As we left the meadow behind and drove the wagon, the amount of grass on the ground was decreasing rapidly. By the time the sun began to dip and we entered Besjövel territory, the surroundings were completely wilderness.
Even though I'm going to be the daughter of a lord, I can't imagine what the future holds for me in this kind of territory.
when the evening came, and the sky was dyed a madder shade of red, Benjamin, who was acting as the coachman made the horses stop.
「Lady Nora, we have arrived.」
「This is ......Fuharden?」
I looked out of the wagon, I’m stunned at the sight.
Dozens of sparsely built houses, all in a terrible state of decay. A walking stray dog has a protruding rib. It's really lonely and detested.
The lord's mansion, which is barely holding its shape has a huge hole in the roof and the walls are crumbling. This is worse than I expected.
「Uhm, Mr. Bartel, right? 」
「Yes, I am Bartel de Braun Lady Eleonora's butler.」
Without thinking I called out to Bartel who was sitting next to me. Seeing my astonished expression, he lowers his eyebrows in annoyance and replies.
To such a butler, I asked.
「You said Fuharden was the capital city of Besjövel territory, right? 」
「Yes. As you can see it's easy to call it closer to ruin, lined with row of run-down houses. 」
Bartel nods at my question. He said he couldn't believe what he was seeing. I can see that.
But I'm not here to explore the ruins. I’ve been banished to this territory, an island is better.
I mean that.
「Where do I live? Alone? 」
「Yes certainly, me, Benjamin, and Linda will be with you.」
Bartel nodded at me again, as I was more and more astonished. Him, Linda, and Benjamin will live in this town with me. I want to mourn.
Unexpectedly, a voice of sadness spills out of my mouth.
「Oh no! 」
「Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your honest opinions. 」
Bartel chuckled at my voice as he lowered his head.
Even he would want to lament that he didn't mean to do this. The city life in the gorgeous royal city is turned upside down to an unwanted life in the frontier. It's not hard.
Linda sighs deeply as she puts her elbows on the carriage window.
「It can't be helped, Besjövel territory has a small number of lords and the land is thin. There's no significant industry in the area.」
「It's really the middle of nowhere to send Lady Nora away like this, does the Master want her to die? 」
Benjamin doesn't hide his anger as he watches Fuharden's devastation from his seat.
It's only natural. It is a death sentence to live in such a place.
Bartel sniffed and opened his mouth.
「It's not an exaggeration to say that Eleonora van Oylsterhout has gone into hiding. All that remains is continuing to quietly rot away here in the middle of nowhere. ...... 」
Bartel, who doesn't hide the fact that he's dead, makes me and the other two look serious.
Quite so. It is still better that they are not deported but they are treated just as well. It is no exaggeration to say that Eleonora is dead when she can no longer bear the family name of Oylsterhout.
After taking a breath there. Bartel chuckled and looked at me.
「The ...... is of course inadmissible, is it not Master Eleonora? 」
「Of course.」
I responded immediately to his words.
Of course not there's no way I would have tolerated this life, this end.
I shouted as I pounded my fist on the seat of the carriage.
「I can't forgive him for abandoning his own daughter on his own accord and convenience, kicking her out of his house and then asking her to die in the middle of nowhere like this! I want to turn back to King's Landing right now and beat the hell out of your father right now!」
「Well, okay calm down. 」
I was angry, but Linda reached out to soothe me. if it were really possible, I'd be inclined to blast the carriage towards King's Landing right now and punch your father or whoever in the face.
One's own daughter, daughter who just turned 16. Throwing them away in this dreary countryside just because they have black eyes and because it's a disgrace to the family. I'll not allow to do that. I don't know what the original Eleonora thought, at least I don't.
Bartel nodded and said to me, still angry.

「I understand your feelings but if you don't take the proper steps, you will find yourself guilty of treason. I suggest you think this through. 」
「Yeah, that's it.」
I said to Bartel's words, “Think carefully before you move” as if to cover him.
That's right. If I don't think carefully about what I'm going to do and how I'm going to move, what awaits me is the end which is execution. To survive, we must use our wits and get around.
More than that I don't want to die anyway.
「To be honest, I don't want to be irrationally angry anymore. I'd hate even more to be executed. Nevertheless, I definitely don't want to be unreasonably dumped in this shithole and spend my days dying in a place that isn't much fun. 」
Yes, I don't want to die and if anything, I don't want to die living a life without stimulation or anything.
The most important thing to remember is that you're a member of the nobility. I don't want to die and give it away just because of an uncertain reason like eye colour. I don't want to live my whole life in this abandoned countryside.
I'm sure the Count of Besjövel is also a nobleman and a lord, and I'm sure I'll remain a nobleman all the same. However, I don't want to settle for such a boring position as the daughter of the Margrave.
So I posed a question to Mr. Bartel.
「I'm not sure if you're going to be able to do that. What kind of a man is Count Besjövel? 」
Bartel and Linda look at each other in response to my question. Then they both gave a small sigh.
Apparently, he's having a hard time deciding how to talk about it. Is it really that difficult?
Soon after, Mr. Bartel fixes his goatee and says
「In a word, lazy and violent.」
「I heard that he have a wife, but she went back to her parents' house a few years ago and hasn't been back since. They have no children, because of that he have agreed to accept Eleonora-sama.」
Linda also spoke with a sigh, not hiding her dismay.
Well, if he doesn't get along with his wife and has no heir it's not strange that he would want to take in a daughter even if she's nicknamed the Witch. As a count, he could sell favours to the Duke of Oylsterhout. I'm sure Father has wrapped up some dowry.
But from what I've heard, it doesn't sound like a difficult thing or anything of that dimension. I say frankly as I lean back against the back of the carriage chair.
「I see. So you're saying there's only one old man who looks like a cesspit. 」
「Hmm...indeed」
「Eh, Eleonora-sama...!」
Manure. Bartel, Linda, and Benjamin all burst out at once at that overly honest expression.
Count Besjövel, even if he is a lord and the head of a noble family. That would be a cesspit or a word that no one would ever be able to say even if they thought it.
Then, from behind the wagon’s door came the sound of a shrill chuckling laugh
「Oh my gosh, kakaka you said manure heap. You're a girl with spirit.」
「Huh? 」
I couldn't help but make a straight face. Raise the hood and look out and there stands an old woman in a dingy robe, wearing a hood and holding a cane.
Who is she? As soon as I had my doubts, Mr. Bartel approached the fearful old woman.
「Um, ......, if you don't mind me asking, who are you?」
Then the old woman grinned, lifting her hood with her right hand. Her pure white eyes peek out from behind her long bangs and gleam.
「I'm just a poor old woman living by the edge of the abyss, just beyond the edge of this shabby ruin. What do you say, Duchess? Will you listen to me? 」
「uh…… 」
Mr. Bartel seeing the look in her eyes, looked at her in amazement. He shouted to Benjamin, who was sitting in the driver’s seat showing his obvious agitation.
「Benjamin, stop the carriage. Let's hear what this esteemed person has to say before we go to the castle. 」
「Mr Bartel, what's going on? What's this filthy old woman's story about」
「Good, quick.」
He continued to repeat his words to Benjamin, who looked at him suspiciously. Who the hell is this old woman?
The horse pulling the carriage stopped, without me, Linda, or Benjamin knowing what was going on. As it was, the old woman grinned as she stood by the carriage.
