Location: Hadran’s Blockage – Western Realm – Imperial soldiers and mercenaries alongside soldiers of the Church are sent to take down a vampiric army that had sided with a necromancer to revive a dying demon lord and his army.

70,000 dead, 100,000 injured, unknown missing.

After the battle it was branded the name “Calath,” or old imperial language for “The bastardized coast,” or “Bloody Hadran,” or simply by members of the Church “Cruentous,” or better translated as “the bastard blockage.”

Sighing, the man stepped forward. Blood was drenched over his body. It dyed the almost ghostly pale skin of his hands a sickly pink. Wiping his hand against his black jacket, he began to mutter angrily. Raising his hand, he put it out to his side.

“Is it still there?” He asked, his gaze keeping forward.

“Yes, your holiness,” a soldier said from behind him. The man shuddered slightly at the voice of the man.

His eyes were blue. But not in the traditional sense. Like vines veins popped around his eyes. These blue tentacles clad themselves over his eyes. Deeper in his eyes, the vines wrapped themselves around his eyeballs. Despite this being a side effect of receiving the blessing of an angle, the soldier still couldn’t help but feel terrified upon seeing these unnatural blue orbs.

Placing his hands to his sides, the soldier and another stepped forward to help the man forward.

“Who knew demon blood was so hard to get off!” the man joked. The two gave awkward chuckles as they tried to dance around the corpses of the demons. The clattering of armour came down the track ahead. Stopping, the man who possessed this armour bowed his head to the blue eyes man.

“My lord, the demon lord has been captured,” he reported. A large smile curled onto their lips of the man. Escorting him forward, the men continued to gag as they stared over the rotting corpses of the dead and dammed.

As the men manoeuvred skillfully around the bodies, the blind man simply stepped through them. Maybe if he could see the disgusting sight, he might have been different in his actions, but the men stayed silent. All new that to speak out of line to a man personally blessed by an angle was blasphemy by itself.

For a while they walked in silence, the blind man seemingly almost leading the way as an excited grin was just kept at bay from invading his lips. Coming into an opening, the blind man stopped. Causing the others to do the same.

“What is this?” he asked, and the armoured man came forward.

“We have arrived at the demon my lord,” Upon a hill of broken and bloody bodies, wrapped in blessed blue iron chains, the demon lay.

“My, speak about the blind leading the blind,” the deep, echoing voice of the demon hammered onto the soldiers.

Some kneeled due to the pressure of some unseen power, while others fainted and fell. Yet the blind man stood. Placing his hand onto his side, he felt his belt. Moving his hand around the belt, he gripped a small black box. Clicking it off the leather belt, he ran his hands over the covering. When finding the small latch to open it, he clicked it open.

Taking out a small syringe, he began to carefully walk toward the demon.

“YOU DARE BIND A GOD?” the voice roared.

“You are not a god, that is why you were so easily defeated. And what god relies on rotting corpses that refuse to stay in the ground,” the man said, his tone shifting as he continued forward.

“HOW!”

“My name is Makarios. Makarios Black-Quill,” the man used his foot to tap and lead his way around the body until he reached the arm of the demon. Running his hand over the muscle, he found a vein.

“Excuse me, your holiness? That is not safe!” one of the soldiers said, watching as they placed the needle in the vein before slowly driving it inside.

The demon roared as the soldiers and priests stood or tumbled back. Taking the needle from the arm, he had the blessed blue glass filled with blooded redder than red. A red that glowed with demonic darkness. Moving back, he carefully climbed onto the twenty-foot-tall beast. With a growl that shook the ground, the demon raised its gaze to stare at Markarious.

“What do you plan mortal? You dog of the heavens,” the beast chuckled at its insults.

“I have a hypothesis,” Markarious began, “Since being infused with the power of an angle, I have proven my worth to the God of light and the Church. But this comes at a cost. More magic of an angle that flows through me, the more my body becomes infected by this so-called blessing,”

He walked over to the head of the demon.

“If the power of the gods makes me blind, and it slowly takes over my body, how long do I have to live as a human? I am the last of my family, and there is a woman I have found. A woman I love above all. With her intelligence and my power, we could go so far,”

Rolling up his sleeve, he placed the tip of the syringe against his forearm.

“But how could I do this if I am dead? So, what if I have the powers of an angle, I will slowly rot until I am nothing more than one of those ‘courses of god’ that line the monasteries of the Empire’s Church? But this is my hypothesis, the perfect balance. The balance between an angel and demon,”

Pressing on the syringe, he forced the demon blood into his vines. His arm pulsed red as the magic of the angle in his blood rushed to halt the invader.

