An ominous feeling rose up in Mana's heart and she rushed out of the side room with only one thought in her mind – she had to get to Raven!

Raven's face was as white as a sheet and he swayed unsteadily as he stood up.

"Mana," he murmured. "I – I – am I – is it – is it true?" he stammered, his eyes unfocussed and his voice barely audible. Then he closed his eyes, took a deep breath and gathered himself. Then his eyes snapped open, their colours changed from the usual soft rainbow glow to a deep, liquid black. "Does the book really say that I am going to kill Papa?" he asked.

Mana opened her mouth to speak, but she couldn't, because her mother interrupted her.

"She won't tell you the truth," Queen Dora said, coming up behind Mana – and stalling whatever she was about to say. "But I have read the book, too – and yes, the book very clearly says that you are the one that killed my Jaren."

Tears fell down Raven's fair cheeks.

"Raven, no – that's not correct – wait, let me explain properly –" Mana started speaking in a rush, but Raven wasn't paying attention to her any more.

Raven was staring at King Jaren instead.

"I'm sorry, Papa," he said quietly. "I'm afraid that I won't be able to keep the promise I made to you earlier..."

"Raven – son – I believe in you," King Jaren told him. "There is no need for you to apologise. If you do end up being the one killing me, I am sure there would be a good reason for it. What will be, will be, and there is no need for you to worry about these things."

"Things like prophecies and fate and all – none of these things are ever written in stone," Jules piped up. "Raven – don't be rash and too quick to believe in these things. We all know you, and we know that you wouldn't harm Papa. I know that you love Papa as much as Mana and I do. Let's listen to what Mana has to say, all right?"

Raven shook his head. "Queen Dora is right," he murmured. "Mana wouldn't tell me the truth because she cares about me too much. She will try her best to protect both Papa and me, but if I am the one who is going to harm Papa – then – then I have no right to be here."

Black energy started pooling around Raven.

"No!" Mana cried as the ominous feeling in her heart intensified so much that she felt as if someone was crushing her ribs.

"Daddy, no!" Azar let out a terrified cry and flew towards Raven, only to be repelled by the black energy that was already surrounding Raven. Azar couldn't get close at all!

"Uncle Raven! Stop!" Alya's little voice trembled with fear as she joined Azar.

But the two little dragons couldn't get through at all. They kept trying to fly in, but they kept getting thrown backwards – well, thrown rather gently, because it seemed that the black energy wasn't willing to cause any harm to the two little dragons.

Mana was in so much pain that she could barely stand by now. She clutched her chest painfully, gasping for breath. "Raven, listen to me…" she gasped. "Don't…"

Jules rushed to Mana and supported her, helping her stand – and Mana leaned weakly against her big brother.

"It's not true…" Mana said in a faint whisper, barely able to stand and barely able to speak. "Big Brother – make Raven stop. It – it's not true…"

General Aquila, too, was clutching his chest, but being a battle hardened man, he wasn't doubled over in pain like Mana was.

"Raven – stop this, son," General Aquila said. "Listen to little Mana first…"

Rook looked fearfully at Raven and then at his father and then back at Raven. And then he looked back at General Aquila.

"Father…" he whimpered. "Is this the black energy of destruction?" he asked. "Is that – is that what Big Brother Raven has unleashed…?"

General Aquila nodded briefly.

The black energy of destruction was one of the most powerful dark magic spells of the Obsidian Kingdom, and it was infamous for being a weapon of ultimate destruction! It would obliterate not only a person's life, but also their magic and their soul! It was very, very rarely used – not only because it was so deadly, but also because it was it took an immense amount of power to unleash it!

And now Raven had unleashed this ultimate spell of obliteration against himself!

"Are you out of your mind?!" King Jaren shouted at Raven, shock and horror and anxiety written all over his handsome face. "Stop this right now! You're going to end up killing yourself like this, Raven!"

Raven smiled slightly. "Better me than you, Papa," he said softly. Bright red blood flowed from a corner of his mouth.

"Daddy, stop!" Azar cried, tears dropping from his big, round eyes like pearls.

Seeing Azar cry, Alya burst into tears as well.

Jules and Bella exchanged a worried glance.

Bella nodded at Jules and gathered her own magic. Her entire body glowed with a pale blue light, as if covered in a magical shield.

Bella suddenly rushed forward into the pool of black energy that was surrounding Raven, and thanks to the magical cover she had just created for herself, she was able to get it. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Jules, too, leapt in after his fiancée, carrying his little sister in his arms. Azar and Alya, too, saw an opening and flew in quickly.

General Aquila felt a command flowing from Raven to himself – "Protect Papa," said Raven's voice, resonating in General Aquila's mind.

Without thinking, General Aquila immediately moved to King Jaren's side. He had noticed a long time ago that the two little dragons and the four children – Mana, Raven, Jules and Bella – were extraordinarily protective of their Papa King Jaren, and General Aquila understood quickly that there was some danger lurking in the dark, waiting for a chance to attack the man.

And right now, all four children and their two baby dragons were trying to save Raven from destroying himself – leaving King Jaren unprotected and vulnerable.

And the cause of this was Queen Dora – the one person in the world King Jaren loved the most! If it hadn't been for her, would Raven be in such a situation? It was amply clear that she had done it on purpose! They could hear nothing of the conversation between Queen Dora and little Mana before that – so it was clear that there was a privacy spell which had been cast. And then, suddenly, the most destructive words possible, words that would shred young Raven's fragile heart into ribbons – those were heard loud and clear by everyone in the room! From the shock that was evident on little Mana's face – it was clear that she never intended for Raven to hear these things, and from how desperately she was trying to speak to Raven right now despite the backlash of the pain from the black energy of destruction that Raven had unleashed – there was clearly much more to this whole affair than what met the eye.

It's just that Raven had been given such a terrible shock that he was not in a position to think; his fragile emotions had taken over his mind completely. All he could think of was that he would be the one killing his beloved Papa – and Raven couldn't live with that.

But it was clear to everyone else that something was not right with the whole thing here.

General Aquila was very suspicious, and he hovered protectively around King Jaren. Rook naturally followed his father like a lost little duckling.

Queen Dora stepped up to King Jaren as well. "I'll take you back to our room to rest," she said in a soft voice.

King Jaren narrowed his eyes at his beloved wife. "Why?" he asked.

Queen Dora blinked. "There's nothing we can do here, can we?" she said quietly. "Jaren – I know that you adore Raven as much as Jules or Mana – but I can't stand by and let your would be murderer flourish under our roof like this!"

"I believe in Raven," King Jaren said firmly.

A bitter smile flashed on Queen Dora's beautiful face. "But you don't trust me any more, do you?" she asked in a trembling voice. "Jaren – I am just trying to do what is best for our family!"

"By harming one of my children?!" King Jaren hissed angrily. "By pushing an innocent young boy into the depths of despair? Is this how you protect our family?!"

"Are you doubting me, Jaren?" Queen Dora cried, tears pooling in her eyes.

But this time, King Jaren's face didn't soften. No matter how much he loved Queen Dora, there were certain lines that should not have been crossed.

And harming one of King Jaren's children was the bottom line for him.
