When a leader lost their power, the followers would disperse. Moreover, most of Markoff’s lackey had turned into bare rubber skins, and only a few remaining were still alive.
To avoid doubts, the Wujin Iron Army fired another wave of arrows at the opposite bank. After confirming there wasn’t any further movement, Dan and the others changed back to the beast forms and flew over. They circled overhead for a while and looked for a place to land.
“Damn! It’s all f**king filled with sands. There isn’t any place to land!” Dan, a burly two-meter-tall man, roared and complained bitterly while tiptoeing and pinching his nose. After hesitating for a long time, he finally started to search around and repeatedly muttered. “Markoff…..Markoff…..Markoff…..Where is this little beast’s body?”
“Shh –” Dan suddenly lifted his feet with a slight doubt., crouched down his burly body, and lowered his head to look into it for a while. Then, he picked up an arrow with disdain and spoke. “Yuck! That’s disgusting! That little beast happened to fall into the sands. His head and shoulder are gone, but the rest is still there. No wonder it’s so difficult to find! You – I found the arrow you shot.”
After finishing, he changed back his form into a huge falcon and glided across the river surface, landing in front of Kevin.
“Something white is stuck to this.” Dan lowered his head and handed the long arrow to Kevin, pointing at the thing stuck on the arrowhead.
Actually, it looked slightly disgusting – except for the bloodstains and flesh scraps, the arrowhead was stuck with a fingernail-sized white semi-transparent thing that trembled under the blowing wind.
Kevin leaned in for a couple of sniffs. He then directly removed the thing from the arrowhead and gently twirled it in his fingers.
Oswald, who was tidying up the surviving Wujin Iron Army a few paces away, turned around and saw Kevin’s thoughtful look. He lifted his feet and walked over.
“What’s the situation?” He leaned closer to look at Kevin’s fingertips and asked. “What is this thing?”
Kevin let out an “oh” and gave a sparse explanation. “It’s from the arrow that shot Markoff. If I didn’t guess it wrong, this must be a worm skin.”
“…..” Oswald picked his ears. “Worm, what the hell?
Kevin glanced at him and moved his fingertips up to his eyes. “Worm skin. Do you know that soft-bodied worm? The white and fat worm that moves with a shrug and has thin skin and ample filling. If you look carefully, you can even see the segment on this skin.”
Oswald: “…..”
For a split second, he simply wanted to slam the heavy shield in his hand into Kevin’s face.
“This should be the mother insect left in the bottle. I reckoned that it could be used to control those released flying insects.” Kevin swatted away the worm skin from his hand and became blank as he raised his head. “Why does your face look so green, Your Majesty?”
Oswald knitted his brows, took a step back, and coldly answered. “Get your filthy hands farther away!”
“Oh, right. I almost forgot that you’re afraid of these soft bugs.” Kevin laughed like an asshole.
Oswald: “…..” Did he owe an explanation to him?
Of course, he wouldn’t really be afraid of a mere tiny squashy bug. He only felt it was disgusting……
However, he would appear not very calm if he tried to explain too much, especially in front of Kevin.
Even though he was now in his early twenties and was in charge of the Jinshi Empire, he always felt this Kevin – bastard – Fassbinder Excellency seemed to take him as a child.
Even if he was now very tall and robust – with fighting, riding, and shooting skills not less than those military generals – and had a high position, he could never completely break free from the shadow of his former self in Kevin’s presence. He minded this feeling very much as if he had spent the last ten years in vain.
To appear a little more mature, Oswald held back the strings of sarcastic comments in his throat and indifferently replied. “F**k you!”
Kevin silently rubbed his fingers and felt that his fingertips were still slightly sticky. Thus, he raised his hand and patted Oswald’s shoulder, sincerely saying, “Don’t be so violent at such young age.” He seized the opportunity to wipe his hand.
After finishing, he turned around and walked away.
Oswald was stunned for a while before he finally reacted. After that, he suddenly flew into a rage. “Fassbinder, don’t you want to live anymore?”
