The things Wirk has surprises the princess

”You also became friends with Kobelco on this island, right?” (Eph)

Eph asked regarding Kobelco. So I told her where we met.

”Right at the beginning, we fought, but afterwards we got to know each other. That encounter led us to what we are now…”

I told her how I found Kobelco at the end of a cave a short distance from here. I also told her that Kobelco came form pieces of discarded equipment that came from a gap in the ceiling.
Sweat dripped down Eph’s forehead. Her eyes were swimming and she was shaking terribly.

”Uh, did I do something wrong?” (Wirk)
”About that, that’s, s-, sorry. The equipment that fell there was probably something I threw away…” (Eph)
 ”What! You did!?”
 ”What!?”
 ”Uni-!”
 ”””””Mogu mogu~!?”””””
 ”Kyupi~!”
 ”Koo~!”
 ”Go-!”
”So it was you who did it, huh.” (Bamboo Princess)

Everyone is surprised. I was also surprised. No, more than wondering about her throwing it away, I’m wondering more about how she properly transported that rather heavy weight.

”It was quite heavy, but what equipment did you use to transport it?”

Thinking about it, they’re dwarves, so maybe they have special equipment for that. I thought as such, and tried asking about it.

”Something like a cart. After that, well, I took it from there.”

A cart… that’s it? Of course, that’s easier than carrying it normally, but still, I don’t think that that’s work that the young-looking Eph can do…

”Just in case, I’ll tell you, but although I look like this, I’m strong. True, I couldn’t match Kobelco, but… but if it comes to a human, I won’t lose!”

Folding her arms, she had a triumphant look. Now that she mentioned it, dwarves are a race with outstanding physical strength. That’s what makes it possible to say that they’re strong blacksmiths. But that’s the impression I have of the men.
I don’t know much about female dwarves either. I’ve never actually seen dwarves, male or female, since there are no more dwarves on the continent.

”Anyways, if the source of that equipment is from what my Papa made, I’m sorry, Kobelco…”
 ”Go-!”

Kobelco waved his hand to indicate that he didn’t mind. However, now it’s clear why Eph thought he seemed nostalgic.

”But why’d you dispose of it in that place?”
”Papa is holed up in his workshop, hammering iron all the time, doing blacksmithing work, and if he doesn’t like what he’s made, he tells me to go throw it away. I thought it was convenient since if I dumped it there, it would go away after a while.”

I see. In reality, it didn’t disappear, instead it just started moving under the influence of mana thickened due to the mana pool, but it seemed like it disappeared, huh.

”There wasn’t just Kobelco, but also other equipment that was moving, so that stuff was also thrown away.” (Wirk)
”How could you just toss it out.” (Bamboo Princess)
”Ugh, now I think I feel guilty about it.” (Eph)

The Bamboo Princess turns her reproachful eyes toward her, and Eph spills words of regret. The person in question also seems to think it was bad, so blaming her so excessively is pitiful.

”Well, but, because of that, I got to meet Kobelco, so it turned out alright in the end. That disposed material was also useful in making Mancrete.”
”Mancrete? That’s like that “magic architect” stuff you said that I’m not familiar with hearing.”

Eph tilted her head, puzzled. Mancrete is a technique passed on by the previous generation, something unique to magic architects. It’s not strange that this child doesn’t know about it. A magic architect is an occupation that doesn’t exist anywhere else.

”I already know that you came to this island, but since when? Just making this fortress and wall means you came quite a long time ago, right? You spoke about magic, but can you use magic that makes you invisible to the surroundings?”

Various questions came from Eph, but nothing came to mind.

”It’s not something I particularly hid, so I didn’t put together any recognition inhibition technique.”

”But I was completely unaware of it…”
”U~m, right. I guess we’ve been on this island for about ten days… but the wall was built in about three days, and the fortress was built in about two.”
”Hah? Wa-, wait, what? You’re saying that this wall and fortress was constructed by you, in merely five days?”
”Yes, but, isn’t that not a big deal compared to the dwarves?”
”It’s a big deal! That isn’t common sense!”

Eph retorted by scolding back in an agitated tone.
 Huh? But…

”Even dwarves can make anything in three days, can’t they? That’s what I thought…” (Wirk)
”That’s obviously just a superstition! I’d like to know where these rumours came from in the first place!”

Apparently, it seems dwarves can’t make whatever in just three days.

”In that case, what can you make in three days?”
”Things like swords or armours. But now they keep saying “failure, failure”, so they haven’t actually made anything in thirty years, let alone three days.”

Th-, thirty years? That’s some excessive patience you’re talking about. Dwarves have longer lifespans so their grasp of time might differ from people, but that’s why three days is normal.

”As for me, I’m curious as to how you built the wall and fortress so quickly.”
”That’s what I was talking about. Normally you make magic heavy machinery and magic tools.”
”No, in the first place, I don’t even know what magic heavy machinery and magic tools are…”

So it’s from there, huh. Then I guess it’ll be faster to just show her.
That’s why I went out to the front of the building and took a look around. Since it’s nighttime, I turned on the light.

 ”Wai-, what the heeeeeeeeell!” (Eph)

 Then she got absurdly surprised.

”Did that surprise you that much?”
”Yes, I’m surprised! What’s this incomprehensible tool! Why does this big thing move by itself!”
”It doesn’t move by itself, I’m kind of operating it.”

I operate the magic excavator by pulling a lever.

”That’s not what I mean… I’m going to ask just in case, but isn’t there a horse or something inside?”
 ”Pfft-”

O-, oops, she hit the mark. A horse inside, I’ve, I’ve never thought of that.

”Wh-, what are you laughing at!”

Eph yelled at me, her face bright-red.

”Sorry, sorry. But I didn’t put in a horse. You can think of it as being powered by magic, just like a magic tool.”

I gave Eph a simple explanation. Well, that’s the general gist of it.

”Right. But that’s outrageous. And this blast furnace is also amazing. We don’t have this at our place.”

Huh? This isn’t a blast furnace?

”No, it’s called a magic reverberatory furnace, but don’t you have a reverberatory furnace?”
”Nope. Papa is using something far different… I know!”

Then Eph had an expression as though she just had an idea.

”Hey guys, come over to my place! Then show these amazing tools to Papa!”

 Eph made such a proposition.
Huh? In other words, to meet the Dwarven King? U-m, some strange talk just came out. I’m certainly interested in the dwarves, but…
