They were living in a world where humans believed in the existence of God. The humans had religions, and they believed in the existence of Heaven and Hell as well.
The humans believed that God was the one who had created the world, including Heaven and Hell. God didn't want to let the world be lonely, so He created living creatures such as humans, animals, and plants to accompany the vacant Earth.
He didn't want to let Heaven and Hell be empty either, so He created other beings to fill up the two places.
God created benevolent beings and placed them in Heaven. Those benevolent beings were known as angels, and those angels' main purposes were to praise and serve God. Aside from that purpose, the angels also shouldered the responsibility to assist humans in achieving a proper rapport with God.
Angels created peace and love on Earth, and each Angel had their own task to be completed both in Heaven and on Earth. As God's servers, they did what God told them to do.
The angels were God's faithful worshippers, and they listened only to God and wouldn't dare to disobey God's will. Unfortunately, not all angels were completely faithful to their creator, and there were periods when some angels were in the rebellion phase.
God had directly created them and placed them in Heaven with all the comfort and fulfillment, but some angels decided to betray the greatest creator instead of remained faithful to Him.
Lucifer was the first one to rebel against his creator. He became so impressed with his own beauty, intelligence, power, and position that he started to desire for himself the honor and glory that belonged to God only.
Because of his pride, Lucifer led other Angels to rebel against God. He then fell from Heaven and lived in Hell. Along with other fallen angels that fell from Heaven with him, Lucifer led the trope of demons in Hell.
Demons, as malevolent beings, attempted to keep humans from gaining a right relationship with God by provoking them to sin. During his existence as the king of Hell for so many years, Lucifer had led the demons to ruin the peace and love on Earth.
They weren't only provoking humans to sin, but they caused a lot of calamities as well, both natural and accidental calamities. They had the power to cause earthquakes, floods, tsunami, and other natural disasters, and they ruined the balance on Earth by causing the tragedy.
Lucifer and the demon tropes dared to challenge God and the angels that wanted to spread peacefulness and love on Earth.
Lucifer, as the strongest creature in Hell, was famous for his high pride and merciless character. For him, the catastrophe on Earth was his way to punish humans. When he sensed that humans were having a good harmony with God, they punish them by causing disasters.
Lucifer was merciless and heartless, and he punished anyone who dared to go against him or made him disappointed, including his followers who couldn't do their jobs properly.
In the main hall of the darkest Hell, Lucifer led his people to judge one of the demons who couldn't do his jobs properly.
"How old are you, Azren?" The King of Hell questioned the one who became the center of attention.
All demons in Hell gathered in the main hall because of Lucifer's invitation. All of them showed grim expressions, and none of them displayed a smile even a little. Their brows furrowed deeply at the one in the center, their crimson eyes glared at him, and their horns were also ready to rip off the male demon.
The young demon, Azren, answered the king of Hell politely. He had a different appearance from other demons in Hell. When all demons had dark hair as dark as the night, Azren had bright blonde hair covering his scalp. His horns were sharp and pointy as well, but they were quite small compared with other demons' horns.
And when all demons showed a grim and dark expression, the young demon showed a timid and terrified expression instead.
Lucifer, who was sitting on his throne in the front of the hall, glared dangerously at the young demon.
"You have been living as a demon for 200 years, but still you can't do your jobs properly? Even a demon that was born last year can do better than you!"
Azren, who was kneeling in the center, could only lower his head upon hearing the king's exclaimed. No one was willing to help him, and no one was willing to speak for him as well. All they could do was staring at him with their hard expressions.
"Tell me what's your mistake in the past 200 years, Azren."
Azren visibly gulped when he heard Lucifer's order. He tried to reckon his mistake in the past 200 years, but he couldn't bring himself to voice out the said mistake.
"You can't tell me what's your mistake, Azren? Is it because you can't think of your own mistake in the past 200 years?"
The Lucifer sounded so cold and indifferent, and Azren felt more and more pressured under the tone.
"I... I know my mistake, My Lord."
Lucifer's red eyes glinted dangerously as he smirked at the young Demon. "You do know your mistake, but you don't want to tell me about it? Ah, maybe it's not that you don't want to tell me, but it's because you can't tell me, right? You have made lots of mistakes in the past 200 years, and you probably can't remember them all!"
Lucifer suddenly raised his tone, and Azren squirmed in his position.
"From the smallest task to the biggest task, you have failed them all, Azren," the Lucifer spoke again. "Even when I just asked you to coax a student to cheat in his exam, you couldn't do that task properly! I shouldn't have given you the bigger tasks such as causing calamity on Earth. You're definitely a useless demon!"
The blonde demon couldn't argue and just kept his mouth shut. Other demons didn't dare to make a sound as well. Lucifer was really angry now, and if they dared to make the slightest sound, the king surely would make them vanish in instant.
"I have given you so many chances in the past 200 years, but you keep disappointing me," the king spoke again in a frustrated tone. His crimson eyes pierced into the young demon's, and he made a final decision.. "I have to punish you now, Azren."