Kevin already waved his hand and walked off without a second thought.
He walked past the rearranged Wujin Iron Army formation to the other side of the river bank. Seven or eight tall and strong Giant Beastman gathered together and silently filled in the ground.
The Giant Beastman was actually a very reclusive clan. They were born with a superior build, causing it difficult for them to mix with other clans. Thus, there were many important occasions where people from different clans couldn’t randomly participate, such as a funeral.
Kevin stood at the edge of the Wujin Iron Army and watched from far away as the Giant Beastman buried the pile of sands that were Mac in the damp soil. They firmly closed the damp soil while avoiding the sand grains.
A man as tall as the mountain died with a handful of remains and occupied less than a square inch of ground.
Their funeral was as simple and direct as their nature and even could be considered shabby.
However, there was some indescribably heavy and sad feeling from watching a group of strong men crouching on the ground while carefully and awkwardly patting the soil.
After they finished reciting the memorial speech in a deep beast language and stood up, Kevin approached several steps.
Shaw held on to Ben’s shoulder and lowered his head to say something to him; the content of the speech vaguely entered Kevin’s ear. “Are you really not going back to the valley? You can totally go back with me. My Ann and Joe are about your age, and you even met them when you were little. I guarantee that you guys will become best friends quickly.”
Ben kept his head down. His messy hair blocked his eyes, but he should still be choking with sobs from his sniffling nose.
Shaw also didn’t urge him. He only gently patted his shoulder and silently comforted him.
After a while, Ben finally could stop his sobs. He used the back of his dirty hands to rub his eyes and raised his head, saying to Shaw, “Thank you. I…..I’ve thought about it. I’m not returning to the valley.”
“Then, where are you going?” Shaw asked. “Where will you go if you don’t return to the valley? Although the rainy season has arrived, the outside is still very dangerous.”
Kevin coughed to signal his presence before lifting his feet and walking over. He patted Ben’s messy head of a bird’s nest and said, “Do you want to follow me for two years?”
Shaw raised his head. “But –”
Kevin replied, “I don’t have any other intentions. This is only a suggestion; take it as an alternative.” He turned his head and said at Ben. “You’re too young for now and don’t have many muscles on your body. You can learn some dexterity skills first. It will be more suitable for you to learn the strength skills after your body gets stronger.”
Shaw swallowed his objection because what Kevin said had a point – Ben’s physique was more petite even for a Giant Beastman of his age; it was unknown if it was because of malnutrition or other reasons.
Ben stared at Kevin for a moment before nodding his head.
Only two people could give him a mountain-like feeling in his seven or eight years of life. One was his father, Mac, and the other was Kevin. Of course, the latter was in a completely different category from the former. Toward Mac, he felt a natural admiration and fondness. Whereas toward Kevin, it was more about the frustration of being walked around like a dog.
People would always not want to admit defeat, especially the natural-born warrior Giant Beastman.
After following Kevin for two years, maybe he could be the one who bullied others. He wanted to give it a try.
All the trivial tasks were almost dealt with, and the Wujin Iron Army had already gotten ready to leave. The Giant Beastman and Spirit Clan went in a different direction than the Jinshi Empire. Thus, they had to part ways.
The Spirit Clan lived on an island in the southern end, and they had the longest journey. Their clan had always been aloof and quiet. They put on the hood on their shrouds, nodded at Oswald and the others, and wordlessly went on their way, disappearing like ghosts after turning a couple of times behind the trees.
Those burly men from the Giant Beastman Clan also changed into their beast forms in succession and rushed away in a flurry.
The only ones left freely at the river bank away from the armored troops were Kevin, the little lion, Ben…..and a teenager covered in shrouds from the Spirit Clan.
“Why didn’t you follow them to go?” Kevin pointed to the dark forest.
The teenager had initially been staring blankly at the Carat River. He looked up blankly at Kevin’s question; there was some indescribable emptiness in his expression. He hesitated for a while and answered. “I’m not from the Spirit Clan.”
