He sighed and said with much reluctance, “All right. I’ll go and confirm it with my superior first. Please wait here for a moment.”
He headed over to a separate room and called the principal’s secretary, Xiao Liu.
“Hello, Mr. Xiao. I’m calling from the Academic Affairs Office. Are you aware that there is a student here today who wishes to enroll temporarily in our school?
“Well, you see, they want him to be admitted into Yao Tang’s class…”
On the other end, Xiao Liuwas leisurely sipping a special tea thatPrincipal Konghad graciously shared with him.
When he heard mention of Yao Tang, however, he sat up straight and shuddered.
“What? That student wants to transfer to Class 20? Why? Did you ask them for their reasons?”
The director thought back to his discussion with Li Yueand spoke with obvious reluctance.
“Apparently, they have accidentally joined an online remedial lecture Yao Tangconducted for Class 20.”
Xiao Liu’s eyes widened and his jaw dropped.
‘No way! Just because of that?’
“Are you saying that they tracked Yao Tangto our school and immediately flew over to process the transfer?”
“Exactly.”
Xiao Liu took a deep breath and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Do you think they only came here forYao Tang?”
The director was taken aback by the question, but he replied, “I think so, yes.”
Though, to be precise, they had come here for Yao Tang’s teacher, to whom they gave all the credit forYao Tang’s exceptional intelligence.
“And they’re here on the campus right now?”
“Yes.” Then, sensing that there was something amiss in the secretary’s voice, the director added, “The principal has already been notified about the transfer. It’s only a matter of which class to enroll the student in.”
“I see. I’ll have to confer this with Principal Kongfirst. I’ll call you back later.”
Xiao Liu hung up and immediately rushed to the Principal’s Office, business suit and all.
It was nothing short of a hundred-meter sprint, but he didn’t care about his image.
Meanwhile, the director remained rooted to the spot as he listened to the dial tone. He should really put the receiver down, but he couldn’t bring himself to go back into his office and face Li Yueagain.
In another part of the school, Principal Kong was enjoying his tea when his secretary burst into the room.
“Principal! Did you approve a student transfer request?”
“Why, yes, I did.”
Principal Kong picked up his teacup and took a sip. “Ahh, excellent quality,” he murmured.
“Did you know that the transfer is only temporary?” Xiao Liuasked frantically.”Of course. This only shows that ourNo. 1 High Schoolis ultimately better than the one they have inCity F. They must have been impressed by our teachers’ repertoire. Well, it’s only natural, I suppose.”
Principal Kong beamed with pride at his own words.
With their long history of rivalry with City FNo. 1 High School, this certainly counted as a victory.
After all, at least one family had preferred to have their child transferred over in the middle of the school year.
Xiao Liu’s face twisted miserably, and he heaved a long sigh. “But did you know that they are here for Yao Tang? They want the transfer student to be in the same class as her.”
His voice was laced with helpless defeat.
Principal Kong’s jovial attitude instantly turned into panic. He banged a fist on his desk and glared at the other man.
“What did you say? Is Yao Tangrelated to them? I thought they came here because they were impressed by our teachers’ skills?”
What the hell was going on?
Xiao Liu sighed yet again. “It’s like this, Sir. They happened uponYao Tang’s remedial class online and found it very interesting. So much so that they wasted no time coming over…”
