Chapter 3: Intermission

In the space between space, a hole had been left, like a bullet had torn through fabric leaving singed and frayed threads in its wake. The vaporous nothing in which matter had not yet become things, a creature to which the closest approximation to mortal terms would be “god” appeared, clicking one of its many thousands of tongues.

It spoke realities into existence with syllables, and then shattered them into dust with full stops. Syllables birthed galaxies, pauses decimated cosmoses. Its language was abstract ideas that were born into writhing forms that were alive and screaming, unprepared for it. It communicated in light and colour and scent and music and starlight as much as it did sound. There was no possible way to truly translate its speech, but an approximation could be made based on context clues.

It went roughly like this.

“Oh dear, dear, dear, what’s this then? Someone’s gone and torn a hole in the fabric of reality with a bit of unregulated world hopping, haven’t they. And of course it’s on me to clean up this mess, as per usual. Why not, after all it’s not like I’m a god of creation or anything, no deary me, may as well change my job description to ‘existential janitor’. Huh. Well, let’s go find the culprit and drag them back where they belong and then set about mending all these tears.”

Then there was a pop, and the god was gone.
