Lu Jia’er was surprised to see Ian. She walked towards him and asked, “Ian, why are you here?”

A bespectacled and elegant-looking Ian glanced at Jin Xiangdong who stepped out of the elevator. He turned to Lu Jia’er and gently said, “I’m here to pick you up.”

“Pick me up?” Lu Jia’er’s tone was completely different from how she spoke to Jin Xiangdong just now. It was filled with warmth.

“Yeah,” said Ian as he held out his slender hand to Lu Jia’er.

Seeing Ian’s action, it was as if someone had set a fire in Jin Xiangdong’s heart and the flames were slowly getting bigger. He took a step forward and glared at Ian, who appeared out of nowhere.

Ian greeted his gaze with a glint in his eyes. “This gentleman here, I will let you off this time but never overstep the boundary again. If not, we’ll see you in court.

Jin Xiangdong had never liked physical violence, but hearing what Ian said, he had the impulse of punching him.

Even though his portfolio had no issues, he was still the biggest suspect in regards to the ‘altered memory’ of Lu Jia’er. It was just that there was no evidence.

Jin Xiangdong ignored his threat and asked, “How did you know that I brought Jia’er here?”

“Jia’er isn’t a name for you to call.” Rather than replying to his question, Ian corrected the way Jin Xiangdong called Lu Jia’er.

That arrogant tone of his displayed his dominance as her boyfriend.

But it was ineffective against Jin Xiangdong. “I should be the one saying that.”

Their ongoing argument gave Lu Jia’er a headache. She was absolutely speechless against Jin Xiangdong’s behavior. But considering the fact that he was the founder of BUA and that he was the best friend of Su Han’s boyfriend, Jason, she decided to forgive all his sins.

“Mr .Jin, what my boyfriend just said was correct. I will only let you off this one time. The next time it happens, we’ll see you in court.” Lu Jia’er stood by Ian’s side.

Seeing her hand being held by Ian, Jin Xiangdong was already feeling annoyed. Yet her stand was on the same side as Ian.

Lu Jia’er watched Jin Xiangdong’s expression change, but she felt indifferent. She turned to Ian and said, “Ian, let’s go.”

Ian looked at Jin Xiangdong, taunted him with a sly smile full of confidence and left holding Lu Jia’er’s hands.

Lu Jia’er sat in Ian’s car, inadvertently saw the bottle of water between their seats and remembered the scene when she was in Jin Xiangdong’s car. No wonder she was so easily hypnotized by Liu Qiming, Jin Xiangdong had done something to the water.

Was he crazy? He actually drugged her!

“What’s wrong? Jiajia?” Seeing her spaced out, Ian became concerned and asked.

“Nothing’s wrong,” said Lu Jia’er as she regained her composure. She gently smiled to ease his worries.

Ian looked at Lu Jia’er and sighed, “You’re always so daring!”

Lu Jia’er thought of what happened and got curious. “How did you know that I was here?”

Ian waved his phone in his hand and said, “Su Han told me that you were out with Jin Xiangdong, so I tracked your location.”

Lu Jia’er paused and became wary. “Since when did you install a tracker in my phone?”

“Ever since your car accident!” Ian answered truthfully.

“I see,” Lu Jia’er nodded her head slightly, “but let’s remove it.”

Ian looked at Lu Jia’er and said, “You don’t like it.”

“Yeah. I’m aware that you’re worried about me and there’s nothing to hide about my personal schedule. It may be useful between some couples, but to me, it feels like I’m being chained up.

Sensing her reluctance, Ian’s gaze flickered. He then said, “If you don’t like it, I will remove it. But please reduce your contact with dangerous people in the future.”

“Are you being jealous?” Lu Jia’er turned her face and teased him.

“Yes, I’m jealous.” Ian did not deny his feelings.

Lu Jia’er giggled, “It feels good to know that.”

Ian placed his hand on Lu Jia’er’s head, his gaze filled with gentleness. Lu Jia’er met his gaze and blushed.

However, for some reason, the image of Jin Xiangdong’s face flashed across her mind. His face overlapped with Ian’s, their gentle gaze was the same…

Lu Jia’er was startled. She quickly shook her head to sober her mind.

“Jiajia!” Ian looked at her worriedly.

Lu Jia’er recovered immediately, smiled shyly at Ian and said, “I was lost in your gentle gaze.”

