Chapter 34: Chapter 32 – Mission 1 (part one)

Day 33

---Foxx POV---

Foxx went outside and connected to King Arthur and took her time to explain what she knew from Kornelius's story. She made it brief and skipped the unimportant parts. Still it took her 30 minutes to report everything.

"They did all those things behind the enemy lines with a zero support and training? And Ms and Mrs Ryu both got this prototype Exorcist class?" king Arthur

"Correct. As far as I have analyzed the Exorcist's combat potential, it has no actual counterpart in the unified system. It is unique. It is unknown and unproved." Foxx

"What can you deduce from current data" Arthur

"If all information that Kornelius shared is true and based on the history so far I  believe it is groundbreaking discovery" Foxx

"Akira had eliminated a lvl 24 demon at level 1 and then four of the same level  demons while being at a level 3 herself. Without any previous combat training and no proper arcane gear. That feat should be impossible according our current military  doctrine" Arthur

"I am at loss as well. And the tactics! Akira was and is still using methods which will be frowned by any hero academy teachings as underhanded, immoral, and just not-heroic" Foxx

"Yet extremely effective" added Arthur

"Yes, her growth rate is absurd. Both in time period and  attribute parameters" Foxx

"And if we extrapolate her current growth, what will be Ms Ryu look like in lets say one year?" Arthur

"A monster!" Fox

"We will have a monster on our side capable of slaying Elder or even High demons. Deeply undercover, hidden from the demon's eyes and performing strategic moves to ease our approach. There it is, your unknown variable in reality" Arthur

"I.. I agree and actually there are 2 of them as her mother Hina has also got the same class"

"hahaha" Arthur laughed "Granting a hero class to another person with a little to no assistance from a Nexus, and while practically being broke on funds...Mr Kornelius is a genius, one of his kind...." 

"So how we are going to proceed with their treatment? We must not interfere too much or risk influencing the divination chance. So far their activities were on the correct path." Arthur

"I suggest we use the the "reward for performance" tactics. We will monitor the situation and if we find a situation that can be exploited for Sopura future benefits we can issue them a mission with the proper reward of course. We should not spoil them too much and make them work for their SU" Foxx

"Good idea. The hunter/mercenary way, I like that" Arthur

"Of course the kingdom should provide a military and combat tactical assistance.  They are all civilians after all. And of course we should provide assistance to Mr Kornelius as he is the best one to maintain an improve the prototype class on the go." Arthur

"For the start, we will observe how they operate. They have been on the field there and are obviously accustomed to the environment, doing well. We should not interfere until we are sure we won't change the things for the worst"  King Arthur

"And regarding Ms Ryu's request, I think we are very much capable of extracting two VIPs from a hot zone. So I agree on Ms Ryu terms and I will make and sign a system contract with Ms Ryu agreeing on her demands" Arthur

"Understood. I will pass your decision and the contract for signing, your Majesty"

"One last thing. From now on you and Mira will be kingdom's link to The Exorcist team. Your other duties as an intelligence head should be transferred to you depute. I want your full attention to this matter. I believe you have realized how crucial is this situation to the fate of the Kingdom...... Major Foxx"

"I, thank you for the honors" the newly promoted Major replied

"Nothing to be shy of, Major Foxx. You very much have earned your promotion" Arthur

Some time later Kornelius was reading the civil consultant contract that Sopura had offered. It came with a lot of benefits: new laboratory, 5000 monthly salary, free accommodation in King's palace in the Sopura capital, immunity to army conscription, a credit line of 200 000 SU with excellent terms.

All in all it was looking too good to be true. Kornelius signed it without too much thought

Akira looked at the system contract that was signed by The King himself. It was considered a official document and breaching it will lead to serious troubles for the Kingdom. It basically stated that Sopura will agree unconditionally to help extracting 2 VIPs from Earth and on her side she had to complete missions or bounties issued by the Kingdom. The missions were not obligatory and if she believed they are too dangerous or not fitting to her current plans she was allowed to decline. There was a catch thou. The issue was that the kingdom requested a real time monitoring of the missions and her life in general. She had to agree Foxx and Mira to have access to her visual and hearing data using a pet monitor skill. Like having a real time camera inserted in her head linked to Mira and Foxx.

Both women claimed it will be used only for military purposes. All her secrets will be safe and protected under secrecy act issued by King Arthur himself.  

Akira sighed, and signed the system contract. She didn't have too much to hide from them anyway. 

Similar contract was signed by Hina. 

