Chapter 3: With a convoy

I’m not sure I could survive the cold nights. I need to get some fast money. Back to the adventure’s guild, I guess.

Anas started to browse the available jobs, as a level 1, they are usually things that can be done without fighting. But unfortunately for Anas, he is illiterate.

 With some help, Anas was able to find his first task. Find a lost cat, last seen at the marketplace. It pays 30 Mals. Enough to get a roof over his head and food for a night.

Who knew cats were this good at hiding. But at least, I completed the task. Anas thought, watching his first sunset at the new world.

The next morning, Anas was woken up by the clerk upon his request.

 It wasn't much time after dawn when Anas opened the shop.

Running a shop wasn't as easy as he thought.

 

Anas was overwhelmed by all of it, in addition to worrying about his family.

"Do you have food with vitamin C?" Someone asked.

"Strawberries, lemons, and oranges. Choose what you like." Anas answered.

The man bought some fruits, thanked Anas, and left.

That man was nice. Wait, what? Vitamin C? How does he know about it? Could he also be from my world?

 

Anas sprinted after the man, leaving the shop without a person to run it.

 

"Hey! May I know where you learned about vitamin C?"

 

"My doctor recommended it for me. He told me about what food I should get but I completely forgot."

 

"And who is your doctor?" 

 

"It's doctor Asem. You can find him in the capital. He's famous. Just ask about him and you will find him."

Anas walked back to the shop. Rather slowly. Puzzled out by the matter.

 

A week passed by. And the merchant went to meet Anas holding a baby in his hand.

 

"Here's your final pay. Thanks for taking care of the shop. Here, meet my newborn, Anas."

 

"You named him after me?" Said Anas, gazing at the calmly sleeping baby.

 

"Yeah, I want him to be as strong as you!"

 

"Naming him will cause him to be strong?"

 

"Clearly not. It's just our country's tradition to name a baby after the person you want them to be like. That's why in the last 10 years the most common baby's name is Sakr."

 

"Is Sakr a famous knight or something?"

 

"What? Do you live under a rock? The mighty Sakr. Ruler of Antkam. That man in just 15 years of ruling made his country the richest, strongest, and most important country in the continent. It's said he never lost a duel, too."

 

"He must be strong. Anyway, do you know how can I get to the capital?"

 

"Your best and most affordable way. Technically free. Is to offer a convoy going there to guard them. You may even get paid."

 

And that's what Anas did, except for the part of getting paid.

 

The trip took 4 days.

 

 At the end of it, was a huge brick wall surrounding the enormous city, and a wooden gate so big that it could fit a few elephants at once, stood fully armored guards keeping watch of who is getting in and out.

 

When it was the turn for Anas to get in, a guard stopped him.

 

"Permit." Said the guard.

 

Yeah, I forgot about that.
