Getting the nod from Margaret, Martha gave her the keys, and giving her some further instructions, drove away in her car.
After Martha was out of sight, Margaret clenched the keys, and with a silly grin on her face, sprang inside her house.
She opened her wardrobe, fiddled around with the dresses before finally settling on a hazy blue shift dress, comfy and stylish at the same time. She quickly dressed up, played around with minimal makeup and made her way to her beloved Alex.
Margaret sneaked her way inside the house stealthily. She took off her heels and tip toped around the house. She carefully looked around, and her heartbeat rose with each step she took. The way she was going around, even she felt like she was just short of picking something up and becoming a full-fledged authenticate thief.
After she was quite sure that no one other than herself was around, Margaret sighed with relief. Margaret had no idea where Alex's room was. She checked every room downstairs to find where Alex was, but when she couldn't, she moved upstairs.

"Ummm...Uhhh..." yawning and stretching himself, Alex woke up. It was a nice little nap, but he was feeling much better now.
"Ahhhh..." Just as he opened his eyes, he found a blur, unknown face staring right at him inches away from his face. Terrified, Alex screamed as he tried to distance himself from the person.
"Shsshh… Shsshh… Calm down… Calm down… It's me, Margaret," Margaret hurriedly tried to shush Alex. She had just found Alex's room, and when she peeked inside, she found him sleeping peacefully. Margaret wanted to wake him up, but looking at his innocent face, she decided against it. She pulled the chair from the side and sat on Alex's side as she stared at his face affectionately.
"Miss Cole... I mean Margaret? What are you doing here? "Alex asked, confused, ‘Am I in the wrong house?’ Alex looked around but when he was sure that it was his room, he couldn’t understand what was she doing at his house? What more in his room?
"Guess... what am I doing all alone in your bedroom?" Margaret asked with a slick smile on her face.
Alex clutched the blanket tightly and slowly lifted it to his chest, "How am I supposed to know? When I slept, I was all alone. I remember that crystal clear".
"Are you sure?"
"I am. Now don't beat around the bush. Tell me, how are you here? What if mom comes walking through that right now?" Alex said and sprinted from his bed and bolted the door hurriedly, "Where is mom?" Alex asked in a mosquito-like whisper.
Margaret laughed when she saw how panicked Alex was, "I am messing with you. Your mother told me that you had a fever and asked me to check on you from time to time. So I just came to check on you," Margaret said but could not help admire Alex's cute reaction.
"Where is mom?" Alex asked. He was relieved to hear that Martha was not here, but being alone with Margaret was another headache for him. This was the kind of situation that he dreamt of many times, but now that the opportunity presented itself in front of him, he had no idea how to tackle it.
"She had to go to the hospital. There was some emergency she had to take care of. So she asked me for this favour," Margaret patiently answered Alex's questions as she sat on the chair without moving.
"Ohh! Sorry for the trouble then. I am fine, you must be busy, there is no need for you to stay here. I will tell mom that you were here," Alex said as he walked away from the door and the farther edge of the bed crawled back into his blanket.
"What do you mean? Your mother gave me a job, and I am going to see it through the end," There is no way in hell Margaret was going to let go of such a great opportunity to be alone with Alex.
"But..." Alex tried to say something but was stopped by Margaret.
"No, if's and buts. Just pretend that I am not here. Now tell me, are hungry? Do you want me to get something for you? Soup or anything?" She asked.
"No, I am fine. I will just relax for now. You also get some rest," Alex said.
"You want me to rest beside you? Naughty boy, aren't you moving quite fast?" Margaret acted all shy, but with a hop, landed on the bed, besides Alex.
Just as Margaret climbed up the bed, Alex backed off and fell off the bed.
"Haww... am I that untouchable to you?" With her palms over her mouth, Margaret acted hurt and pitiful.
"No... that's not it. I was just surprised," Alex said as he tried to climb back.
"Fine, I won't tease you anymore. You can rest assured. If you need anything, feel free to let me know," Margaret said as she stood from the bedside and sat on the armchair again.
Alex didn't say anything. He just covered himself with the blanket, closed his eyes and tried to sleep. But sleep was far from his eyes.
Tick...Tok...Tick...Tok...
The ticking of the clock was the only thing that could be heard in the complete silent room. Margaret also picked up a book from the stack Alex had in his room, and sitting on the armchair, she read it in silence.
Alex tried his best to sleep, but with Margaret in the room, he could not get a wink of sleep. Alex peeked from inside the blanket and found Margaret reading silently in the corner. Alex continued to observe Margaret silently, and without notice, he was staring at her without even blinking.
"You know... You will suffocate under that blanket. You can look at this beauty freely," Margaret said without averting her eyes from her book.
Alex, hearing her, in a fluster, covered himself again with the blanket.
Seeing the adorable antics of Alex, Margaret smiled and got back to her reading. Alex, on the other hand, didn't even try to poke his head out of the blanket anymore.
