumstances where I can’t go by my own will. ……」
If you know that, then you will be fine for a while. It seems unlikely that the resentment implanted against the undead will cause it to go out of control. I don’t think I need to be alarmed.
「You have ties, don’t you? Well, I’ll help you out if you need anything, just take it easy.」
「Thank you very much. You have a bad mouth, but you’re kind.」
「I don’t want to be “bad”. And I’m not kind.」
I’ve never been told I’m kind, not even by Colette. It might be the first time in my life.
She’s a former Saint, so I guess she feels differently than most people. Sophie seems to believe in the goodness of people, which makes any bad person a good person.
「You’re helping out at the inn. You should develop your eyes to see people a little more carefully.」
There was nothing more to say. I broke off the conversation and resumed washing.
「I have a good eye for people, but ……」
Sophie whispered, but I dared to ignore her.
You never know who you are. You need to work on being a little more calm and open-minded about your surroundings.
