Alex was still not over what Jessica said. Her words continued to prick him in his chest. Truth be told, what Alex cared most for was Karen, and he wanted to prove himself in front of her, but that would have helped the company along the line, wouldn’t it? How dare that pea brain question his intention? With his looks and sweet tongue, it was not hard for him to have a few of them leave Theation, or at least that’s what he thought, but never did that thought cross his mind.
Getting out of the elevator, the first thing Alex did was to message Karen, asking her for Jessica’s reply.
As he paced around waiting for her reply, it took some time, but finally, his phone buzzed. It was Karen who had just replied. Karen wanted him to leave the matter for her to take care, but Alex wouldn’t let her. He was ready to spend some time convincing Karen, but, unexpectedly, Karen gave in very fast and sent him Jessica’s email.
Alex also did not chat with Karen any longer and typed his resignation in mere seconds before sending it to Jessica. It was only after that he was done, did he took a deep breath and left for home whistling.????????????r????α????.c????????

.....
While everyone in the PR department was sad over the loss of their beloved shota, Jessica was alone in her office, fuming in anger, looking at her screen.
At the same time, the door opened, and someone entered without knocking.
Without averting her eyes from her computer screen, Jessica roared, “Didn’t I tell you not to disturb me, no matter what?”
“My... My... who is brave enough to ruffle the reverse scales of this dragon?” Jessica heard a pleasant, surprised voice.
Hearing the voice, Jessica looked up, and her face softened. But still, with her trademark poker face, she asked, “Why are you here? Whatever it is, make it quick.”
It was Veronica. Wearing a tight, white one-piece dress, slightly above her knees, and a white fur jacket, ignoring Jessica’s rude remarks, Veronica leisurely walked forward in her heels and sat in front of Jessica comfortably, without any reservations.
“Don’t think just because I am bound by a contract, I want to see your face. Your grandfather asked me to come. He wanted me to...” Veronica shrugged as she began to narrate but stopped when she saw Jessica stealing glances at her computer screen with rage in those beautiful eyes.
‘What could be more important than this sexy babe?’ Curious, Veronica got up from her chair and walked behind the table to see what got her cold queen to fume in anger.
Jessica, on the other hand, when saw Veronica make her move, tried to hide it. But, Veronica was a step ahead as she hurriedly leaned forward, and at the expense of almost lying flat on the table, grabbed Jessica by her arm and stopped her from closing the tab.
“What are you doing?” Annoyed, Jessica looked at Veronica and asked.
“What are you hiding?” Veronica did not back down and looked Jessica straight into her eyes.
“Don’t you have an image to keep up with?” Jessica asked, struggling to pull her hand out of Veronica’s grip, “Do you know how much I spend to keep that cute, loving image of yours in the public?”
“Then you are just a wastrel,” Veronica scoffed at Jessica, “Even if I were to fart in public, all it will take is a smile of mine for them to go gaga to smell that fart,” Veronica had a prideful smirk on her face.
“Disgusting,” Jessica felt like vomiting hearing Veronica. She tried to pull back her hand, getting out of the tussle.
Since Jessica was ready to give up, Veronica also let go of her hand and turned to look at what made Jessica lose her temper.
Slowly the smile on Veronica’s face began to bloom wider, and by the end, she could not help herself from bursting into laughter. Veronica looked at the screen, then towards Jessica, and her laughter got louder by the minute.
Jessica felt her blood boil hearing that devilish laughter of her friend. Her fists clenched, and her nails dug into her palm. The root cause of everything going wrong right now for her was only one person, her arch-enemy, Alex.
Just before Veronica walked in, Jessica got an email from Alex. It was his resignation letter, which read,
I resign... Uulll... (Alex had his own selfie with his tongue stuck out and his eyes rolled back attached here. He looked horrendous and if not for Jessica who knew him, it was hard for anyone to identify his features)
Thank you
Your worst nightmare
One who should not be named.
And the email ended, just like that.
