Asher was seated on a bench at the front of the convenience store. He was wearing a long black coat with his arms crossed resting his chin on top of his crossed arms. He sat there silently watching the women and children running past. His hands started to shake causing the metal ring attached to his middle finger to slightly clink.

His mind drifted back to his memories from his childhood. Memories that seemed so distant to him now, and yet so vivid. He was born in a small town just outside of the kingdom called Doma.He was a kind little boy with soft features with hazel eyes; not as bright like some, but still beautiful.

Ash’s mother was quite young as well ruled the small town as queen after his father died. But even before he could remember her, Ash knew she loved him dearly and treated him like an only child. She was constantly by his side helping him grow up. When Ash’s father came into their lives Ash knew they would get along very well.

One day his sister was gone and he never saw her again, the queen mother never said anything about where she went. All he heard was that she wasn’t around anymore. The queen told him to be brave and that everything would work out, but when it didn’t, he began to cry. His mother tried to comfort him, tell him everything was going to be okay and they would get better someday. But all Ash wanted was answers.

He knew deep down something bad had happened and he wanted to find out what it was. He knew his mother would not give him answers, but he never told him the truth. She refused to look his son in the eye. It hurt him to the point that he couldn’t trust her anymore, but Ash understood there was a secret.

Asher did nothing wrong after all. He spent the rest of his life learning how to fight, study magic, and do any job needed for his kingdom. When he finally grew tall enough he decided to go adventuring. There was nothing more amazing than traveling across the land. So many wonderful things he came across and met incredible people.

He blinked and looked away from his surroundings to focus on his friend, "yeah yeah I'm fine." Unity narrowed his eyes slightly and sighed, "look Asher, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but I worry about you. You seem really lost and sad lately."

Ash nodded, "I know, but I promise I'm fine Unity, honestly. Nothing is wrong." He smiled and grabbed one of Unity's hands, giving it a light squeeze. He felt a surge of relief when his friend gave his hand a slight squeeze back.

"Where the hell did you get that thing?!" She shouted.

"It was left on my bed when I woke up why?" He asked.

"Well the last thing we need right now is a dead body on our hands!" She exclaimed.

Asher groaned. How had this conversation gotten so heated already? He looked around to see what the commotion was about, then noticed that it was all coming from a group of kids walking by.

They were whispering amongst themselves but quickly stopped talking and staring at him when he locked eyes with them. He raised an eyebrow at them as he returned their stare. Suddenly, the whispers broke out into loud laughter. He glared at them then continued on his way without another word. When he turned the corner he stopped suddenly and stared.

“Leave the damn thing at home next time!” Unity shouted.

“What if I need to fight?!” Asher argued.

One of the kids from the group came gazing at the two constantly before Ash noticed. The boys eyes were blank with no emotion carrying a smile on his face.

“Are you Ash?” He asked.

“Who wants to know?” Ash replied. He pulled out his blade and pointed the tip at the boys face. “You best move before I run your head through like a meat cleaver, kid.” The boy laughed quietly and took a step back looking frightened as Ash prepared himself.

He pulled a letter wrapped around something heavy. He held it up and handed it to Asher who looked confused at first until he realized what it was. The letter was from his mom. It was addressed to him but was addressed to ‘Ash,’ and he had no idea who she meant. He ripped open the envelope and found the letter inside.

A rainbow dagger dropped out from the side dresed in dragon scales and a golden seal on the side could be seen.

Dear Asher,

There are some things I must speak with you about tonight. Please come and talk with me soon, my love. I am sorry you received this letter so late.

Love forever,

Mom

A lump formed in his throat. How dare she! He ran his fingers against the letters on the page. She had never written anything like this before. What could possibly make her act like this? Why was she apologizing to him? He couldn’t understand her sudden change of heart, or even her motives in writing the letter.

If she truly cared, why didn’t she tell the truth instead of apologizing? He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts, and walked away. His mind was clouded and he had to sort out his feelings before facing his parents tonight. He couldn’t think straight right now.

“She will be waiting for you!” He giggled.

“Asher?” Unity questioned. “Do you hear me?”

Asher shook his head snapping out of his trance. “Sorry Unity, I just spaced out there.”

