Chapter 1.13: A sister’s loving glance

Trigger Warnings: Incest (body only)

Alek had stopped crying by now, his voice was muffled as he spoke. "Cleo, what are you saying?"

"Shush!" She yelled, her voice engulfed in rage. It felt good to let some of the anger she had been balling up out even for a minute. "I won't let you get hurt because I chose to misbehave!"

Leila could hear her mother’s heart stop at her exclamation. The teenager tightened her grip on the older man and waited. She could feel the tension in the room hit its peak. If her mother agreed, she would be hitting her daughter for the first time since she was a toddler. No one ever imagined that the woman would do something that vile to her favorite child. The servants would be aghast at the sight of the girl's bruised face. A frail child like him who had already been through too much being beaten by their mistress. The entire household would be in an uproar and the peace they had would slowly deteriorate into nothing.

And if that deterioration happened so be it. This family was tainted and she had no desire to support it longer than she needed. It was Cleo who loved her mother and hoped to give just like her. It was the jade-eyed beauty who believed her father was the greatest mercenary country had ever seen. In contrast, Leila knew them as background characters in the tragedy that was Cleo's life. They felt like flesh and blood but in reality, they were words on pieces of paper. Their entire world was contained on a file on a web novel site, along with millions of others.

"I won't be able to walk these halls knowing you're being hit because of me," She continued her voice reverberating off the room's walls. If anyone was on the floor they hear her words loud and clear. "I won't be able to breathe!"

"Cleo…" Her mother stopped the teenager as her plea became more desperate. "I could never lay a hand on you. Neither of you will be punished, okay?"

The teenager smirked, mission accomplished. Alek would know mommy would beat him like a dog any time of the day. But her precious, angelic daughter could fight against the woman and be pampered. She was excited to see the anxiety building on his face from the confrontation. He had to know that his mother thought of him as a mistake. She would abuse him, use him like a toy and discard him. There was no point fighting for her love when his baby sister was right there, holding him close.

"Thank you mother," She turned and gave a watery smile the woman. She sniffled, her bottom lip wobbling as she cried crocodile tears. "Can you leave brother and me alone to talk?"

Gracefully, the woman nodded and made her way out of the room. Beneath her body, Leila could feel her brother trembling. She felt a warm feeling deep inside as she hid her grin. He was a pathetic coward, it was engraved in him. She might not even need her magic to bring him to his knees. Her grip loosened as she looked at him with worry. His eyes were still red from unshed tears and his jaw was rigged as he ground his teeth together. She wondered if he wanted their mother to come back.

An idea popped into her head. She was hesitant to act on it, the man was still fragile. But she wanted to give it a try and she doubted he'd fight back. She moved a hand up his chest, startling him. Leila pushed him briefly, gaining his attention. He jumped a bit but stayed still as it moved to his chin. Slowly, she grabbed it up and titled it up a little. He looked adorable with the faint blush he had. There was confusion in his eyes as he blinked sluggishly.

"Brother. I felt so lonely when you rejected me," Leila let her voice become sugary sweet but her gaze was predatory. He quivered under her, helpless. "I thought you had treated me as the prince did."

"You know he laid down with me in that prison," Her hair fell onto his cheeks as she towered over him. She was looking at him with a vibrant expression. It was impossible to look away. "He kissed me and promised to have his heir."

Alek was shaking now. His hands were balled into fists as he cursed and panted in rage. "Cleo, why are you telling me this? What are you even–"

"I didn't want his child. I wanted yours," Leila felt revolted saying such a thing. She wanted to puke, she hated this pathetic bastard. But she needed to play her part and play it well. "I have always loved you, brother. But you always pushed me away."

Alek shrugged her off and pushed her. She tripped, managing to grab onto the wall to stay upright. The teenager instinctively presses into the wall at the sight of his face. He was enraged, a sheen over his eyes as he watched her with disbelief. Her legs shook as she tried to stay in control. Even when he lashed out it worked in her favor. A smile, warm like her touch, blossomed on her face. She was still the dominant one in this toxic relationship.

"You've gone mad!" He yelled, roaring at her as she grinned with pride.

"I have always loved you, brother. Mother knows it and I have no doubts father does too." She hummed and watched him recoil at her words.

He shook his head. "I don't want to hear this, Cleo. You're …you're damaged from the prince's torture." Alek desperately tried to convince himself what he was hearing were delusions.

"And were you damaged when you barged into my room that night, to kill me? To slit my throat before our pig-headed brothers had the chance?" She hissed feeling glee that his pain confirmed her suspicions.

Alek held up his hands in surrender. "Cleo please you have to understand why–"

Leila moved like a viper and threw herself at the man. They tumbled backward, his back hitting the mattress beneath him within a single thought. Her same went from loving to obsessive. She didn't think to take this route just yet. But she had blackmail, leverage over the coward. She suspected it. That night when they met, he was going to murder her. He would be a selfish brat and kill his traumatized, deathly injured little sister. If she didn't need him alive she'd kill him right there.

"Cleo!"

She growled, her mask slipping momentarily. "Shut the fuck up, you coward!"

"I thought my brother loved me. I thought that you would see my scars and comfort me." Her nails dug into his chest as he tried to protest. To deny the awful, disgusting truth. "But you were too hungry for our abusive mother's love. So hungry, you would pretend to care about my suffering for mere weeks."

"You got letters from them, didn't you? Did you all laugh about how whorish I've become? How I will open my legs for anyone, anything that lives!" Leila was filled with resentment that she swore it was Cleo's too. The brothers didn't care that she was beaten black and blue. All they cared about was making the woman feel lesser than them.

She threw her head back and laughed. Was this her dark magic influencing her mind? Or just her finally snapping under the pressure of living someone else's life. The teenager didn't care right now. All she cared about was having Alek know that he was serving her. She held his leash.

"I guess they were right. I will open my legs for anyone," She leaned down and looked directly into Alek's eyes. He looked torn between disgust and frustration. "Including you, big brother."
