Chapter 1357: The Second Quest(25)
Everything must come to an end, and so was the case with the thrill of flying for the first time.
Since the skill had devoured every bit of Laney's energy, she felt uncomfortable. But the next moment, a wave of comfortable, warm energy flew through her veins, and every pore of her body cheered in excitement.
In only a few seconds, her body, which was hungry for energy, was filled to the brim.
Laney looked at the crystal, but there was still no mention of the second quest.
Since the quest wasn't appearing, it could mean two things. The first was that the required time hadn't arrived, and the second was that Laney hadn't met the condition.
Unaware of what reason was correct since Laney had nothing to do, she decided to check out the enormous fortress in front of her.
Just the pedestal to the fortress was over tens of miles, and at the end of it, a gigantic fountain awaited her.
The fountain had no water to speak of, and when Laney saw the statue at its center, her eyes opened wide in shock.
The statue was familiar to her since it was none other than her. Even she couldn't imagine herself to be as majestic as she looked in the sculpture.
Before the shock could get over, the heptagon crystal in her hand began to glow and burn.
Laney couldn't help but groan in pain and stare at her hand. The glow was blood red, and what was even more surprising was that the crystal was slowly melting.
The longer the melting process went on, the more uncomfortable she felt. When one-fourth of the crystal was left, a charring smell began to emanate from her hand.
Laney gritted her teeth and persisted through the pain, but at one point, it began to feel unbearable.
Even though the charring smell kept growing in intensity, her hand remained normal with only a fixed black spot, which was getting darker and darker.
When only one-tenth of the crystal was left, the process became excruciatingly slow. Even a tiny disappearance took an hour, and the process only became longer and longer.
After thirty hours of excruciating pain, the process finally came to a stop, giving her a moment of reprieve.
Before she could breathe a sigh of relief, she suddenly felt a bump rise on the back of her right hand.
Argh!
Laney couldn't help but cry in pain, but fortunately for her, the pain didn't last for long.
It disappeared as quickly as it had appeared, but the intensity was such that it left a mark on her, making her forget her painful torture for hours.
She immediately focused on the bump and found that it was no longer there. Instead, there was a heptagon pattern imprinted in pitch black.

At the center of the pattern was the fortress design in blood red.
Laney suddenly heard the sound of water running, and as she looked at the fountain, she found that her statue had now changed.
Earlier, she was standing with her eyes looking at the top. It seemed that the she in the statue could directly see the tip of the fortress.
But after the change, the statue had now turned into her looking at the sky with her eyes peering at the fortress' entrance.
It didn't seem as majestic as the one earlier, but she couldn't help but feel more familiar and closer to the second change.
Laney then suddenly had the thought of tapping on the pattern on her hand, and so she did. The next moment, a projection emerged from the pattern, and it kept growing. It only stopped when it had covered the entire range of Laney's sight.
It contained the same details as what the physical crystal did, and the details of the second quest had also appeared.
When Laney read the details, she couldn't help but become surprised. She finally saw the difficulty of completing the trial and became the city head.
The quest also helped her find more details about the Fring and the other thirty-five cities. When she heard about the quest, she thought that the creator had constructed these cities in different locations.
But according to the second quest, all thirty-six cities were neighbors. To find these cities from the ground, the location was different for each city, but in the air, all 35 cities were established in an enormous circle.
There were four circles, with one city at the center of them. The first circle contained three cities, the second circle five, the third nine, and the fourth ring consisted of the remaining 18 cities.
The city at the center was the strongest and had the toughest trials. It was also the only city where the city heads of the other 35 metropolises could compete to become the rulers of that one. Fring City was in the fourth circle and way weaker than the cities in the inner circles.
The city that was closest to Fring was Gring City, which was three hundred thousand miles away and blocked by a forest full of beasts and one powerful enemy tribe. The second quest wanted Laney to create a channel between Fring and Gring for trade.
Gring City also had no city head, so there would be no help from their side in the mission, and Laney needed to complete everything on her own.
At the same time, Laney had a limited time of one year to complete the quest. Laney could only imagine the difficulty of the quests if the second had such a high level of difficulty.
Unless she completed the seventh mission, she wasn't even eligible to become a resident of the city. Laney couldn't help but want to meet the previous participant, who had completed seven quests.
Laney didn't want to miss anything, so she stopped her mind from wandering and focused on the projection. After Laney had read every word in the quest screen, a new page opened up in the projection. It contained the basic layout of the forest, providing some information to Laney.
