Everyone keeps telling me that it’s not my fault you’re sick, but I’m apologizing anyway. I’m the one who told you it wasn’t anything to worry about. And I don’t want to hear you telling me I didn’t do anything wrong either so just get better and accept my apology. And don’t bring it up again.
And you are going to get better. Lin says the worst is past, and besides, someone still owes me another adventure.
And don’t worry about the kids. Pat came back in to substitute for you. He’s old and I’m still doing most of the work, but we’re keeping them in line. They keep asking when you’re going to be back. Too bad it probably won’t be before the last day of class.
Get well soon.
In case you couldn’t tell by the notes she and Maiko left for you, Cass came by today to check on you. I hope you don’t mind me asking them to write those. I thought it’d be good for both of you. Cass tries not to show it but she’s been worried about you. I think she blames herself too. She shouldn’t though. It’s more my fault for never thinking to warn you ahead of time about it. Or my dad’s. Or Pat’s. Or the parents that sent their child to school sick with an outsider who obviously couldn’t have caught it before as a teacher.
It’s no one person’s fault. Just an awful series of stupid coincidences that shouldn’t have happened. But they did anyway and now you have to deal with it. But you know what? We’ll get through it. You’ll get through it. Any day now you’re going to be up and walking around and eating the breakfast that Maiko and I made and not even spitting up a little bit of it. And one of these days we’ll be able to look back on this as just another story to reminisce about.
