King Corvus had a complete change in attitude towards Raven after being given the chance of some assistance from the Poison Expert Naver. It turned out that his next magic surge was likely to happen in the next year or so, and he was really eager to figure out a solution before that.

It wasn't that he became overly affectionate or anything – but his attitude towards Raven became the same as what he displayed towards Rook, who had always been King Corvus's favourite. Rook really adored his Grandfather, and he also adored his Big Brother Raven now, and he was quite pleased that the two were getting along well now. Seeing King Corvus treat Raven well, the last of the resistance Enca had towards her Big Brother Raven was also turned into dust, and she, too, started following him around – not as much as Rook, but perhaps about half. She often dragged her twin Dawe with her, much to the latter's reluctance. But then, Dawe was clever enough not to show his displeasure in front of King Corvus and Crown Princess Pica again.

Rook and Enca were taken in by Dawe's deception, but Mana and Raven were very clear about the boy's malicious intentions. He often tried to subtly sow discord between Mana, Raven, Rook and Enca – but it wasn't for nothing that Mana was regarded as a goddess of negotiation tables back in her original world. No matter how smart, could a little boy of seven befool her?

Besides, there was Azar, too, and by now, Mana and Raven were fully convinced that their little dragon could see through people's mala fide thoughts – at least when it concerned Azar's own family.

"Little Azar, little Azar, call me Uncle Rook again!" Rook cried excitedly the first time Azar called him "Uncle Rook".

The little dragon, nestled comfortably in Raven's arms, cast a lazy glance at Rook. "Uncle Rook," he said obediently.

One could see the "aww" blooming over Rook's head. He jumped in delight and clapped his hands. "Did you see that, Big Brother? Your little Azar recognised me as his uncle! Good boy, Azar, what do you want? This Uncle Rook will get it for you!" he cried excitedly.

"Chocolate milkshake," Azar demanded immediately.

Raven chuckled and poked the little dragon's head. "You just had one an hour ago," he pointed out. "Uncle Rook will get you one later in the evening, all right?"

Azar pouted. "Want one now, Daddy," he said.

"Can't we let him have one now?" Rook begged Raven, his eyes sparkling with hope. This was the first time little Azar had asked him for something – how pathetic would it be if he couldn't even get him something as simple as a milkshake? And the milkshakes in the Emerald Kingdom really were delicious.

By now, Mana had marketed the milkshakes already – and quite naturally, they had become something of a "national drink" and the citizens of the Emerald Kingdom had been showing it off to the visitors. Most of the visitors, especially the younger ones, had totally fallen in love with the beverage.

Gold was flowing into Mana's coffers like never before!

Raven couldn't resist the double attack of Azar's big, hopeful eyes and Rook's liquid, sparkling eyes directed at him. He sighed. "All right," he said. "You can have one now, but I'll adjust your mid-morning snack later. I don't want you getting indigestion."

Azar huffed, just like Mana often did. "Azar won't get indigestion," he said firmly. "Elf buddy gave Azar a ring for digestion."

Raven looked to Mana for confirmation. She nodded. There indeed had been a ring for Azar to help him digest – the note even said that he could eat people he didn't like without getting indigestion – when Mana and Azar had gone to get the magic potion for Raven. With all the drama later, she had completely forgotten to tell Raven about it.

Azar shook his claws and a ring appeared on one of his fingers. "Azar always wears it," he told Raven.

Raven picked up Azar's paw and examined the ring. It was a powerful magical artefact – just like most things Azar's Elf Buddy gave them – and it did seem beneficial for Azar.

Raven shook his head fondly and rubbed his dragon child's head. "All right, then, you can have your milkshake," he said.

"Thank you, Daddy!"

"Thank you, Big Brother!"

Two simultaneous happy cried rang out.

Raven smiled, his rainbow eyes soft and warm.

Mana stood up and took Rook's hand. "Come, I'll teach you how to make milkshake yourself," she said.

Rook's eyes became as wide as saucers. "Really? Sister Mana, do you really mean that? Isn't it a secret recipe of the Emerald Kingdom?" he asked in shock.

Mana laughed. "Well, you're family now, aren't you? And Azar likes you – that's enough for me to deem you trustworthy," she said.

"But…but what if I spread your recipe in the Obsidian Kingdom?" Rook asked. "If I know how to make it, I won't be able to resist making it for myself…and maybe other people, too…"

"Don't worry about that," Mana said, patting his shoulder. "Raven and I actually wanted to discuss that with you. You do know that we're planning to launch pastry shops in the Obsidian Kingdom, right?"

"What pastry shops?" Rook asked with wide eyes. His voice fell to a whisper. "You mean…like the ones in the Emerald Kingdom…?"

Mana laughed. "Did you try the pastries from Marvel Pastry Shops?" she asked.

Rook nodded eagerly. "They're the best! Their milkshakes are the best, too!" he cried.

"It's ours. Well, most of it belongs to Raven and me, but my Papa and your Mother also have some shares in it," Mana told him. "And we're planning to open branches in the Obsidian Kingdom…"

Rook's jaw fell to the floor.

"….And we were wondering if you would help us with it," Raven said, resisting the urge to laugh. "We want someone trustworthy in the Obsidian Kingdom to run it for us."

Rook stared at them blankly for a while, and then his eyes filled with tears. "Big Brother…Sister Mana…you'd trust me that much?" he asked emotionally.

"Well, why not?" Raven asked nonchalantly. "We believe in you, especially now that Azar has acknowledged you."

"But this offer is for you only, not for Dawe and Enca," Mana said firmly.

Rook blinked. Then he asked very slowly, "Does…does Azar have the ability to gauge people's hearts?"

Mana and Raven exchanged a look, and then nodded.

Rook froze. "Dawe and Enca…they want to harm you?" he asked quietly.

This was the first time they had seen Rook so serious. Mana had considered him more or less an airhead – but at this moment, she realised that Rook, too, was an extraordinary child. Not comparable to Raven, naturally, but far above his peers, for sure.

Raven sighed. Mana patted his arm comfortingly.

"We don't think Enca wants to harm us, really," she told Rook. "It's just that she's rather suggestible."

"And Dawe?" Rook asked, his eyes serious.

"Bad guy," Azar said before Mana could respond. "Bad, bad guy."

Rook was silent for a long time.. It was clear from his face that he was thinking things over in his mind.