Unity took the letter looking at it closely, “I wonder what she has to say to you.”

Asher felt a piercing from something sharp from behind. His attention immediately shifted toward it. A knife flew directly towards his neck, stopping inches away from cutting it clean off.

Swiftly he ducked as it passed by. The sound of footsteps could be heard approaching him. He slowly stood, keeping himself between his attacker and Unity.

“What the hell?" Ash shouted.

"Didn't you miss me?" The figure spoke.

He stood taller than Ash was used to seeing him and wore a blue dress shirt, a black suit jacket, a white undershirt and a pair of blue jeans. He had dark brown hair and green eyes which shined brightly in the sunlight.

The white haired hero raised an eyebrow at him and responded, "what the hell are you doing here?"

The figure laughed and moved closer to Ash. "That is the same question i've been asking myself all night, what the hell are YOU doing here?!"

“Rian! How did you find me?!” Asher yelled.

“Have you forgotten my ability already?”

Before either of them could respond, there was a flash of light and Rian was gone , leaving the three standing alone, puzzled.

“You’ve got to stop doing that!” Unity said irritated.

Ash shrugged. “I don’t mean to, but that guy doesn’t like me also I can’t help that he’s creepy.”

"Over here idiots!" Rian shouted.

"Right...magic user..." Asher muttered.

"Are you hungry?" rian asked.

Asher looked over at him. "No," he replied.

Rian chuckled softly and rolled his eyes, "you're too skinny. We'll eat later then."

"Wait, what? Where are you guys headed anyways?" Unity asked.

Rian pointed to the nearby restaurant as Asher noticed the sign became excited and suddenly hungry. . He felt his stomach rumble loudly causing him to blush slightly.

They began walking down the road and eventually ended up stopping outside of a quaint little restaurant. The bell above the door chimed once they entered. There was a hostess stand in front of the counter with chairs placed near it.

"So how exactly did you end up in this world?" Rian questioned.

“That is a long story I am afraid, but what’s even more is how did you get here?” Ash asked.

"I'll have a hamburger, fries, and a vanilla milkshake," Rian replied.

“You are so boring! I will have beef tips over egg noodles please and three sour!” Unity shouted.

Asher was scouring the menu for several minutes prodding his fingers around the pictures and asking Rian what the food was exciteldly.

He nodded. "Can I have the special? And Uhhh that weird drink?" The waitress smiled before turning to the kitchen. After she left the boys talked for a while about random subjects. They laughed, and joked, and shared memories from school. Soon their food arrived and everyone dug into their meal.

As Rian ate, a sudden thought crossed his mind, “so where are you heading? Are you staying?” Ash inquired.

“Nearby as my employer is down here actually.” Rian explained.

“You are working?!” Asher burst into laughter.

“And how are you making money, Prince Asher?” Rian smirked.

Pausing he never thought about it. Unity said nothing to the spoiled prince who couldn’t even respond to this question.

“I…hmmm…I never worked a day in my life.” Ash mumbled.

“Who is paying your rent?” Rian smiled.

“Rent?” He responded confused.

“Yes, you live with the girl right? Who paid for all the food you guys eat? And where’d the clothes come from?” Rian said. He knew the answer to his questions.

“Well…um…I…uh…”Ash frowned at him and blushed slightly. “Why does it matter?”

Rian let out a deep sigh and rubbed his forehead. This was getting harder than he thought it would be.

“Prince Asher you are so spoiled…in this reality you need to help!” Rian scolded.

In an instant he recalled about the letter handing it to Rian who scanned it. Gawking at the address he handed it back to Ash.

“You weren’t sent here by your mother was you?” Rian asked.

“No…please come with me.” Ash pleaded.

“Ash…” Rian whispered.

“I am not sure if she has something up her sleeves! I didn’t even know she could travel the rfit!” Ash explained.

Rian got up from his seat. He placed the money on the table walking out promptly with nothing else he could say to Asher.

“Where are you going!?” Asher exclaimed.

Unity tugged on his shirt pointing to the bill. They go up to the counter to quickly pay only for Asher to dart for the door gazing around to find no one there. Rian had left him all alone after asking him to visit his mother with him.

“There is a whole lot more than you expect, Prince Ash…let’s go home…” Unity stated.
