Day 207,

Morning thought: Shepherds, that’s what Vernon’s parents are.  I was trying to remember back on the solstice and couldn’t recall, and it’d been nagging at the back of my mind ever since.  I wonder if that meant he was out in the outskirts that day?  Or did they come to visit him?

Back at the archive, taking a brief break from work.  I was going to do more examining of the cathedral chant transcripts but remembered I’d told Cass I’d do that with her.  Just as well since I’ve got two more tellings coming up soon and really ought to prep for those instead of waiting until the last minute yet again.

Back home.  Slow day today, which is nice, honestly.  Leaves me a bit unsure what to write about before bed though.  Perhaps a brief note that Maiko joined me on the walk to the Village again this morning and was hiding in the trees, waiting to walk me back in the evening?

Oh, I know.  While I’ve implied it a lot, I don’t think I’ve ever explicitly described the layout of the house.  So, when you first come in from the porch

Actually, easier just to draw it maybe.

On the right, that’s the porch and stairs.  Continuing right to left (in the drawing) is the front door to the open space that is one half kitchen (top of drawing) with a pantry and one half living room with the couch where Maiko sleeps.  At the center of that bifurcation is a hall leading straight to the back door with my bedroom on the left (bottom of drawing), bathroom across the hall next to the back door, and a sort of spare room that I’ve continued the old archivist’s apparent habit of using as storage for whatever I don’t feel like sticking in my closet.  There’s a table in there that I guess could technically give it use as a dining room, but it’s usually covered in books and papers.  I’d had Priscilla’s research notes spread out in there for a while before deciding to hide them, and when Maiko and I had been working on literacy lessons we’d go back and forth between there and the kitchen table.  Most of the time though, that room just sort of goes unused which is why I don’t mention it much.
