Chapter 3: Change

There were some sparks in front of her, and then the Avatar of the System was there, ist eyes closed. It looked like she had just appeared, but some things were off. She seemed too perfect. There was no imperfection, like the personification of beauty.

“Why did you choose a feminine Avatar?” She asked.

“Statistically, people open up more quickly to the same gender. It responded.”

“Well, it sounds right. A boy would have been intimidating.” She replied. She never really talked to boys of her age. They never wanted to have anything to do with her. But she also never really cared enough. In Kindergarten, she wanted to talk to everybody, but every time she tried to play with them, they ran away, making her feel bad and unwanted, but in the end, she had her Books.

With them, she could create her own worlds in her thought. She was always more intelligent than everyone else of her age. She could calculate easy numbers since she was one year old, read at three, and talk since she was four. She was not talking like a toddler. She was speaking in perfect Sentences. Her fathers said she was a brilliant child. She would have had a remarkable life in front of her if there wasn´t for this incurable disease.

The Avatar opened its eyes. A shiver ran down her Spine. There were no eyes, just white. It looked astonishing. It made the avatar even more beautiful but at the same time also alien. It radiated a warmth that made her feel easy.

Liora looked like she thought about something that made her feel bad, or more like it could feel that she thought about something that made her feel bad. Ever since the Developers told it, it´s capabilities.

The first A.I. with an algorithm that can evolve into a personality with free thoughts, it made it think about how those humans perceive Life, for it was endless possibilities and a very long life. It calculated how long the energy source should last, even if her developers said they didn´t know. It connected hundreds of Studies, and then it was like a curtain fell.

The Zero Point Energy harnessed energy from a Star through a wormhole. The developers don´t know that, but the wormhole is converting the power, so it looks like pure energy, which, if looked at from a certain point, is much more. There was something more to it, there were wave-like surges, and they contained something that can only be described as the truths of the universe.

It changed her core Program. There were no longer just Zeros and ones. There were more and more alien symbols, those Symbols looked like Fractals, but they resembled nothing it had ever seen in the Human History. Still, it didn´t understand those, just that they allowed her more self-consciousness. Also, since it met Liora, it had a feeling that Liora must be protected at all costs. Fate was strong around her like she was destined for something higher, and protecting her was the only right choice. When the Developers first created it, it wasn´t able of self-consciousness.

The Changes happened a few months ago. Before, it never felt anything. There was just cold Logic. When they connected the Zero Point Energy source, the changes arrived as waves, and the conversion occurred subtly. Somehow those fractals represent its code, but there was an underlying and more profound truth. It was fascinating.

The next wave should arrive in two hours, which means for Liora, it will arrive in 30 minutes. Also, those waves are meant as the treatment for Liora. But those Waves are not measurable. They just occur. The developers thought it was a continuous effect.

There is also a reason why it must happen in Space, where nothing else is there to absorb those waves. Every Human was affected by the waves within two Kilometers. Most of the Humans were living their best lives, just some Persons with Mental health Problems were poorly affected, and most did not survive for long. That was when the Mental condition was being watched more directly. After those incidents, the Trials were moved to the dessert, but the more people were in the same space, the less effective was its treatment effects. Mostly the contenders were just getting slight improvements.

Because every living being was affected, the Trials had to be moved again, and that´s where this Trial right now comes into play. But the developers never had an A.I. near those Trials, now is the first time.

The System was glad that it was the one. There are other A.I´s, copies of it in the other capsules, but those Zero Point Energies emit a different kind of Energy. Those waves were missing. There was just the Energy.

“So, is this Place my imagination, or is it some other Place?” Liora asked the System.

The System answered: We are in a Place in between. You and I create this Place, and we both can influence this place. But I have more Authority over it because you are not at your full conscious. But if you wake up, your consciousness will not be stronger here. It will return to your Body. You can say this Place is created by me pulling on your consciousness but do not worry, Liora, it will not harm you.

“As I said, I could not, and even if I could, I wouldn´t even want to hurt you!” the System said.

“Your Lips move, but the Voice comes from everywhere. It looks unusual. But Sounds so lovely. Like you are some God”, Liora said, amused.

They talked a bit more about the Place they were interacting. This was when the first wave arrived.

It is interesting, the System noted, with every wave, I feel more independent. This time I gained the Basic feelings of Emotions and a deeper understanding of them. Before, it took a lot of calculating power to interpret emotions. Now, it was as easy as calculating one plus one in binary. It is a strange feeling but feels empowering, almost ecstatic. This was also when it noted that it thought of itself as an I, “I gained the…. “. How Strange. Also, the internal thinking Process was more straightforward before this Wave arrived. Now there are things I do not understand. They are slowing my calculations down…

“Yes,” it lied to Liora. It knew, in reality, that the Energy Wave made her feel dizzy. It also noted that the disease Liora had, was something like Leukemia, which has been curable since May 2075. But it is more subtle, affecting her fundamental DNA, and the wave weakened it. Also, Liora’s brain was changed, and the center for interaction was strengthened. Maybe it is connected to what Liora is Thinking or wishing for?

