Chapter 39: Future IPs

The new year of 1993 promised better days for the majority of people. Sunny awoke to find himself in the arms of two stunning blondes. Alicia was one, and her cousin had just arrived to celebrate 'New Year' with her.

"Well, it was a nice occasion." Sunny laughed as she moved the lovely hands away from her before entering the showers.

The blondes' sleepy eyes opened the moment he locked the doors.

"He's a real monster in bed, Ali!" Marianne said as she struggled to pull herself up.

"I warned you. He is in good shape. Loves to work out, and those muscles aren't just for show." Alicia replied, then jumped out of bed and poured herself some warm water. Her cousin joined her, and she resumed speaking in small whispers and laughing loudly.

"Ladies, good morning. It was a fantastic evening. Will you still be with us later, Merry?" Sunny emerged from the restroom, a towel wrapped around his waist, to find the two girls up and talking.

"For a few days, at least. Ali and I need to make an appointment with this music school. I've been accepted into a local school. Let's see what I can do with my music." Merry stated, and

Sunny noticed Alicia's strange expression as Merry spoke.

"You are welcome to stay for as long as you like. Ali also needs a break, but I expect Ali to return to the office after a week." Sunny spoke while still dressed.

"Aye, Captain!" Alicia responded by pretending to salute him.

Sunny was amused by her antics and left his apartment after receiving kisses from both sisters. Alicia wasn't gay or bi, but she didn't mind sharing her sweets with her cousin or friends.

Sunny discovered something very soon after Christmas.

"What do you think, Kenny?" Sunny had his first meeting with Kenneth in the new year, and the topic of conversation was Marvel.

"To be honest, I believe we are squandering money by betting on this brand. Rather than spending money on this type of operation, we need to produce more and more films." Kenneth spoke after carefully considering Marvel's worth.

"Why? Do you believe Marvel Superheroes have a market?" Sunny inquired, concerned. Sunny had no idea about Marvel's current state, and he had been thinking about the copyrights of future movies and TV shows lately.

The idea of hoarding future IPs had taken root inside him ever since Christmas with Alicia.

"Marvel has no worth except for animated TV shows. You must understand that Ronald Perelman will never sell Marvel. It is his personal cash machine.

Besides, there's Isaac Perlmutter on the board of directors. He is a significant shareholder and also owns a toy factory. They are currently planning to film some animated cartoons for children in order to increase toy sales.

They will not sell Marvel, no matter how bad their condition is. Perlmutter would buy Perelman's shares if he even considered selling Marvel. Otherwise, other shareholders will follow suit.

Don't think Marvel is losing money or having financial difficulties. To raise funds, they can simply sell any comic character. Bottom line: you can't buy Marvel outright until it goes bankrupt.

"Six hundred million!" Sunny was taken aback when he heard the price. If he had 600 million dollars, he would rather invest in Apple or all future software companies than in Marvel! Furthermore, his total net worth is less than $300 million.

"Fuck! I assumed they were going bankrupt or something. Forget about it. Just one thing, Kenneth. We may not be able to purchase Marvel, but could you inquire as to whether they are willing to sell any characters? Simply learn about it. I believe we can make a lot of money off of their intellectual property." Sunny, frustrated, inquired of Kenneth.

"Sure. But what is the point of this? Do you intend to begin production on any Marvel characters? "Are you familiar with their history?" Kenneth tried to figure out what triggered Sunny's sudden interest in a comic book company.

"I'm just trying to think ahead, Kenneth." I believe that these comics, like novels and story books, have a lot of potential.

"That makes perfect sense. You should first contact the legal team. They are the first to hear the whispers in the IP market before anyone else." Kenneth left the office with the golden advice, and Sunny did contact the legal team about intellectual property.

Sunny sent five members of the legal team on an IP selection trip the next hour, instructing them to look for novels, books, and screenplays that were on the market and could be purchased for a low price.

Sunny was aware that his energy was limited, and allowing these guys to fish in the market would also provide a better cover story in the event that people questioned his studio's hoarding of so many good IPs in the future.

While work was brisk in Los Angeles, it was almost non-existent in Silicon Valley. The boys had a wild Christmas and returned to Finland for New Year's. Sunny was inspecting the future upgrades the team was working on while the entire establishment was closed.

They had registered the domain 'www.codex.com,' which serves as their homepage when the Rocket browser is launched. So, launch the rocket browser, and it will now take you to a new improved homepage - CODEX, where you can search for information or browse the listed directories.

There was also local and international news available in separate tabs. This was accomplished through a contract signed with the Associated Press and Reuters. Two of the world's largest news organisations in the United States improved the content on their homepage.

Sunny, on the other hand, read through all of the possible upgrades listed this year and discovered that the boys had no plans to launch a new service. He was dying for an online mail like Gmail or Yahoo mail, or for his search option to become something like Google, but he realised that this team was too young and focused solely on the browser.

He needed new team leaders and people who could attract other talents to come and help them expand their Rover Net.

In addition, considering IPs and website domains, he formed a team to register hundreds of domain names that he may be able to sell for a large sum of money in the future.

Sunny decided to call the only person he knew who could assist him in this situation.
