I don’t have time for this nonsense, is what you think and decide not to waste time on the foolish adventurer. Lyanna is not going anywhere and you have higher priorities, namely, finding your sister while there’s still a chance to find her alive.

“Unfortunate, but we don’t have time to run around the city looking for her,” you say to Epsilon, disappointed that she was fooled by the oldest trick in the book.

“That’s very strange, good William,” Gorrazsh says, clearly bewildered by this sudden development. “I’ve gone on many adventures with Lyanna—she never seemed like a person who would try to swindle her adventuring party out of their share of the loot.”

“But she clearly confessed to robbing one of her party members out of a portion of the loot earlier,” Epsilon says.

“But if she intended to keep it all to herself and run off with it, there was no reason to tell about it at all,” Elza points out, also seemingly perplexed about what happened.

“We’ll find Lyanna later and ask her about it,” you say to the group and walk over to Rosetta. “Did you find what you were looking for?”

“Yep!” Rosetta exclaims with a wide grin and shoves an eggplant in your face. “You like this one?”

“Yes, it’s wonderful,” you say dismissively and push the eggplant away from your face.

“It didn’t sound like you really meant it!” Rosetta complains.

“I’m sorry for not caring about your eggplant, but every minute of delay might mean the difference between finding the kidnapped girl alive or dead.”

“Alright, I’ll take this one,” Rosetta says to the lizardman merchant, putting the eggplant away somewhere in the depths of the shadows of her coat. From those same depths she pulls out a small purse, that is basically a leather bag with two strings tying it at the top. Rosetta gives a few coins to the merchant, puts the purse away and says, “Let’s go—not a minute to lose!”

Rosetta grabs you by the arm, with her left hand. With her right hand she swipes through the air and opens a purple eggplant-shaped portal, about seven feet high and three feet wide. Rosetta jumps through the portal, pulling you with her. A second later you’re standing in front of Eisheth’s brothel. You turn around and see the portal swiftly close and disappear behind you, leaving the rest of your party back at the market.

“Wait, we needed them too!” You say loudly to Rosetta. Though that was not the reason you barely held back from shouting at Rosetta about what the hell she’s doing, even though you should be thrilled that Rosetta actually has a teleport spell. Epsilon knows where the brothel is, the others heard where you’re going, and it will take them fifteen minutes at most to get here. You’re worried about the cooldown on Rosetta’s teleport spell that she just used to avoid a short walk across the town.

“Why?” Rosetta seems genuinely confused. “You wanted my help, and I’m the best adventurer around!”

“How long is the cooldown on that spell you just used?”

“Six hours.”

Figures.

“There you are!” you hear a familiar voice of an old chain-smoker coming from above. You look up and see a small furball with wings and several scars on its body descend from the rooftop and land on the protruding door frame of the brothel. For a moment you wonder how the small troglodyte find you, but you remember saying to Pythia that you’re heading to the brothel in Ranville.

“I graciously bring news from her highness, lady Pythia!” troglodyte Twinkle announces.

It’s “her highness” now?

“Oh, a snack?” Rosetta says with excitement and pulls out from behind her naked back a dagger with a curved blade as long as her forearm.

“H-how dare you!” Twinkle seems offended and gestures with his wing.

You chuckle and say, “Don’t eat him just yet. What’s the situation in the capital?”

“The capital? Your ignorance shows no bounds!” the creature about the size of your fist berates you. “Do you have any idea how long it would take for a troglodyte to fly to the capital and back? Lady Pythia assumed you would’ve already found a way to get there and back. Clearly she over-estimated you!”

“You can eat him now,” is what you want to say to Rosetta, but you hold back for now.

“In that case what news do you bring?” you ask.

“There is unusual movement in the Shadow Woods,” Twinkle answers. “Dire wolves are gathering from across the lands, and other creatures have re-emerged.”

“Other creatures? Those wouldn't happen to be parasite-infested animals?" you ask."Where are the dire wolves gathering? Where are going?”

“It is too early to tell, but their numbers are formidable.”

“Sounds like trouble,” Rosetta says, and manages an expression serious enough, that you assume that the threat might be serious enough.

“Anything else?” you ask the troglodyte.

“That was not enough for you?”

“How long would it take Pythia to fly here, if needed?”

“You expect the Lady Pythia to just sit around, waiting for your call, and take off at a moment's notice?”

“Yes,” your response is simple.

“Her highness would do no such thing!” Twinkle announces. He seems really angry now. “I have fulfilled my duty. Farewell, ingrates!”

“William!” you hear Gorazzsh’s voice from down the street. You turn around and see him, Alpha, Epsilon, and Elza running toward you. When you look back up, the troglodyte is already in the air, rising high above Ranville’s rooftops.

“Let’s go,” you say to Rosetta, walk up the stairs and open the door to the brothel, not waiting for the others to catch up.

“That was fast,” Eisheth says and gets up from one of her couches when she sees you and Rosetta walk through the door.

“Hey, Eishi!” Rosetta waves to the succubus.

“Rosy!” Cer, Ber, and Us shout in unison and run up to the girl like excited puppies. Rosetta smiles, kneels down and hugs all three of them at once.

“I came a little earlier than I planned to. A lot of things seem to be going on recently,” Rosetta says and gets up. “What’s this business about a kidnapped girl?”

“My sister,” Eisheth gets straight to the point. “Some garbage scum apparently hurt her and took her to the cesspool that is Highwer. I can’t get there as fast as you can.”

Meanwhile, your party walks inside one by one, and the three girls seem a lot less happy to see the four additional guests.

“This is a first—seeing you ask anyone for help,” Rosetta says and crosses her arms. “You want to go now?”

“Without a moment’s delay!”

“I’ll have to use my high-tier teleportation spell,” Rosetta says. “You remember that it will take twenty-four hours before I can use it again, right?”

“That’s fine,” Eisheth says with cold determination.

“Alright. We’re taking these guys also?” Rosetta nods at you.

“If they don’t get in the way I don’t care one way or the other.”