"So the pact was sealed" said Akira 

"what is next?" Hina

"Mr Kornelius will come with us tomorrow to Sopura to his new accommodation and work station" major Foxx

"You and Hina are to  accept the questing module which will issue the Kingdom's missions and track their complement" Foxx

"And monitor us in real time?" Akira

"Well yes I believe we had this covered already?" Major Foxx

"Right..."

"Mr Kornelius if you please?"

[Kornelius has gifted you "Kingdom of Sopura-management and monitoring assets" Module N4ds455ss  do you accept? y/n]

"yes" Akira, Hina

[system upgraded successfully]

[sensory link established with: Claudia Foxx, Mira Leonheart. Kingdom of Sopura credentials confirmed]

"So you say most of the commanders in your army have this "management and monitoring assets?" Akira

"Yes. The commanding officer, usually a major or a general have this module linked with their subordinates in order to monitor the active battlefield and direct the troops more efficiently" Major Foxx

"So how this actually will work for us thou?" Akira

"Here you go, your first mission" Foxx

"Auntie, That was so mean!!!" Mira pouted

"So we should try not to disappoint our princes, right Okasa" Akira snickered

"All right so that is for now. I need to go to the workshop and finish my crafting" Akira

"Oh you are preparing for that hive assault? May I see your current weapons and armor?"

"Sure, use that monitor skill of yours" Akira

.....

"Hmm those are actually mundane? No arcane runes?" Mira

"Well that is all we have an access to at the moment" Akira sighed

"We have to work with what we can and adapt" Akira

"Well the war hammer looks fine, but your shield can be better" Mira pointed

"What d you suggest? Akira

"Well it is now just a plain steel plate. What if you add spikes on its front. It will become both a defense and offense gear" Mira

"Wow That is a brilliant idea, Thank you princes" Akira

"Just call me Mira... All my friends do that" Mira sounded shy

"Of course.. Mira, Fufufu I better get to work now!" Akira put the protection googles and a heavy work duty clothes on.

4 Hours later

"That is a beautiful work Akira" Hina

"Thank you okasa, I think it can deliver serious damage" Akira smiled proudly looking her craft. She even painted it here and there for more aesthetic look.

"Now we need the skills to handle those things"

"Kornelius if you please?

"Kornelius?

"Ah sorry I was packing my stuff for leaving tomorrow to Sopura" Kornelius

"I will get you those skills right away"

"yes" Akira and Hina

"Haha I know shields and hammers now" Akira

"Me too" Hina

Akira took the hammer. It felt different now. She knew instinctively how to handle it, how to swing properly, how to adjust her body for maximum impact. Then she picked the shield. Again the knowledge was there-  how to position it for better interception, the angle and force management, how to do a shield bashing and how to position herself in order to leave others space for attacking from behind.

"We are almost set to go" Akira. 

"Tonight we move to operation "dungeon clear" Akira

The rest of the the day they spent in setting up their gear, loading it to the truck and just relaxing.

Akira was feeling a bit anxious, but not afraid. She was confident of their strengths and preparations. Plus that tactical map reward sounded so tempting.

At 8 PM both Hina and Akira were in their heavy duty leather clothes. Akira checked her map again and said:

"The old military base had an underground tunnel for vehicles leading 5 Kilometers outside into this forest area. We will try to access it and see how the things are going on from that point" Akira

"Lets give some pain to those evil monsters!" Hina's eyes burned with hatred

"Let's move out"

At 10 PM they were driving on an old and obviously not used dirt path into a forest area outside Tokyo. Soon the road ended at a small hill. The truck headlights revealed a concrete sealed part of a tunnel. 

"Now come the hard working part. Akira took her hammer and a plasma cutter and left"

Akira lifted the 150 kg hammer up with her two hands and bolted forward running with the speed of a jaguar. Once she neared the wall she swing the hammer and hit with a tremendous force.

BANG

The hammer sank into the concrete. A crack started to form around the impact area.

"Not bad" Smiled Akira and repeated the move several more times until the cracks were so large that the 10 cm thick wall started to crumble into large pieces. Some of them were still hold by the metal reinforcing, So Akira picked the plasma torch and began cutting. Next turn with the hammer - Hina repeated the procedure and in 20 minutes a large hole enough for the truck to move in was created. They easily removed the huge concrete debris using their hands and ropes. The path to an old 5 meters wide tunnel was cleared. Soon they were driving inside with a very slow pace. Akira was actually outside walking along the truck and checking for surprises.

The tunnel road was clear. The tunnel itself looked in a relatively good condition considering its age. There were cracks and water leaking here and there, but Akira judged it was safe enough to venture.

They moved like that for some time probably few kilometers once the environment started to change. The familiar green- red biomass faintly illuminating the surroundings. Akira gestured her mother to come out.
