Chapter 126: Day 125,

Day 125,

I told Cass to take tomorrow off.  I don’t want either of us cooped up in the library seven days a week.  We’ve got a request system in place, people can deal with it.  We’ll just need to make sure to get back into town early the next day in case anyone from the outskirts was trying to visit the archive while they were in town.

As for myself, I went back to the house hoping to talk to Maiko about the idea of having company over.  However, when I opened the door I was greeted by a pair of glowing orbs hovering above snarling rows of fangs.  I jumped, maybe shouted a bit.  The thing before me dispersed into leaves and laughter carried on a breeze.  Back to the classics it seems.

As I surmised by the nature sprite’s presence, Maiko wasn’t home (if that’s even the right word for her here), nor has she come back yet.  Then again, today’s been surprisingly dry - relatively speaking - so perhaps she took the opportunity to spend a night outside like she’s used to.  I’d know if she was actually in some kind of danger, so I’m not too worried about her.  Well, I assume I’d know anyway; I don’t think I’ve ever actually felt the others in danger myself yet.  Then again I hope never to do so.

So, instead I spent my evening with the sprite for company, doing some housekeeping, getting a headstart on laundry, making dinner, etc.  Well, I tried to anyway; the nature sprite seemed keen on making up for lost time.  Any object I put down would wind up in a different place the moment I took my eyes off it, unseen fingers would run across my neck or grasp at my arm only to vanish as soon as I looked, and noises from the doors would give false indications that Maiko had returned.  I suppose this is its way of saying it missed me?  It’d almost be endearing in a strange way if it weren't both creepy and irritating.

Getting anything done tonight wound up taking far longer than it should have.  I think I’ll be putting this journal under my pillow tonight just in case.
