"That's a lovely dress," Queen Carolina said, her own eyes wide with shock and admiration. "I can only imagine how beautiful Bella will look in it! Well done, son, for finding such an amazing dress for my little girl!" She patted Jules's shoulder affectionately.
"Uncle Jules didn't find it!" Azar huffed. The little dragon puffed out his chest proudly. "Uncle Jules made the dress himself! Uncle Jules made the dress with his own hands and his own magic!"
"The imperial tailors and seamstresses of the Emerald Kingdom were quite amused that their beloved Crown Prince Jules was so interested in tailoring and embroidery, actually," King Jaren said, a deep rumble of low, quiet laughter emanating from him. "We all knew that Jules was working on it, but he didn't show the final product to any of us – I guess he wanted our pretty Bella to see it first! Understandable, of course!"
"Big Brother has been collecting material for this pair of outfits for quite some time," Raven said. "Even the shoes and jewellery, he made them all with his own hands for you, Big Sister Bella!"
Bella was overwhelmed. She placed the gorgeous dress back on the bed and threw her arms around Jules in a tight hug. "Thank you," she whispered in his ear. "Thank you, Jules. I must be the most fortunate girl in the world to have won your heart."
With a happy smile, Jules hugged her back. "I'm the fortunate one," he murmured. "So…you like it, right? You don't think it's too shiny?"
Now, unfortunately for Jules, Azar's hearing was much better than the humans around him. The little dragon straightened up on his Grandpapa's shoulder and declared, "Shiny is good! Shiny is pretty, pretty, pretty!"
Clearly, the little dragon believed that important things must be repeated thrice!
"Yes, little one," Bella replied with a laugh, letting go of Jules. "Shiny is pretty, indeed, in this case." She turned back to Jules. "This is the most beautiful dress I have ever seen in my life," she said with a smile. "I love it almost as much as I love you, and I will cherish this dress for the rest of my life."
Jules grinned happily in response. With a rakish wink, he said, "You just need to cherish me, and I'll make you a dress like this every year!"
Bella laughed merrily and hugged him again.
Seeing the two of them so happy, everyone else laughed as well.
"All right, now let's start getting ready for the banquet in the evening," Queen Carolina said.
"Big Sister Bella can use my room for the time being," Mana said. "I don't like the idea of her being here by herself – we don't know who else may have their eye on her room!"
"Good point," Jules said immediately. "Thanks, Mana." He looked at Bella. "You don't mind, do you?" he asked gently.
Bella shook her head. "Of course not," she said. "I don't want any further unpleasantness for today, either," she murmured quietly. She turned to Mana and ruffled the younger girl's hair. "Thank, little sis!"
Mana grinned at her. "Big Sister Bella, I have an additional benefit here - I also get to see you looking prettier than everyone else in the world – and I get to see it before Big Brother Jules!" she teased.
Jules stuck out his tongue at Mana. "Well, I'm going to grab your Raven and hang on to him until you release my Bella from your clutches, sister mine," he retorted. "And I won't let you see Raven all dressed up and looking beautiful until you let me see Bella!"
Mana, too, stuck out her tongue at Jules.
Bella and Raven flushed. Then Bella turned around and quickly started gathering all the presents Jules had gotten for her into the magical pouch.
"Let's go to Mana's room and sort out our clothes properly," Bella suggested.
"All right, then, off you go," Queen Carolina said, shooing away the children.
"I'll fetch mine from my room and join you," Raven said quickly.
Mana shot Raven an enquiring glance and he shook his head slightly, unnoticed by anyone else. Mana sighed, patted her fiancé on his arm and dragged her Big Brother Jules and his fiancée Big Sister Bella out, leading them to her own imperial guest room.
Queen Carolina and King Jaren looked at Raven.
"Do you have a few moments to talk?" Raven asked quietly.
King Jaren sighed and ruffled the boy's hair with gentle fingers. "There's more to this cursed living ghost corpse business, isn't it?" he asked tiredly.
