Li Yue was still reeling when she logged out of the video conference call.
After collecting herself, she sent her brother another message.
“What do you think of her lectures?”
“They’re all pretty good. I understood everything.”
Li Yue couldn’t help but nod in agreement when she read that.
She thought about it for a while and decided to let her brother weigh in before making any decision.
“Then, did you hear her saying that she’s not a teacher, but a student of a certain school?”
Three dots appeared on the screen, indicating that the boy was typing, but it took a good while before it turned into a message.
“Yes, I heard it.”
Li Yue pressed her lips together. Her younger brother was probably just as shocked as she had been at the time, if not more so.
Otherwise, it wouldn’t have taken him so long to write such a short reply.
Not that she blamed him.
The irony of it was that, despite being proficient in Mathematics herself, Li Yuewas practically incompetent when it came to teaching the subject.
She just couldn’t find the right ways to explain it clearly.
Even now, as a graduating student, she still lacked the skills to organize her knowledge in a manner that would have enabled her to impart it to her brother.
“City A No. 1 High School?” she muttered to herself.
Shortly after, Li Yuereceived a barrage of messages from her brother that openly conveyed his excitement.
“Sis, I think that girl is really amazing!”
“She’s still just a student like me, but she speaks much better than most teachers I have at school.”
“Oh, right. I forgot to tell you. So after finishing the Mathematics class, I went back to my reviewer and looked for similar questions that she covered. Guess what, it took me very little time to solve them, even the more difficult problems! I used to just give up on those questions, you know.”
“Hey, how come I could understand everything she said, but I could never get it when you’re the one teaching me?”
“I’m really curious why I understood her lessons right away, but I always struggle with your tutorial. Is there something wrong with you, or is she just that good?”
“The problem lies in you, of course!” she told him, miffed by his teasing remark.
She put down her phone and took a deep breath. Her brother’s excitement was infectious, and her mind was already racing with the possibilities.
After giving it some thought, she opened a new tab on her computer and looked for the website of City ANo. 1 High School.
Li Yue and her family lived in City F, which was about three hours away fromCity A. All things considered, it wasn’t that great a distance. Going back and forth between two cities would barely be an inconvenience.
Just as she had expected, City ANo. 1 High Schoolwas one of the top ten schools in the province.
So was her brother’s current school, and the two institutions had a lasting rivalry over the years.
But after listening to that girl’s lecture earlier, Li Yuehad to admit thatCity ANo. 1 High Schoolseemed to provide better quality education.
The two schools were neck to neck in provincial rankings not too long ago, and their teachers were more or less peers, so why was there such a stark difference in their students’ aptitude?
Li Yue pondered the matter.
In the end, she surmised that City ANo. 1 High Schoolhad likely employed a brilliant teacher this year, which would explain the sudden improvement in their academic performance.
Unable to sit still, she walked over to the window and gazed at the scenery outside.
Her younger brother was in his third year of high school now— a critical stage for any student with high aspirations.
Unfortunately, his weakness in Mathematics was proving to be a major setback in his quest for higher learning.
They had hired many tutors in the past, and Li Yueherself had tried her hand at teaching him, all to no avail.
The Li familywas understandably worried about the boy’s future.
Now that she had come across such a promising young student who wasn’t only accomplished in math, but seemed to be gifted in teaching as well, she wasn’t willing to let the opportunity pass.
If her brother transferred to City ANo. 1 High Schooland sat in their classes for just a while—just long enough to improve his Math scores—he might finally qualify for the college entrance exams.
Li Yue slapped her thigh and strode out of the room, her face filled with determination.
She got on her bicycle and rushed back home, eager to discuss her plan with her parents. They needed to find a place to stay in City A, after all.
Li Yue had always been an efficient worker.
As soon as she arrived home, she sat her parents down and laid out her proposal, all while booking plane tickets on her phone.
