Wang Xuan was in a state of meditation and focus, but still acutely detected the gazes that landed on him.

He opened his eyes and observed the woods, in the direction of his classmates.

The four students were surprised that he was able to detect them approaching from such a far distance away.

“Did you guys see that? The moment he opened his eyes, there were golden specks fading away from them.” Zhou Kun, one of the boys, said quietly.

Wang Xuan ended his Qi Absorption and Inner Cultivation. He was glowing in both body and mind, and under the sunrise, even his hair looked sparkling.

The four quickly paced over.

Su Chan, the spirited girl, said her greetings from afar, “Wang Xuan, I think I saw you shining just now!”

She was tall and slim, wearing a short dress that revealed a bit of her shoulders, and long socks that emphasized her long legs underneath. Her healthy black hair fell naturally on her body as well, and her youthful and lovely face carried a beautiful smile and curious eyes.

Wang Xuan laughed, “Can I interpret that as you complimenting my handsomeness?”

He stood tall and straight, and when he smiled under the sunlight it was almost blinding how he radiated confidence with his bright eyes and shiny white teeth.

“What a narcissist!” Su Chan grimaced back.

“Wang Xuan, you actually managed to master Qi Absorption?” Zhou Kun couldn’t help but ask.

He appeared pale and handsome, but he carried a depressing aura that made him appear to be lacking exercise despite his good physique.

They were all fairly close together from the many years they went through as schoolmates.

Wang Xuan nodded, “Yes, I’ve recently managed to achieve this.”

Xu Wenbo, the other male in the group, was usually cold and hard to socialize with for anyone from Earth, couldn’t resist responding with a regretful look on his face.

“The Old Techniques have existed for such a long time, it’s become outdated.” He shook his head.

A cool breeze blew past them and lifted some more fallen leaves.

Li Qingzhu, as her name suggests, comfortingly opened her mouth with a bookish and calm voice, “You can’t say that. At the very least it helps improve health and well-being, makes you stronger, and according to historical records some of its practitioners were very powerful.” 1Qingzhu roughly translates to clear bamboo

The few who came from Nova Terra know that the higher-ups have all but abandoned the research, and she was simply attempting to sympathize with Wang Xuan.

Wang Xuan was a bit startled, but he never regretted choosing this path. His initial reasons to study the Old Techniques weren’t for fame or glory, but simply due to interest.

Furthermore, he never dropped his automation degree and has received it long ago.

Xu Wenbo shook his head again, “Those are all based on legends with no evidence, and in this age, technology has developed so far that even if those “superhumans” revived in modern times, it was pointless if they fought mecha-soldiers and spaceships.”

As he looked into his distance, you could see a fire in his eyes as he knew that there is an even more shocking discovery over at Nova Terra – it was a better option that even thinking about it made him excited and anticipatory!

The group chatted a little longer. Su Chan suggested to Wang Xuan not to dedicate himself to the Old Techniques too much, as he has already graduated and should consider what to do for his career.

The ones from Nova Terra knew that once they chose the wrong life path, it wouldn’t matter how hard you work.

Zhou Kun opened his mouth and wanted to tell Wang Xuan something, but only patted his shoulders at the end resignedly.

The elders of his family warned that until the situation over at Nova Terra clears up, he was not allowed to reveal any of the new confidential information to strangers.

“I wish you all the best and a smooth trip back to Nova Tera!” Wang Xuan nodded at them. He knew that, unless something special happened, it was very unlikely that they would ever cross paths again.

The door to Nova Terra has long since closed, and unless by express invitation, it was very difficult to immigrate over.

“If we have an opportunity before you all leave, I’ll treat you all to drinks.” Wang Xuan smiled.

The four were getting ready to leave, but Zhou Kun suddenly staggered. He knows that Wang Xuan was poking fun at him.

He was an introvert and talked very little, but if he ever got drunk he would start letting go of his inhibitions and could just keep talking.

Three years ago, it was Wang Xuan and Qin Cheng who challenged him to a drinking contest, and he was so drunk that night he doesn’t remember anything.

Wang Xuan watched them as they departed.

In the next few days, many of his schoolfellows would be leaving and returning to their homes for the last visit.

The distance between the two regions of space was a suitable comparison to the amount of sadness of friends and lovers who are separated.

The couple who said their goodbyes silently before crying after the train left was touching. Their relationship was very strong, yet their ending was so tragic.

In this late autumn, those who are unable to head to Nova Terra are no doubt the rejects of the future.

Though the news coming from Nova Terra was very unclear, many could already sense that not being able to head over there was likely the largest regret of their lives.

The consoling thought for those who missed the opportunity is that they don’t have to worry about employment, as they were promised when they entered the experimental program.

Wang Xuan had not left, as his home was in a neighboring town. Even if he was unable to head to Nova Terra, he would be staying in the same city as his college for work.

Qin Cheng disappeared for the past few days. He was from the current city and was currently investigating for confirmed news.

His family business was related to deep space trading and had some connections over there.

In the morning a few days later, Qin Cheng returned to campus.

“Wang Xuan, I finally understood why they created the Old Techniques Experimental Class, it’s related to a special discovery made in Nova Terra!”

Qin Cheng ran over with his face red, but he wasn’t puffing or sweating. It was solely caused by excitement.

His family found out from their connections that some mysterious events that happened in Nova Terra were suspected to be related to supernatural powers!

“There might actually be supernatural powers in this world!” He yelled.

How could this not excite people and stimulate their imaginations?!

Qin Cheng has always been an emotional man, but despite his excitement, when he noticed what Wang Xuan was up to he was shocked.

“You’ve managed to create such a dramatic effect with your training?!”

Even though he knew that Wang Xuan successfully began absorbing qi, when he saw the sight before him he was still very astounded.

Once again, Wang Xuan was glowing under the morning sun. The dancing lights on his body have become stronger, like layers of glowing fire spreading all over him.

Wang Xuan stopped his training again, looking even better than he did a few days ago.

“One sec.”

As he was cultivating himself with qi and cleaning his body of that “filthy mist”, his body was all sticky and gross so he went to take a quick cold shower.

Once Wang Xuan came back out in clean clothes, he responded, “I had some impressions of this a long time ago. Those powerful elders were bound to believe in the occult once they were older, and put this belief into practice by coming over to the Old Earth to dig for legends and invest in Old Techniques research. They must have discovered something in the past.”

Though those tycoons have aged, they are all intelligent people. There is no possibility that they would make such a crazy judgment without some evidence and support.

In addition, some of their classmates had some impressive backgrounds but still came all the way from Nova Terra to join the research project. That was additional proof.

“Early on, they must have attempted to attain supernatural powers through Old Techniques.” Wang Xuan stated, then furrowed his brows. “However, it seems like the situation has changed.”

His intuition has always been sharp, and from his meeting with Xu Wenbo, Su Chan, Zhou Kun, and Li Qingzhu, he was able to guess from their speech and actions parts of the truth.

They stated that Old Techniques were now outdated… Nova Terra was no longer interested in them!

Furthermore, when Xu Wenbo looked off into the distance at the time, his eyes were glowing with excitement and anticipation, as if he was greatly desiring something.

“Supernatural power… there must have been another path, and the Old Techniques have been abandoned.” That was the conclusion that Wang Xuan obtained after observing his friends earlier.