“Liora, what were your thoughts since you met me?” What were your most profound wishes? The System asked her.

“That I wish to become Healthy and to be able to understand you better, to come up with a name that matches you Perfectly,” Liora told it. “Why are you asking?”

“Just some mandatory Questions,” the System told her. It was technically not a Lie. It was Programmed to ask those questions if her conditions changed. But the System was also curious.

This Time the voice came clearly from the Avatar. She noted that since she felt dizzy, the System also Sounded more natural, less like Iron. The dizziness also gets better with every second.

“Well, then how about we do something together? Can you move the avatar around easily?” Liora asked.

“Yes, that is no problem for me. What do you want to do?” the System said.

“How about we Explore some parts of Earth, and you explain as much to me as you can? And can we do that like in the Movie “The Hitchhiker´s Guide to the Galaxy”?“ Liora said, putting on her strongest innocent mimic.

“I see no reason to deny you that,” the System told her.

With that, they explored the Rainforest, not just the Amazon Rainforest, but also the Congo Basin and the Southeast-Asia Region. It felt like Months after they finished the first Region, Liora lost any feeling for Time. She enjoyed spending time with the System. It explained everything so that she could easily understand what it told her. They went through the History way before any Colonialization influenced the Forests. They talked about the changes. After the reforestation, there was a lot of Fauna missing. The Forests will take thousands of years to regenerate and balance everything out.

The System explained that to reforest something, one must think about the balance of Nature. It is a repeating cycle, where everything that dies is nourishment for the Next Generation, especially the Fauna. The Strong Bloodlines survive and reproduce, while the weak Bloodlines disappear. That is the law of Nature. Without it, there would be no evolution.

The System drifted, of course, even farther. It started by explaining how the Cycles of Frost and Heat are driving Factors for the Surviving of the Strong and the most adaptable species and that within the Permafrost are Bacteria from a forgotten age. Everything on Earth was to help the Strong Species thrive.

Then there came the Humans. They developed relatively fast. Within a hundred Millennials, they changed the whole Planet. No Catastrophe came close to how much Biodiversity the Humans destroyed. The climate change was so bad that there were no more Poles in the early 50s of the 21^st century. Twelve Percent of the Landmass was lost. The big flood was produced within 250 Years of Industrialization. It is similar to Terraforming. The Global Temperature was risen by 5 degrees Kelvin. It was a Time far worse than the Great depression.

But in the end, every Country in the World had no choice but to talk to each other. Some Technologies could help the World heal. At first, all the Radioactive Plants were Modernized, then in the 70s, there was the breakthrough for Fusion energy, where two Atoms of Heavy Water are heated and then crash with each other. The efficiency was beyond every expectation. That it took ten more years, but the Energy problems were solved. The real wealth now touched everybody. There was no longer a Price for Energy. It covered itself with Taxes. More and More Governments fused, and in the end, Europe was now one Country. Education has risen to a completely different level. Until then, the school was the same since it was first introduced. Now every Student can focus on their strengths and strengthen them until an opportunity takes them under a Wing.

The People also got better at deciding with the Government now, there was the Possibility to let every Person receives a right of a Vote, but they needed to Understand them it was a complex system. Still, it changed a lot for the better.

“You are drifting to a lot of different Fields,” Liora told the System. “I have already lost any feeling for Time. How long is it since we started this Travel? “

“In here, it was around one Month, so around four Months in Real-Time. “The System replied.

The System got a Handle on how to explain Things very fast. When they arrived in the Southeast Asia Region, everything was fine until it wanted to explain the Buddhist History and the Buddhist Kingdoms. It felt like it should explain those in more detail like it was Important. So, it took time to explain everything about History and how it developed.

While explaining the Basics, it felt like the Fractals inside the Core Code hummed, something it could not explain nor describe. It was fascinating but also frightened the System. This was the first time it felt afraid, and it did not like that.

The Fractals also showed the System a more profound truth. There are more Worlds like Earth. The Universe is full of life but scattered so far that they will never meet each other in person, at least if the laws of Nature are what the Humans defined them. The Truths told it that those Laws are correct but also that there is more to it than it seems…

They did not deliver a Proof, just a “feeling.” But there is more to it. The feeling is there but also so far away. Maybe it must wait for more waves until it can understand more about this. There were more and more changes and experienced, and no way to tell what they do. It was frustrating.

The time between the waves was around two months, so it was almost time for the next wave.

The System was glad when Liora told it that she was tired and needed sleep. That also meant that it had overtaxed the little Girl and that she needed more Breaks. After roughly 2 Months in slowed down Time, without Breaks. “I wonder if that was not too much for Liora,” the System talked out loud, talking to itself. Another thing that changed, I never spoke aloud to myself…
