He had grown up in Beijing all these years. He should know more about these roads compared to Yao Tang. He snuck a glance at her.
Yet, she knew about the open space without having seen this road before.
How could he not know about this?
Was she making stuff up?
He took another glance at her, but he grew even more confused upon seeing her calm face. She didn’t look like the type who’d just make stuff up on the go, right?
He took out his phone.
However, just as he was about to search for more information, he received a notification. It seemed that he had lost his signal.
Not only could he not make a phone call, but he also couldn’t confirm Yao Tang’s thoughts.
“What’s going on?”
Tan Jian stuck his phone out the window and glanced around. His eyebrows were furrowed as his phone continued to receive the same notification. “Where are we?” He arched his eyebrow. “You aren’t selling us out, are you, Mr. Wang?”
He joked.
Mr. Wang, who was steering the car, chuckled. “I would never do such a thing,” he said with a smile. “Besides, if something were to happen to you, how will I face my bosses?”
Tan Jian laughed.
It was obvious that his passengers stil didn’t notice a thing.
“President Tan, I think the signal tower isn’t working again,” he quickly explained. “But we’re almost there anyway, so it would be fine.”
“Hm.”
Tan Jian glanced out the window, before shaking his head. “Tangtang, I’m guessing your phone also lost its signal?” he asked. “Besides, how did you know there was an open space at the front?”
Although Tan Jian didn’t get to eat at the banquet, he was already looking forward to all the delicious food he’d ordered once he returned.
What he didn’t expect was for Yao Tang to shake her head. “My phone still has a signal.”
“What?” His eyes widened. “How?”
“My phone’s pretty advanced.”
Chauffeur Wang inadvertently loosened his grip on his steering wheel, and he almost slid to the side. His hands were frozen.
Just as he was turning a corner, he almost hit a tree by the roadside.
Fortunately, the driver slammed his foot on the brakes on time.
Tan Jian hit the back seat of the driver’s car. He gritted his teeth in pain. Even President Tan, who was dozing off, had been awakened.
“What the hell?” President Tan shouted.
How could this driver make such a low-level mistake?
Chauffeur Wang got out of the car almost immediately and went back to check on the three of them. Yao Tang and Tan Jian, who were at the back, were still fine. They didn’t look like they suffered from any injuries.
President Tan had only hit the car window, and he sustained a small scratch on his head.
“I’m sorry,” he exclaimed. “I’m really sorry. I shouldn’t have done this…Mis Yao, you’re okay? Are you hurt?” He quickly opened the door by Yao Tang’s side, pursing his lips.
“I’m fine.”
After saying this, she continued to browse through all the contents on her phone. Her expression remained indifferent to those around her.
“Miss Yao, your phone looks so cute,” he complimented, taking another step toward her. “I’ve always wanted to buy a phone for my daughter. What brand is it? Your phone must be pretty good for it to still have a signal.”
He tried to glance at her phone screen to see what she was doing.
“It’s a counterfeit.”
His eyes turned cold. “Miss Yao, have you been here before?” he asked. “You seem to be quite familiar with this place.”