The corner of Kevin’s mouth twitched. “Then, why are you dressing like that?” So particularly good-looking…..
The teenager whispered. “I’m only…..only trying to infiltrate.”
“Infiltrate to where?” Kevin didn’t understand.
“The imperial palace in the Fei Ling City.” The teenager answered.
Kevin: “…..In the end, you infiltrated the prison. It’s not bad; at least it’s not very far.”
The teenager: “…..”
It was easy to feel guilty for being an asshole toward this troubled teenager that made mistakes, so Kevin coughed and changed the topic. “Why do you want to infiltrate the imperial palace?”
The teenager pursed his lips and meekly replied in a low voice. “To kill Markoff.”
Kevin: “……”
He looked like a little white rabbit but unexpectedly had such a big ambition.
But if he said that, this teenager would probably turn red from head to toe. Kevin pondered about it and changed his speech. “It’s considered done then. Markoff was dead.”
Ben incredulously looked at Kevin with a “who the f**k are you” expression. He was shocked that this asshole had said something human without a thorn. He turned his head and couldn’t help to ask the teenager. “Why?”
The teenager lowered his head and blankly stared at the ground. After a while, he finally whispered. “Markoff kidnapped my mother. He also killed my father and grandmother.”
Hearing this sentence, Kevin felt slightly familiar and tentatively asked, “You’re from the Beifeicu Empire? Which town?”
The teenager answered, “Farran Town.”
Sure enough. Kevin said in his heart: This was the legacy of Markoff’s beastly actions. At that time, there was indeed one oldest woman who already had a three-or-four-years-old child among the captured women in Farran Town. If the child were still alive, they would indeed be fifteen or sixteen years old already.
“When Markoff dispatched people to burn our house during that time, I didn’t die and was saved by a beggar. After that, I followed him to wander all around. He passed away in the winter of last year, and I was alone again. Since I wouldn’t live on longer anymore, I thought that I might as well try to take revenge.”
Kevin let out an “oh” and nodded. “Now that your revenge is done, won’t you go back?”
“I can’t go back anymore. Markoff had previously realized that there were people involved then who didn’t die yet and had searched for me half a year.” The teenager replied. “I still need to avoid people if I go back.”
“What are you going to do, then?” Ben asked.
The teenager blankly and lonely stood there for a while before raising his head to look at Kevin.
“I…..Can I follow you guys to the Jinshi Empire? I will only follow along as I didn’t know the way. I will leave after we enter the city.”
Kevin: “…..”
After a short period, Oswald frowned. “Do you have a special hobby, Your Excellency Fassbinder? You had collected two little demons after not seeing you for a while. Didn’t the lord from those two clans turn on you?”
Kevin forced out a smile and patted Ben’s shoulder. “Seeing as this boy looked like our national mascot, I will bring him along with me for two years.”
After finishing, he patted the white rabbit teenager dressed in shrouds. “Seeing as he didn’t know the way like me, I will bring him to enter the city.”
Oswald: “…..”
He repeatedly swept his gaze at the two underage little demons and coldly tossed a comment at Kevin. “Have you grown a bit conscience after not meeting for many years?”
Kevin clicked his tongue. “…..Can you speak nicely?”
A few minutes later, the Wujin Iron Army grandiosely set off with Oswald as the leader. Mio and two deputy commanders followed closely behind. Each deputy commander brought along a brat in their hippogriffs; it was Ben and that white rabbit teenager.
Meanwhile, the battle flags of the Wujin Iron Army and the Jinshi Empire were erected at the end of the formation. The battle flags were constructed on a black gold seat with wheels beneath it, and it was pulled steadily by two hippogriffs.
Kevin didn’t want to live on anymore. His Excellency Fassbinder paid the price of his uncontrollable mouth and cheap hands. His hands and feet were tied on the two side-by-side battle flag poles, fluttering in the wind as the hippogriffs galloped as fast as lightning.
Kevin being tied as a flag is priceless ᵵ (ૢ˃ꌂ˂⁎)Շ^
