Raven blinked innocently at his livid grandfather.

"Why wouldn't I?" he asked guilelessly. "You made it very clear that you didn't want me, and there wasn't anyone in two kingdoms who wanted me alive. And then I was accidentally found by the royal children of the Emerald Kingdom, and they saved my life and then they welcomed me not only into their home, but also into their hearts. What reason would I possibly have to turn down their affections? Did I ever receive anything other than pain and humiliation in your home? Did anyone ever show a shred of care or concern for me? If it were you, would you choose to stay with a family that hates you and wants you dead, or a family that loves you and treats you with respect?"

Raven's voice rose up towards the end of his speech, and Mana immediately pulled him even closer to herself, soothing him.

Azar, too, turned back into his small dragon shape and cuddled up with his Mommy and Daddy.

Raven gave a mocking smile to King Corvus and Crown Princess Pica. "I didn't even know what a parent was supposed to be like until Papa started treating me as his son," he said. "For the first time in my life, I was able to have the taste of a father's love and care, of a father's pride in my achievements, of a father's concern over my welfare, and a father's anger over my misfortune. Why wouldn't I want to accept that? You threw me away like trash, and Papa, Mana and Jules – they treated me like a treasure and put me in their home and heart. Isn't it a complete no-brainer?" He looked at the little dragon that was snuggling against him and nuzzling his face, and kissed the top of Azar's head. "And then we got our beautiful Azar," he added, his eyes turning back into their soft, opalescent rainbow sheen.

"Azar good boy," the little dragon said happily. Mana and Raven had been trying to figure out where the baby dragon's obsession for being a "good boy" came from – but till now, they'd only drawn a blank. Both the children, however, suspected that there was, perhaps, a long story behind it – and maybe not a very pleasant one for Azar – so they didn't really want to bring it up and upset their baby dragon. Instead, they focussed on loving and nurturing their dragon child.

King Corvus looked at the adorable and harmonious scene of the two children with the dragon and his veins throbbed.

Crown Princess Pica, on the other hand, was even more furious with her own father and herself than anyone else. She had no counter for Raven's words – she had never treated him kindly, and neither had anyone else in the Obsidian Kingdom. After all, he was just a little boy, and what child doesn't crave recognition and affection from their parents? Hadn't she been the same, when she was young, yearning for her father's affection and attention – which she almost never got until she actually achieved something in her teenage years? Hadn't she promised herself back then that if she ever had a child, she wouldn't be like her indifferent father? And yet, she had failed miserably…

"How could you throw away Raven just like that and even ask King Jaren to get him to absorb the Shadow Poison from little Mana? With his incomplete dark magic, he would have definitely died of poisoning!!" Crown Princess Pica yelled at King Corvus.

King Corvus waved away her accusation with a casual gesture of his hand. "He's the fated child – he won't die at least until he's twenty five," he said in a careless voice.

Mana froze. Twenty five was the age at which the Evil Emperor Raven of the Obsidian Kingdom had been killed by King Mars of the Amber Kingdom – in the 'incorrect' version she had read originally. The 'corrected' version hadn't opened up to that section yet.

There was no way Mana was going to let this happen. Twenty five was too young for a flame as bright as Raven to be extinguished.

Raven, too, was taken aback at that remark, and so was everyone else. Mana could see the thunderclouds gathering on the faces of King Jaren, Jules and Bella. As for little Azar, his eyes were already glowing.

Crown Princess Pica, however continued to rant. "Twenty five? What kind of an age is that to die?! How DARE you do this to my son?!"

She turned to face Mana and Raven.

"How can you simply trust people just like that?" she demanded, glaring at Raven. "How do you know that Crown Prince Jules or Princess Mana or King Jaren didn't approach you with ulterior motives? You already know that they wanted you to remove the Shadow Poison from Princess Mana – and even I didn't know that, or I wouldn't have let your grandfather send you anywhere at all! Do you even know how dangerous the Shadow Poison is?! Even if you didn't die immediately, it'll definitely kill you by the time you're twenty five! These nice people of the Emerald Kingdom that you believe in so ardently – they simply used you to their own advantage! No wonder they treat you so well – I always thought it was highly suspicious! It's simply out of guilt for forcing you to an early death to save their own little princess!!" She yelled in a loud voice, and her eyes flashed with a dark fire that started to coalesce in the air around her as well.

Raven's eyes flashed angrily in response, too. "Big Brother Jules and Mana didn't even know for a long time that I was Prince Raven from the Obsidian Kingdom," he spat. "They had already taken me in before the letter from King Corvus arrived. And even then, Papa and Big Brother and Mana never asked me to absorb the Shadow Poison from Mana – in fact, they immediately turned me down when I offered. They keep giving me all the credit for curing Mana even though I didn't have that big a role to play in it – but that's only because the person who did most of the work doesn't want to be in the picture at all."

Both Crown Princess Pica and King Corvus were stunned.

"How did you remove the Shadow Poison from Princess Mana if you didn't absorb it yourself?" King Corvus demanded.

"Someone else came up with the plan," Jules said before Raven could respond. "Raven just told you."

King Corvus blinked. "Was it Poison Expert Naver?" he asked curiously. "I can't think of anyone else who would be able to pull off such a thing!"

Since King Jaren, Jules, Mana and Raven all remained silent at that, King Corvus realised that it was indeed, the truth.

"Contact Poison Expert Naver for me," King Corvus ordered. "I need something from him."

"No," Raven said bluntly.. "Even if I could, I wouldn't contact him for you."