“YOUR HOLINESS?” A man screamed as the arm of Markarious glowed a bright emerald green.

“You see, there is an angle that dwells in me, thanks to this so-called blessing by the church. Since the angle has no physical body, its soul is within me. I believe this gives me its full power. Now then, let's see if the same is for you!” he roared as the blue and red battled across his body. Light of the angle and red of the demon burst through his veins as he fell to his knees.

His body convulsed as the battling red, and blue left his flesh until it was only in his veins. The ground cracked as waves of unseen force blew every soldier off their feet and onto their backs. None were left standing as swirls of energy surrounded him. Twinkles of fear were even starting to form in the eyes of the demon as it tried to fight against its chains.

Usually, when a demon died it is sent back to hell until it was strong enough to return, yet the dreaded feeling of that not happening began to form in its black heart.  What sounded like lightning crackled from his flesh as he fell fully onto the chest of the beast. Panting, he began to blink. This… was the first time he had done so in years. A tear rolled down his cheek as he squinted.

The blessed blood and the cursed blood were now mixed. But there was only one step left. Standing, he looked over the demon. He took time to stare at the red flesh, before allowing his gaze to look down onto his hands. There was no time for this. Strolling forward, he knelt by the head of the beast. Placing his hands against the face of the demon, he stared it in the eyes.

“If your body is destroyed then you return to hell. But since your blood is now part of me, I wonder if your soul will stay,” he said with a smirk as a mixture of blue and red flames engulfed the head of the demon. With a guttural growl, the demon screamed as Markarious kept his hands firmly onto the head. Moving his hands up, he placed his thumbs onto its eyes.

Squeezing down, they stared at the flames as the demon roared louder. The leaves on the trees withered and fell as the ground cracked and shuddered at the roar. Silence. Like magic silence came as the beast became silent. Standing, the black and red blood of the demon on his hands, Markarious Black-Quill looked to the sky.

The blue that held the eyes was gone, now replaced by a deep emerald. The vine-like strands that engulfed his eyes had crumbled as he blinked. For a while, he did this, before turning and looking back to the soldiers. They cowered, none knowing fully what to do. Smiling, he lifted his hand.

“Stay still, this will only hurt a little bit… I think,” Green flames flooded from his hand and over the soldiers. Screams and begging filled the air as the flames swallowed the soldiers. As the flames dulled, he looked to the sky. His mind wandered to his wife-to-be.

“What should call my first Child?” he wondered out loud.

“Charlie? That could be good?” he continued.

“That is more of a third child name,” the soft voice of a woman said. Turning, he saw his wife walk out from behind a tree. She had a long sparing sword in her hand. Blood stained her black dress as a body fell to the floor next to her.

“Good to see you, darling,” he said with the largest smile he had ever given. For the first time in two years, he could see his wife.

“My, you look stunning!” she said, leaping over the dead and dying to get to his side.

“And you look a little mischievous. Suggesting we may have three kids, how naughty,” he said, walking to her and placing a soft kiss on her lips. Her long blond locks pressed against him as she cuddled against his chest.

“But before that, I say we make a bit of a name for ourselves in this world,” he said, a grin forming as she looked just as excited.

“What would you have in mind?” she began.

“Let’s go to the southern realm, raid the land a little there, then we can see where we do from there,” he said as he looked back across the battlefield. First, he was going to have to spin today as if he was the only survivor. Next was to invent a story about how his eyes were a blessing from the angles as a reward for killing a demon.

Once given the reward money by the church, he would convince them to provide him with land in the Western Realm. Smiling, he could barely wait. His family were pirates in the past, and once again he will pick up their creed as he planned to become a pirate for the Empire. This meant that he would attack amazon ships and the ships of enemies of the Empire.

His payment would be whatever he found on board. But then again, what exactly could go wrong if a few imperial merchant ships just happened to disappear in the area? It must have been the Amazon, right? And all loot recovered, well that just happened to fall into his hands once he defeated said amazon ship.

The eyes of the demon widened. Sitting up, he looked around. It no longer was on the battlefield. Upon a hill sat a throne.

“W…Where am I?” The deep voice said, looking to see a figure upon the throne.

“If I knew that, we wouldn’t be here,” the softer voice from the hill replied.

“T…That human!” the demon roared, the emerald grass shaking as the ground cracked.

“My, so he has gotten you to?” the softer voice said smugly. Turning its gaze upwards, the demon stared at the angle.

“I see, so you are the angle in his blood now?”

“And you are the demon?”

They both smirked, somewhat impressed but still furious, at how a mere human had tamed them.
