When Asui entered Kali's bedroom, she noticed one thing about the room. Empty…. It was not empty in the way of proper furnishings, but the walls and the tops of tables, there were no decorations at all. It did not look like a young girl's bedroom. There was a bed, a nightstand, a desk, a dresser, and a small bookshelf that contained some books. The only other item in the room was a picture frame that sat on the nightstand. It was a picture of Kali and All Might. In the picture, the two were standing together, holding up a piece of paper. When Asui saw what that paper was, she almost cried right there on the spot. It was the adoption paper that proved the two were now a proper family.
"Probably not what you would have thought, huh?" Kali asked as she turned and looked at Asui. "I am not one for decorations. I see no meaning in spending money on things that will just grow covered in dust. I would prefer to save that money to do things that were much more important or in times of emergency. You never know when you will lose everything."
Asui was quiet. She was afraid to open her mouth. If she did, the pain she felt for Kali, who had grown up with nothing until she met All Might, would burst out of her. Kali looked at Asui and shook her head before pulling her squishy into her arms, hugging her. "Why do you look like you want to cry?"
"How could I not?" Asui asked back as she rested her forehead on Kali's chest, pouting slightly. "I can't help but think of you as a little girl running around the streets fending for yourself. It just makes me tear up…. But at the same time, I am glad you were able to meet someone like All Might who was willing to take you in, raise you and treat you like his real daughter."
"The shitty old man is weird, but he is a very good man. Well, I guess that is a given as he is the number one hero." Kali said with a smile as she stepped back and took Asui's hand, and pulled her to the bed. She sat Asui down before climbing on the bed herself and positioned herself so that her legs were on either side of Asui and hugged her from behind. Asui probably did not realize it herself, but she leaned back into Kali's embrace as if it was the most natural thing to do.
Kali smiled and pressed her cheek against Asui's. "I once had a family, you know. But when I was five, I was thrown away. I lived on the streets fending for myself, doing what I had to survive. Of course, I never went too far unless someone was evil. On that day…. In the midst of the destroyed section of the city, I met the shitty old man who was almost about to die. I guess his enemy was truly powerful. At least, I think he was. He flew through the air quite nicely."
Asui had a lot to say at Kali's nonchalant rendition of how she met All Might while casually telling her she beat up someone All Might could not. While she was curious about all the details, she decided to hold back and closed her eyes while listening to Kali's words.
"It was from that day that I kind of attached myself to the shitty old man. But I can say for sure that I am glad I did. I got to understand what a loving parent was truly like. I got to understand what a normal life was like. I also got to know what it was like to go to school with other people. And finally, I got to understand what having a friend was like." Kali rubbed her cheek against Asui's with a blissful smile. "And I found out what it is like to squishy."
Asui let out a laugh while pushing Kali's face away. She wondered why this friend of hers always said strange things. Asui pushed her head back against Kali as she spoke. "I grew up with my parents always working, so I had to take care of my siblings. So until recently, I never had much time for the after school outings. If you combine that with how I speak so bluntly and my weird eyes, I end up having a hard time making friends, especially when I was younger. Normally people keep a distance from me so when you suddenly came up and hugged me that day I was really stunned but also happy. But at the same time, I was kind of weirded out. You came out of nowhere pushing your cheek on my face."
"Haha! I just couldn't help it. You were small and cute with squishy cheeks." Kali said with a smile.

Asui blushed and pursed her lips. "Anyway…. The day we met at the arcade and how you still acted so friendly with me made me realize that not everyone finds me creepy. And when you went out of your way to save my sister, I knew then and there that you were someone who was worth being friends with. Someone I could trust."
Asui turned her head to look at Kali. But she had forgotten that Kali's face was up against hers and now they were both staring each other in the eyes, their lips…. Touching…
