Chapter 18: New Year, New Goals

The new office in the heart of LA is from Carloco that really has too many offices under its name. It's a complete building with a mini-studio and there are even cars and buses in the company's assets list.

This finally pulled Sunny's Vision pictures from an empty shell to a real production company. A mini-major studio that is ready to move ahead.

January 1, 1992.

Sunny woke up in the new home that he recently bought. It's a small apartment in Century City, LA which is the home of Fox Studios. Century City is one of the developed cities with dominant white people and is considered safe.

Sunny chose this city because of its close location to his new studio. The new vision studio or office is barely 1KM from his place and it saves a lot of travelling time.

Today, he was very energetic in the morning. After the regular gym and shower, he dressed in a proper suit and drove to his office.

A lot of old employees and new employees from different production houses will enter the office today and there is a new year party at night. He just wanted to come first and inspect the area and make sure the arrangements were proper.

Parking his car, he walked out and saw a mini studio filled with people who were setting the place for the party. He called the organiser, Lupert and checked the arrangements with him.

"Increase the number of wine and beer bottles for me Mr Lupert. Even If it is not used today, it can be used in future. Also, make sure the food for kids is completely safe. I don't want to be in papers for poisoning kids tomorrow," Sunny conveyed his thoughts to Mr Lupert who noted down these things and went away to make proper arrangements.

"What a great way to start a year!" Sunny walked around and spoke to himself.

In the evening, surrounded by employees and a few media people, Sunny cut the ribbon for his new studio.

'The Rover Pictures' – a new dazzling name that was written in the front gate and Sunny's new venture.

Sunny decided not to use the name Vision pictures as it hardly reflected his legacy. So Rover Pictures came into existence today.

A thunderous clapping sounded, and Sunny invited everyone inside. The banquet began with a brief speech from sunny and then he opened the wine bottle to announce the beginning of the party.

"It's really nice and seriously incredible for you to open your own studio in less than a year Sunny," Sofia who was walking with Sunny spoke.

"Please, this is nothing compared to your father's studio but with time, I will catch up I think," Sunny clicked the glasses, and both drank and chatted openly.

Sunny is now a founder and CEO of Rover Pictures. However, unlike before now, he had many key people under him.

His COO, Kenneth Kleinberg, who grew from a simple no-name associate to the president and chief operating officer of Weintraub Entertainment Group, an independent motion picture company that went bankrupt last year.

He also has great knowledge and in-depth understanding of many entertainment laws and knows how to run a studio efficiently. It was this guy who bought a lot of workers from his previous company and filled many key positions.

Also, similarly, there is a long list of now, senior executives and executives at various levels. There are no other partners yet as Sunny is basically financing the whole studio personally.

Kenneth personally came and had a chat with Sunny.

"Jerry Bruckheimer had a big fight with Don Simpson and is looking to start his own company. Some say this is just rumour, but I know Don. He is not an easy guy to work with. We need more producers in our company.

What do you think about him?"

Sunny was surprised to hear the name, Jerry Bruckheimer. This is the guy who created so many hits in his last life including the world-famous series of Pirates of the Caribbean film.

"Are you sure, he is looking for a new production house?" Sunny asked in a low voice.

"I can contact him once you approve the request. I think he won't jump the ship but wants to go solo. However, we can sign a long-term contract with him for his future films." Kenneth said.

"Great Idea. Try to poach him. If we fail, make sure we have signed a long contract with him. Our studio can not only provide finance but also distribution to his films and make sure we don't charge much. I want him to feel that we are the best partners in the market."

Sunny thought for a few moments and agreed to make contact with Jerry.

"Great. Nice party. Let's talk tomorrow." Kenneth, this 50-year-old guy, drank his bourbon and then walked away with some young woman.

"I love Hollywood!" Sunny said in his heart looking at the prosperity of the old guy.

A week later, in the office, Kenneth gave him the good news.

"We made the first contact with Jerry after the new year, and he hinted that he wants to operate independently on his future films. He doesn't like the trouble that major studios bring with them on the set."

Kenneth said while handing a cigar to Sunny.

"Great News. Let's be patient with this guy. He had a good run with Don and even if wants to part ways, he will wait before he has more chips. Let's see how long he can stay under pressure before he flies solo," Sunny said and both men smoked the cigar at the same time.

There was a big generation gap between the two people in the company but both of them know how to enjoy the luxuries of life.

In the afternoon, during the company's first meeting with the production unit and screenplay department, Sunny sat on the main chair and there were six people apart from him present in the meeting.

"Sir, with our recent acquisition of many of the Orion Pictures units, we have a lead in purchasing the copyright and start distribution on these films. Please have a look," A middle-aged man handed sunny a long list of movies that Rover movies can take over from Orion as part of their deal.
