The next morning, Tang Zhi went down to the canteen for breakfast with her backpack on.
Sun Yutong had already arrived. Upon seeing her, he greeted, “Over here.”
Tang Zhi straightened her clothes and walked over.
“Good morning.”
When she spoke, she realized that her voice was a little hoarse.
Sun Yutong looked at her. “You didn’t rest well last night? But the conditions here aren’t as good as in Rong City, so everyone is a bit unused to it.”
Well, she did not sleep well last night, but not because of that.
“I’m fine. We’re going to the public welfare primary school later, right?”
Sun Yutong nodded. “Yes, we’ve contacted the school. The situation here is suitable for everyone to do research.”
“Alright, I understand.”
Tang Zhi drank a mouthful of hot porridge to moisten her throat. She quickly finished the simple breakfast. Seeing that Sun Yutong’s bowl was empty, she slung her backpack over her right shoulder.
He stood up and said, “Let’s go then.”
The public welfare primary school in the town wasn’t far from the hostel. Tang Zhi and Sun Yutong arrived very quickly.
They were probably already given a heads up, so after Sun Yutong explained their intentions, they were welcomed inside.
It was a two-story school building with two short houses next to it. The cement field was the size of a basketball court. At both ends of the field were two basketball hoops.
It wasn’t much, but it wasn’t shabby either.
“Thank you for coming all the way here. Thanks to everyone’s help these past two years, the children were able to learn without impediment.”
In the office, the fifty-year-old principal shook hands with them gratefully.
Tang Zhi saw the sincerity in his eyes.
She casually glanced at the office. It was very simple. The desk was filled with homework and textbooks.
“You’re too courteous. We’re just students. We came with the school to take a look. We’re not the ones who are really helping these children. The warm-hearted civilians are the ones.”
Sun Yutong felt a little embarrassed.
“I know, I know. Are you students from the psychology department of Rong University?” The principal suddenly felt a little emotional.
Sun Yutong nodded. “Yes.”
“Rong University…” The old principal’s gaze appeared dazed as if he was reminiscing something.” It’s been so many years.”
Tang Zhi suddenly asked, “You also graduated from Rong University?”
The old principal came back to his senses and shook his head. “It’s all in the past.”
Sun Yutong was a little shocked. He didn’t expect that the principal of a school in a small town like this also graduated from Rong University.
The old principal said, “You weren’t the only ones who called yesterday. There are others who haven’t arrived yet. Are you waiting for them to come along or are you going to visit the children first?”
Sun Yutong understood that they were probably from Team Two.
This public welfare primary school was in town and there were many students. He was not surprised that Team Two chose this place.
After thinking for a while, he said, “Then let’s wait for them. The school still has classes, so it’s not good for us to disturb them too many times.”
The old principal smiled and replied, “Okay, okay.”
“I don’t have anything here to entertain you young people with. These wild tea leaves were picked by the children on the mountain. Try them.”
The old principal took a packet of old tea leaves wrapped in oiled paper from the cupboard, brewed it himself, and handed it to the two.
Tang Zhi took the tea and thanked him.
The tea tasted a little bitter in her mouth and the taste was very strong. It wasn’t something she liked, but she still finished it without showing her distaste.
When the old principal saw this, he smiled warmly and said, “Are you not used to it?”
“When I first came here, I wasn’t used to drinking it either. But after drinking it for decades, I can’t drink any other tea now.”