Raven nodded, his little face grave. "The rainbow net will only hold him for three days. To be safe, we should try to seal him immediately," he said. "I don't know how to seal a cursed living ghost corpse. Until we can figure it out, I can reinforce the magical net every two days. It is a draining process, and I don't want to involve Mana in it too much," he explained.
King Jaren raised an eyebrow. "That is something you will have speak to Mana about, my dear boy. If it is draining, I don't want either of you doing it – but if there is no other way, then I'd rather that both of you divide the task. Can we do anything to supplement your magic, son?" he asked.
Raven tapped his chin thoughtfully. "Papa, you and Big Brother Jules could help supplement Mana's earth and fire elements," he murmured.
"And what about you? Can't Crown Princess Pica and Head Sage Yue supplement your water magic and dark magic elements?" King Jaren asked.
Raven hung his head. "They won't want to," he said in a small voice. "And even if they do – we shouldn't reveal the internal affairs of the Sapphire Kingdom to others – especially when it is such a sensitive matter and involves Big Sister Bella…"
"I won't let any of my children take a risk simply to protect a dirty secret of mine," Queen Carolina said. "And Prince Raven, you are already a member of my family now. I won't let either you or Mana take a risk like this."
Raven flushed. "Thank you," he said in a small voice. "But I…"
There was a flash and Shadow Nineteen appeared – seemingly out of thin air. He bowed to Queen Carolina.
"Answering to Her Majesty the Queen, King Corvus of the Obsidian Kingdom, Crown Princess Pica of the Obsidian Kingdom and General Aquila of the Obsidian Kingdom, as well as Head Sage Yue of the Pearl Kingdom – the four of them are waiting outside the room and wish to speak with you," Shadow Nineteen said.
Queen Carolina raised an eyebrow and exchanged a glance with King Jaren. When King Jaren nodded, Queen Carolina turned back to Shadow Nineteen and said, "Let them in, please."
"Answering to Her Majesty the Queen, King Corvus of the Obsidian Kingdom, Crown Princess Pica of the Obsidian Kingdom and General Aquila of the Obsidian Kingdom, as well as Head Sage Yue of the Pearl Kingdom, will be shown into this room shortly," Shadow Nineteen said, bowed again in assent and disappeared.
A moment later, King Corvus, Crown Princess Pica, General Aquila and Head Sage Yue were led into the room by Shadow Nineteen himself. He bowed again to Queen Carolina and disappeared.
General Aquila caught sight of Raven and immediately rushed to him and picked him up as if he were a small child, raking his eyes over the boy thoroughly.
"Are you all right, son? Are you hurt anywhere? What happened? Why did your magical energy fluctuate so badly all of a sudden?" General Aquila demanded.
King Jaren, Azar, King Corvus and Crown Princess Pica already knew about the fealty connection between General Aquila and Raven, so they were not too surprised that General Aquila was able to sense Raven's distress and disturbance. In fact, King Jaren was quite pleased about it – because Raven tended to hide his own weaknesses and injuries and pretended to be all right, and he was so good at it that even Mana, who knew him best, was unable to gauge that something was wrong at certain times. But if General Aquila could sense it – and especially given General Aquila's open and genuine affection for Raven and his true regard for Raven as his own eldest son, King Jaren had a parental ally on his side. With General Aquila's cooperation, they could keep a better eye on Raven's welfare, that was for sure!
Head Sage Yue and Queen Carolina were stunned, however, since they had no knowledge of the fealty token of General Aquila or that Raven was already the pre-destined monarch of the Obsidian Kingdom! Especially Head Sage Yue, who felt an unfamiliar feeling rise up in his chest.
"You – Aqi, you are able to sense Raven's magical fluctuation?" Head Sage Yue asked in a strange voice, shock and envy dripping from the tone of his voice. "How is this possible? You are not even connected by blood!"