Ian smiled charmingly and touched her head again.

After seeing Lu Jia’er being taken away by Ian, Jin Xiangdong aimlessly returned to BUA. He had work to do, so he set his mind to work and when he lifted his head, it was already dark outside.

The lights in his office were bright. Jin Xiangdong rubbed his temples, leaned on his chair and looked out the windows.

Jason knocked on his door, came in and saw him in a dazed. He could not help but ask, “What are you thinking about? You didn’t even hear me knocking on the door.”

Jin Xiangdong then noticed Jason, who was already standing in front of him. He looked at him and asked, “What’s up?”

“It’s time to get off work,” reminded Jason.

Jin Xiangdong looked at the time, it was already 6:20pm. He proceeded to switch off his computer and stood up. “Let’s go.”

“I am only having dinner with you. I have to work overtime later,” said Jason.

Jin Xiangdong took a glance at him and went straight to the door. Jason turned and followed after him. Both of them left the office together.

Inside the lift, Jin Xiangdong was deep in his thoughts. Jason looked at Jin Xiangdong’s reflection in the mirror. Despite being a straight man himself, he felt that everytime Jin Xiangdong was deep in his thoughts, he had this indescribable charisma.

But recently, there was only one thing that could make Jin Xiangdong feel troubled. It was definitely related to Lu Jia’er.

“Are you alright?” asked Jason.

Jin Xiangdong returned to his senses and looked at Jason. “I’m alright.”

Hearing that, the corner of Jason’s lip lifted. “Ace, this is the first time I’ve seen you being lost in thoughts because of a woman.”

Jin Xiangdong kept his composure and ignored the question. The elevator became filled with silence.

The elevator stopped at the second basement carpark. As Jin Xiangdong walked out of the elevator, he suddenly said, “I brought Lu Jia’er to the hypnotist today.”

As expected, for Jin Xiangdong to be lost in his thoughts, it was indeed related to Lu Jia’er. Jason thought for a while, then asked, “Did you discover anything new?”

Jin Xiangdong replied softly, “The hypnotist said that she has not been hypnotized.”

“Was it confirmed?” asked Jason.

Jin Xiangdong told Jason about Liu Qiming’s conclusion. “The hypnotist said that she has a strong mental resilience and she is not easily affected by hypnotism.”

“Was the hypnotist a professional?” As the deputy program manager, Jason constantly sought for improvements for every matter.

During the past two days, Jason had looked through some information regarding hypnotherapy. In China, psychological counselling was not as advanced as compared to Western countries, thus they have higher subconscious defense mechanisms during hypnotism as compared to Westerners, which causes hypnotherapy to be a long-term procedure. Many psychiatrists and hypnotists do not want to spend too much time researching this topic. Also, the psychological counselling scene in China was quite chaotic, even if the psychiatrist had many certificates, their level of standard might not be high.

“He is Professor Fang’s most outstanding student and he has a well-deserved reputation,” said Jin Xiangdong.

Jason said his thoughts as he walked, “If she did not lose her memories nor was she hypnotized, could she be doing it on purpose?”

“No, no matter how good a person’s acting skills are, it is not possible for her to be two completely different people.” Jin Xiangdong disagreed with him.

Jason looked at him. He was really clueless towards this sort of suspense plot.

“Could it be…?” Jin Xiangdong was unsure about the guess that he had just thought of.

“What?” asked Jason.

Jin Xiangdong said the two words, “Memory replacement.”

“Memory replacement?” It was the first time Jason had heard this term. “T-that sounds like a fantasy.”

“Indeed. But I’ve thought of it for a long time, I could only think of this to describe why Jia’er would forget about me.” said Jin Xiangdong.

Jason did not agree with his views and said, “Maybe she was possessed.”

Jin Xiangdong took a glance at Jason and Jason could only smile at him. Jin Xiangdong was an Atheist and a Materialist; he did not believe that gods or ghosts existed.

“Memory replacement. Unless she was…” Jason had a sudden thought.

Jin Xiangdong paused and turned to look at Jason. Their expressions showed that they had the same thought.

Subsequently, Jason was like a bobblehead doll as he quickly denied. “It’s… it’s impossible!”

At that moment, Jin Xiangdong was clearly shocked. To be honest, he did not believe that it could be possible either.
