When Mana came to, the first thing she saw was an extremely pale faced Raven by her side.
As soon as Raven noticed that Mana had woken up, he asked, "How are you feeling now?" in a very anxious voice.
"Surprisingly normal," Mana replied, quickly taking stock of herself. The headache had disappeared completely as if it had never been there at all. And she felt absolutely no discomfort anywhere at all. In fact, she felt much healthier and better than before, actually.
Seeing the disbelieving look on Raven's face, Mana smiled and held out her hand to him. "Do you want to run a diagnostic check before you let me sit up?" she offered.
Raven nodded silently and took her hand, quickly sending a strand of his own magic through her.
Mana hummed, feeling a comfortable warmth rush into her – if it felt like this, then no wonder Raven looked rather happy whenever Mana took his hand and ran a diagnostic check on him with her own magic, Mana thought idly. It felt like she was soaking in a warm bath with just the perfect temperature – so utterly comfortable that she felt that she would be happy to soak in it for hours on end.
It was very similar to how it felt soaking in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland in the modern world that Mana had lived in for quite a few years. The Blue Lagoon in the country of Iceland had been one of the favourite places of Mana and her family and then all used to go there once a year to relax foe several days. Mana suddenly felt rather nostalgic. The four of them – her parents, her big brother and Mana – how happy they used to be, going for this family vacation every year – and how much they looked forward to it every year – and how refreshed all of them used to be after spending several days at the Blue Lagoon in Iceland and then they would come back to their own place and get back to work with a fresh and relaxed mindset. Of course – this was all before the earth shattering accident that changed Mana's life completely – more like ruined it.
Mana sighed. It had been a long time since she had thought about her family in the modern world and her happy life there before she had been betrayed in the worst way possible – and to her own surprise, Mana found that it didn't hurt her any more as badly as it used to. She was happy with her life here, and she was very grateful for the second chance at life that she had gotten here. While theoretically, Mana knew that it was her life in the modern world that was more of a mirage than her life here which was the original one and the soul splitting magic had been cast by her mother in this world at a great cost to herself, but it was all done to protect Mana from the nefarious schemes of other people who sought to harm her mother Dora and the unborn Mana at the time.
Mana sighed again and shook her head, suddenly wishing that she could have had a chance to meet with her birth mother in this world – the much loved and respected Queen Dora that so many people adored, and who Big Sister Bella considered to be her idol, and whom Papa loved with an aching desperation even now, so many years after her death. Mana had seen painted portraits of the late Queen Dora, of course, and she could see her features in both Big Brother Jules and herself – but that was not the same as knowing a person, was it?
Still, even without her mother here, Mana was quite satisfied with most of the family members she had – she adored her Papa and her Big Brother Jules, and now with the addition of Big Sister Bella, Raven and their little Azar – Mana had absolutely no complaints. Queen Sora was permanently incarcerated – and until something went seriously wrong on that front, there should be no more trouble. And as for the two faced Big Sister Astra – well, she would soon be carted off to the Amber Kingdom and it would take her some time to settle down there. Besides, thanks to the modified love potion brewed by Raven – the situation with Crown Prince Mars and Princess Astra should be under control for a while. King Orion may try something, though – and there was a temporarily imprisoned cursed living ghost corpse just waiting to create trouble for all of them – and this cursed living ghost corpse also happened to be Big Sister Bella's late father, the King Consort Vir of the Sapphire Kingdom, who had been a horrible traitor.
Mana sighed and shook her head yet again, dragging her mind back to the present. She turned to look at Raven, her dear little fiancé who had gained such an important place in her heart and her life now, and she watched his serious and determined face with a fair bit of indulgence, amusement and affection on her part.
Raven ran one diagnostic check, and then frowned and shook his head, clearly not believing that he got the correct results. Then he took a deep breath, as if calming himself down and settling into an appropriate frame of mind to do things calmly and properly, and took Mana's hand again. This time, he was extra careful as he set another strand of magic into Mana to run a diagnostic check yet again.
Mana, naturally, didn't mind. She simply leaned back and enjoyed the warm feeling that seemed to envelop her in a protective embrace.
Raven wasn't satisfied with the second diagnostic spell either. He ran it for the third time.
Mana chuckled. "Is it so hard to believe that I'm really all right?" she asked, mirth pooling in her sparkling green eyes.
Raven bit his lip. "You were hurt and you fainted and you wouldn't wake up…" he murmured.
Mana sat up and Raven immediately helped her to sit up and placed pillows behind her to support her back.
When Raven began to withdraw, Mana grabbed his arm and pulled him into a hug.
"Don't worry so much, Raven," she whispered in her ear. "You'll ruin your beautiful face if you worry too much."
"I'd gladly ruin my face if it keeps you safe," Raven replied immediately.
Mana was caught between affection and frustration. "Don't say that," she said finally. "You know how much I love your face, don't you? Don't ruin even the tiniest bit of you – not your face, not your body, not your brains, not your power, not your magic, not your talents, not your personality – not your anything!" she said, her voice firm and gentle at the same time. "I like you exactly as you are, and the only thing I want to change is to make you happier and happier as we grow up together!"
Raven fell silent, staring at Mana with an unblinking stare, a complex expression in his ethereal rainbow eyes. Finally, sighed and enveloped Mana in a tight hug, resting his forehead on her shoulder.
"I can only be happy if you are safe and healthy," he murmured in a very soft voice – and if he hadn't been hugging her so tightly, Mana would not have been able to hear him at all.
There was a knock on the door and Raven immediately released Mana.
King Jaren, with Azar on his shoulder, appeared as the door opened.
"How is little Mana?" King Jaren asked as he entered, and then he spotted Mana sitting up and smiling at him. "How are you feeling, my child?" he asked worriedly.
Mana smiled brightly at him. "Better than ever, Papa," she said. "You can ask Raven – he has run his diagnostic spell three times already."
King Jaren looked at Raven enquiringly.
Raven nodded. "She is healthier and more powerful right now than she was in the morning," he murmured. "I don't understand how that happened."
"No wonder Junior Imperial Physician Vale or any of the imperial physicians of the Sapphire Kingdom couldn't find anything wrong with little Mana," King Jaren murmured. "But how in the world did little Mana suddenly get more powerful and healthier?" he asked, his voice laced with confusion.
"Mommy is good after exercise," Azar said. "Mommy has to exercise more like Daddy and Azar every day! Azar is a good boy and Daddy is a good boy, and Mommy also has to be a good girl!"
King Jaren, Raven and Mana stared at the little dragon.
"So – I exercised this morning for an hour, and now I am healthier and more powerful?" Mana murmured, tapping her chin thoughtfully. That didn't appear to be too bad a bargain, if the results were to be so quick and efficient for her!
Raven, on the other hand, was frowning deeply. "Mana will feel a piercing pain and faint every day like this after exercising?" he asked.
Mana laughed. "Even if I faint, I have you to catch me, don't I?" she asked.
