Max had an odd look in his eyes as he gazed at the crest. The feeling he was getting was something very ancient, it reminded him of the time when Bayu was consumed by the Demonic traces residing within him and ended up becoming the Heavenly Commander.
But, there was one difference between the two feelings of back then and the one right now.
Bayu had given him an extremely dangerous feeling. One which almost made him scream in terror. But, this feeling, right here....this person was not a demon, instead it felt like…he was the opposite…
'Someone from the human side, but this ancient feeling..' Max was really surprised. He could only think of one thing at this point, if someone like Bayu could be there, it might be possible for the same to happen in an opposite manner.
'But..why him..' Max raised his head to look at Preston.
He was suspecting this guy's involvement with the enemies, and now this big character had popped up behind Preston.
'I need information on this person..' Max muttered inwardly. This Second Ancestor definitely looked like an ally on the surface, but was that really true?
Bayu was supposed to be an enemy, but wasn't Max working with him side by side.
If enemies can be allies, then the opposite could be true as well.
Max gave the crest one more look before passing it back to Preston.
"I hope you won't mind," Preston politely said. He seemed to be sure that he was now a part of the group, and so were others.
But…it was too soon. After all, the Second Ancestor wasn't the person leading them right now.
"I can understand the request. But, I am the one in command. And, I don't plan on making any changes among the people at commanding level. So, I am sorry." Max sat there with a calm look on his face.
The Second Ancestor might be someone whom the people of the Ancient Families could only look up to. But, Max was not a person of the Ancient Family. Hence, he didn't care.
At this point taking someone, and that too someone like this guy, whom Max was hella suspicious of. There was no way that it was going to happen.
"You should know that it won't end well. People respect him, and won't take lying down if you do something like this." Argus lightly whispered to Max. And, Max understood it as well.
But, he wasn't going to take any risk. These people might have belief in their Second Ancestor, and this douchebag of a guy in front of them. But, Max definitely didn't.
Besides, there definitely wasn't going to be the type of problem that Argus was probably imagining. Max was sure that the news about him disregarding the Second Ancestor won't go out. If anything that would cause trouble, it would probably be another group of people with some other reason.
After all, news regarding the movements of such characters were not easily given out among the common masses.
"I am sorry to say, but do you realize what you are doing?" Preston's tone didn't change, and it still looked like he was trying to warn Max with his best interest at heart. This guy truly knew how to act.
"If anyone has any problem, they can talk to the people who put me in charge of the mission. If there is nothing else..then.." Max gave him a helpless smile as if he had his own circumstances and was forced to do this.
Preston gave him a look, and then looked at all the people present around. Especially at Synthia.
His gaze clearly conveyed his thought, it was to explain common sense to Max, or even they might be dragged into trouble because of it.
But, they all could only helplessly oblige to their tyrant commander. This guy didn't show mercy to a beautiful girl, there was no way that he would show any to them.
In the end, Preston gave Max a look, even though there was a pleasant smile on his face, his eyes were cold.
Max once again felt that tinge of hostile intent.
When Prestron finally left, things turned calm once again.
"That might not have been the best course of action," Synthia finally spoke as she took her seat. She hadn't said anything waiting for Prestron to be thrown out, and now she was talking like this. Her mind and heart were sure working in a different direction.
"Who is the Second Ancestor?" Max asked as he looked at Synthia.
"He is the person who led the generation after the Old Progenitor, and aside from his the Storm family also has the 7th, 11th and 15th Ancestor, and the situation is somewhat similar for the other Families as well." She reported while others just nodded.
"What about the missing numbers?" Max asked as he looked at them.
"They have passed on from one cause or another. Most died from old age due to lack of break through in their levels," Argus replied.
"Anyway, there is no need to pay any attention to these matters. Sir, I would like you to inform the Old Progenitors about this as well. We had a deal between us, and if you create problems for me like this, I can only think that you are being unfair.." Max looked at the Elderly man.
The mission to destroy the Dark Society came with the reward of Slots for the Ancient Cemetery. And, Max was given full control of the mission with the post of the commander, but now some people were trying to interfere with his authority. This definitely didn't seem to be part of their deal.
"I will report it ahead.." The Elderly man nodded.
As for the other guys, they could only look at Max in surprise. They had no idea what kind of deal Max was talking about. After all, for them, there was no mentioned reward, except for fame and prestige.
These definitely left them curious.
"So, where were we…" Max finally shifted his attention back to the topic at hand, "Yes, the operation tonight.."
Max looked at the map of Ocien and the circled the northern district, "We are going to find out what's happening here tonight.."
