Alex reached the restaurant at about ten minutes to eight. He was also the first one to arrive there. He soon parked his bike in the parking, and in no time, he was standing in front of the establishment that read 'Springville' in glittering lights. He looked around in search of the ladies but could not find anyone from the PR department. Thinking that they might have already gone inside, he pulled out his phone and called Jennifer, the only safe option, to know where they were.
"Alex, have you reached there?" Jennifer asked as soon as she picked up the phone.
"Yeah. Why didn't you guys wait for me before going in? Where should I come?" Alex asked.
"Sorry, Alex, but we are still not there. We will be there in at most five minutes," Jennifer said apologetically.
"Is that so? Well, that's good then. Okay, I am waiting for you guys outside the place. Hurry up," Alex told her.
"We have already made the reservation. If you want, you can wait for us inside," Jennifer told Alex.
But before Alex could reply, Ellaine said from behind, "You better not go inside, newbie. Won't you feel guilty that your superiors are still out there while you are getting cozy inside?"
"Yeah... I will wait for you guys," Alex could only say that. He was anyhow going to wait for them here, but after hearing Ellaine, there was no place for second thoughts.
"Will you let him off sometimes?" Jennifer said, rebuking Ellaine. Then she got back to Alex, "You don't have to listen to her. You can wait for us inside. I will send you the details."
"No, it's alright. I will wait," Alex said.
"If that's the case, alright. We will be there soon," Jennifer said and soon hung up.
Alex, on the other hand, looked at his phone, shaking his head. They all work together, but all of them are so different from each other.
Karen was like Rudra, the god he once read about. She was benevolent and all-forgiving most of the time, enjoying the company of others and never throwing her weight around. But when she is in a bad mood, she will destroy everything that comes her way without regard to who it is.
Jennifer, on the other hand, was the perfect embodiment of an angel. Soft-spoken, polite and always caring about others. Alex found it hard to believe that such people existed in the world.
But... Like there is a night for day, black for white and yin for the yang, there are also devils to stand against the angelic Jennifer, Ellaine and Hazel. The two of them have left no stone unturned to terrorise Alex. They made him their errand boy the very first day. They tease him, play pranks on him, and even torture him, but Alex knows that they care about him. The day he came all bruised up, they were the first ones to get riled up, ready to burst open the head of his assailants. This was one of the reasons he was willing to be their plaything for the time being.
Then there was Amber, the little rascal. Over the few weeks, she has turned into the perfect prodigy for Ellaine and Hazel. Ellaine and Hazel are also honing her pretty very well.
Everyone was a character in the PR department, but Alex loved to be a part of that small group.
And with that, just like Jennifer said, within five minutes or so, all the ladies of the PR department were standing beside Alex. All of them were a head-turner on their own. As men walked by them, they could not take their eyes off of them, and many even ended up colliding with each other.
But not everyone was bathed with friendly stares. Alex, on the other hand, could feel his back go cold. When the gazes of all the men passing by fell on the only man among so many ladies, apart from feeling jealous, they could not help but send death glares to Alex. Alex felt their glares were sharp enough to pierce right through him. The men had only one thought in their minds, 'What a lucky bastard he is.'
"You are quite lucky, Alex. Look at them looking at you with their eyes filled with resentment and jealousy," Ellaine teased Alex.
"Well, our newbie deserves to be treated this way. Haven't you seen it? Even the chief favours him" Hazel supported Alex as she grabbed hold of his arm. When Alex felt the softness of Hazel's chest by his arm, Alex could feel the blood surge in his head.
"Enough with your rubbish now. Let's go inside," Karen said as she flicked Hazel's forehead. Alex felt from her tone that Karen was not in the mood for idle chatter, and given the opportunity, she would rather be somewhere else than here.
"Aye... Aye... Captain," Hazel saluted Karen, which was followed by salutes from everyone. Even Jennifer didn't shy away from this.
Being saluted by all of them in the middle of the road left Karen speechless. She hurriedly asked them to stop, "Stop this fiasco or your next paychecks will bear the consequences," saying this, Karen walked towards the restaurant, leaving the rest of the ladies rooted to their spot.
Alex, on the other hand, was once again left in awe with Karen. Such an ingenious and smooth threat. Only Karen could do it.
