How long has it been.

Hours?

Days?

I don’t know.

I guess the void somehow made me indifferent towards the unchanging.

Huh.

You know, it actually wouldn’t have been such a problem if it wasn’t so boring.

I tried and looked into everything that this room had.

For all its magnificents and beauty, after a while it stopped matering to me.

You could say that for a split moment I kinda went insane.

The only one who I could talk to was myself.

That’s probably the reason for my personality disorder.

You know, I could actually never truly do here anything else exept for eating, drinking, sleeping, and walking in the room aimlessly.

The library? Well, all of my knowledge in linguistics was practically useless here.

I tried reading them, but none of the symbols made any sense.

That actually hurt my Olympic champion pride a little.

In anger, I think I even through it into the fire.

Did it burn? Yes.

Was it gone? Somehow, like the food, it did not.

I found the same book back at it’s place.

The same situation was with every other book.

EVERY OTHER BOOK.

I couldn’t understand them.

I couldn’t destroy them. I couldn’t do anything.

And even if I did, I would still find them on their shelves.

Hah.

I then lit the entire shelf on fire.

I lit one book, and put it on in the shelve.

In just a few moments, the entire library was set on fire.

Then, just as quick it has appeared, the flame faded.

And nothing indicated that a fire has broken out.

Then I made all kinds of shit.

I destroyed the dining table, I was throwing food around like a mad man.

I was constantly screaming out for someone.

I had hope, that sooner or later, if I made enough of a commotion, someone would appear before me.

I wanted something to happen.

Something new.

Because if I compare this place compared to the void, I really prefer the void to this place.

Because there I was at least surrounded by darkness, and I didn’t feel any hunger or thirst for a long time.

Here, I do.

And after trying out everything, all of it just became a burden.

Sigh.

<<Äm Broo's, you have read this thing for so long. Can any of you please at least explain to me what the f*ck these signs are supposed to mean?>>

-<<IIII WILLLLLL STIIIILLLLLLL BEEEEE HEEEERRREEEEE EVVVEEEEEEEENNN AFFFTTEEEEEERRRRR YOUUUUUUU FEEEEEEEDDDDD MEEEEEEEEEE.>>>

sigh.

...

I still haven’t given up hope.

Maybe I was doing something wrong here?

Maybe I should try remembering the languages that I already know, and connect them to the language that was being used in the book?

You are reading story The Changer of Ways at novel35.com

Nope.

Still nothing.

I couldn't connect this language to any known language. Neither English, French, German, Latin, Greek, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Egyptian Hieroglyphics, Arabic, Bahasa or Devona...

\Hehehe\

And yes, I did not make that last part up.

\Hihihehe\

Ok, is someone laughing?

\ahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha\

Do I have a new personality now?

Then who is laughing?

I started looking around, trying to find the source of the dark and sinister laughter. I somehow had a feeling it did not belong to this place. At least not in this place. For a split moment, I was happy. But then, not. It was strange. For the longest time that I remember, I wanted change. And now that change was coming, I no longer wished for it.

This laughing. It was scaring me.

For some reason, all of my other Kaidos have shut up. I heard nothing but this laughter.

And that's when it dawned me, that the golden, majestic, unchanging, and unchallenged place started to change. The room became far greyer. The gold changed to this pale and hollow grey.

Then, all images on the paintings started losing colour. What was once a beautiful piece of art disappeared without a trace.

All what remained in there was emptiness.

The sinister laughing was constantly intensifying. With each laugh becoming more of a shriek than a laughter.

Suddenly, I don't know why, but I wanted to look at the emptiness of the paintings.

And I went to the one closest to me.

This painting was once depicting a beautiful sunset that was slowly rising from the water.

No, there was nothing but darkness.

I stared at the darkness.

And then, the laughter stopped.

And with it, the hollow darkness inside them started changing as well.

Why did I decide to look inside the paintings?

Why?

Who thought this was a smart idea?

Because I did not wish to see what I was seeing.

None of you would want to see this.

The painting was no longer just an image.

It was more like a movie.

But the strangest part about it was that I was seeing, well, myself.

I did not know how I knew this. I could not explain what made myself so sure that this dying, bruised and bloodied guy was me.

I knew that this was me. I saw myself chained to some dark pillar in the middle of a small island.

Surrounded by what looked like the infinite rampaging ocean.

This me was screaming.

I couldn't hear him scream, but he was screaming.

And the reason was because of a giant golden bird in front of him.

The bird itself was terrifying and beautiful at the same time.

Its metal carcass shining under the light of the sun.

And the wings. These god damn wings.

The wings could only be described as a collection of metal wealth. The feathers ranged from gold to rubies, silver and emerald. Every metal that I had ever seen in my life was present on the bird’s wings. These wings were so beautiful.

Beautiful... and deadly

I didn't even realise when the golden bird raised it's one wing.

I didn't see how it used that same wing to behead this other me.

And only now did I see it turn its head towards me.

It stared at me like a hunter that found itself a new prey.

And I could see it slightly smirking as it started to approach me.