It was the shortest yet the most provocative resignation letter Jessica had seen. Jessica could have never thought that Alex would pull off such a stunt even after leaving the company. And to make it worse, the hysterical laughter of Veronica was annoying the hell out of her.
“Will you put a lid on?” Irritated, Jessica asked Veronica with a tinge of helplessness
“Hahaha... Ha... Aah... Haha... ha,” Veronica tried to control herself, and soon she was out of breath, “I am sorry... Such miracles... are hard to come by... I just can’t get myself... to stop... Hehehe...” Veronica said between her giggles.
“Ha... Ha... Ha... Very funny,” Jessica sarcastically looked at Veronica. She grabbed a piece of paper, and, crumbling it into a ball, tried to stuff it inside Veronica’s mouth.
“Umm... Mmmm... Fine, I will stop now,” Veronica tried her best to get away from Jessica. Pushing her away, Veronica ran back to her chair while Jessica was left standing, staring at Veronica.
Now that it was settled, Jessica threw the paper ball at Veronica and sat back, sighing at her fate.
“Uummhh... Ha... Ha...,” Veronica was panting with laughter. But she was still itching to pry further, “I won’t laugh anymore... but who was it? Dare to resign in such a grand style.” Veronica asked.
“No one important,” Jessica would never tell Veronica what happened earlier. This loud mouth will broadcast her misery to everyone, “Just tell me why are you here?” Jessica asked.
“Come on... You can tell me,” Veronica nudged Jessica’s arm, “I won’t tell anyone... Promise.” Veronica pinched her neck lightly and tried to convince Jessica.
“I told you it’s nothing...” Jessica did not budge, “Out with why you are here.”
“Hunff...” Veronica was not very pleased when she did not get anything from Jessica, “Well, your grandfather is the reason I am here,” Veronica now relaxed as she told Jessica, “He was quite worried about you. You were not answering his calls, and there was this matter of your accident as well. So your grandfather asked me to check on you,” Veronica said as she pulled out a nail file and filed her nails leisurely.
“What was he thinking?” Jessica could not believe her grandfather would do something like this, “I don’t need a babysitter, much less someone like you, who is the root cause of most of my daily problems,” Jessica grumbled.
“Try following my schedule for a day. You won’t leave your bed for a week,” Veronica looked at Jessica in disdain, “I am still here is already a huge favour I am doing to you. Any other company, and they would happily let me dance on their head,” Veronica scoffed at Jessica.
Jessica at once knew that what Veronica was saying was the truth, but she was not going to admit it even if someone put a sword by her neck. And more than that, she had no energy left to argue with Veronica, ‘Whose face did she see in the morning that her day was getting from bad to worse?’
“Fine, my mother... Just try to keep yourself in check,” Not wanting to dwell in a conversation with her, Jessica tried to send Veronica away, “Now if you don’t have anything else to say, you better get going. I am sure you are sacrificing your beauty sleep to check on me. I also have some things to take care of.”
“Che... As if I am dying to be in your arms,” Veronica turned her face away from Jessica, “I am here only because your grandfather asked me to, and I quite like him. And I am in this company because Karen was the one to ask for that. If not for her, I would have long gone,” Veronica, in a swift movement, flung her hair to one side and stood up.
“I am leaving. You better give your grandfather a call,” Veronica said and turned around to leave, which left Jessica in joy. But just when she reached the door, Veronica turned around.
“By the way, do you know the guy by the name of Alex? I think he is an intern in the Legals,” Veronica asked.
Hearing Alex’s name from Veronica, Jessica was shocked, “Why do you ask?”
Veronica thought for a while before she shook her head, “It’s nothing. Forget I asked. I will ask Daniel about it,” Veronica said, and before Jessica could inquire more, she left.
After Veronica left, Jessica was left in deep thoughts, ‘How does she know that guy? So I was right. He did join my company with an ulterior motive. Whatever anyone would say, I did the right thing,’ Finally content with her decision to throw Alex out of Theation, Jessica’s mood elevated slightly.
